Quiet Vintage Cabin
We stayed in the house for a week in late July. We picked it for it's A-frame architecture, hoping for a mid-century gem. It totally was. The pics don't do the house justice. It has some nice touches and cool things happening. House was perfect size beds and baths and decks to the outside were all on point. The private beach and wooded view to Big Glen off the back deck was unbeatable. We certainly had some fires burning on beach at sunset. Really enjoyed our stay and would for sure come back if we return to Big Glen.
We loved this home, the beach, and the location!!!
This is a large, well-appointed family home. The master is large with an in suite bathroom, tv, and walk in closet. The mattress is great! All rooms have sliding doors to the deck and lake views. The living/ family room is very large. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need. We enjoyed both the patio and deck, but especially the deck lakeside. The beach is good size with lots of furniture. The shallow water is good for young children. You are only minutes from Glen Arbor. The 70's character has been preserved, so don't expect modern. The Listecki's were great to deal with. Just loved it!
Great cottage in great location
Great cottage! Stayed for a long weekend with the whole family (8 of us). There was plenty of space inside. Everything was clean and in good shape. The beach area is secluded, so you don't see the other cottages, and we never ran into anyone else. The water was shallow for quite a ways out, but it worked out well with the 4 year old playing in the water. No problem with swimmers itch for us (but in my experience - 25+ Glen Lake summers - swimmers itch comes and goes from year to year, just make sure to rinse off after you are out of the water)
Fantastic Vintage A-Frame Cottage
Our family (2 adults, 2 kids) had a wonderful time at this residence. Large, clean, well designed, well equipped home. Large front deck was a nice shaded option if you or the kids got too much sun on the beach. Rear patio was private yet great for gatherings & BBQ'g on the Weber with charcoal. The large 3-sided fireplace warmed up a rainy day & evening. Plenty of firewood supplied by owner. Fire-pit down on the beach was great for evening s'mores or perhaps a cocktail or two. If you enjoy vintage midcentury / 70's architecture, you will not be disappointed. Nice water views from inside cottage, loft or deck. We were aware of the swimmers itch before we arrived & were equipped with swimmers itch lotion however my son & myself did get "the itch" as we spent 7 days playing on the shoreline. I understand if you play in deeper water, off the shoreline, you are less likely to get it. Close to town & very close to La Becasse & Funistrada restaurants. It has a great / large beachfront in which to relax or play. My only regret is that I didn't bring my water shoes or Teva's as the swimming area has a fair amount of random underwater stones in which you have to traverse to get to deep enough water to swim. Other than that, it's an amazing place!
Quiet and peaceful - but be aware of the itch!
House is very peaceful, quiet and in a good location for access to Glen Arbor, Leland, etc. the house and everything in it is from the 70's so you feel as if you've stepped back in time. Plenty of room for our large family with a big deck to relax on after a long day at the beach. 4 floating boats enhanced the lake experience for our kids and the shallow water was perfect for young ages. We loved having the lake access just feet away however be aware this lake has swimmer's itch so after discovering that we were unable to go back into the water and had to use Lake MI beaches nearby instead. Preventative measures can be taken to avoid the itch but since we unaware our poor children suffered. Had we not had that issue with the lake I would have given this review a higher rating - not that it is their fault but I wish we would have known in advance.
Swimmers itch exists in lakes in the Midwest and runs in cycles. It is reported that 30% of the population is allergic to the schistasone. Our guests and neighbors have reported higher than normal reactions this year. Precautions include using oily lotions before swimming, not lingering in shallow water, and vigorously towel drying after swimming. We appreciate this alert as it is unpredictable from year to year.
Renters may easily find rentals for bikes, most water sports as well as marinas.
