I am a teacher, and my husband is in sales. Our passions are for travel, trying new restaurants, hiking, spending time with friends and family and enjoying each other and our wonderful lives.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2008
We loved this area for its historic activities, outdoor adventure activities, and the central location to some great towns in the Hudson Valley.
Quite nights, the sound of train, wonderful gardens, and so close to it all.
Perfect place to enjoy the historic homes, and the beautiful Hudson River Valley. Home was clean and very comfortable!
My husband and I with another couple were stayed in this house for the Labor Day weekend (last minute booking). Eilis was a pleasure to deal with! The description of the house was very accurate and the instructions provided were very detailed. This home is somewhat small but beautifully and lovingly decorated, and very clean (which is very important to me). We didn't plan to cook or grill but if we were, the kitchen was stocked with all the basics. There was also coffee/tea machine with variety of k-pods left for us.
We loved the area - very close to Rhinebeck (one of our favorite places), close to all sorts of shopping, many restaurants to eat in or order. It was a nice weekend in a very nice and comfortable home.
I checked in with three other people for what had to be one of the hottest weekends of the summer. If you turn the air conditioner on the main floor on, shut the basement door, leave the main floor bedroom doors open and sleep with them open it's totally comfortable. The people who slept in the master upstairs said the air-conditioner was sufficient if the door was kept closed upstairs. It truly was super hot out but we were fine in the house. It was a major concern of mine and it all worked out!
We booked the house as accommodation for going to an Omega workshop. It was amazing accommodation with only a 15 to 20 minute drive to Omega. Fully equipped and good water pressure in the showers.
Great decor and lovely linens.
Would highly recommend and I would stay there again for sure!
Note: access to the house was through a remote garage door opener. This becomes problematic if you are not always traveling with your group.
Also if unloading groceries and luggage, pull up to the side of the house and bring it in through the front door. Then go park the car on the lower-level garage area. Saves a lot of hassle.
From the minute we pulled up to the home, we were happy! A quiet location, beautiful decorating, and the perfect amount of space to enjoy our 2 night stay. Perfectly situated-close to all of the historic sites Hyde Park/Rhinebeck offers. Ellis (the owner) could not have been more helpful-from giving tips on favorite dining spots, to sending coupons for the fair we attended. We will absolutely be back.
A beautifully decorated home, lots of room for our entire family. We felt very comfortable, we even played catch in the backyard to relax in the evening.
Our son came in from NYC on Amtrack, so having space to relax was very important.
We easily traveled the Hudson Valley area and we found a few new places to eat and vist from the information binder in the home.
This was our first time using a home for our vacation rental, this worked out so well I dont think we will be using hotels again.
We rented the house for the Memorial Day weekend. We planned to hike in the region and invited two friends to join us for a BBQ. Several things made the experience in this home disappointing. First, the chairs on the outdoor deck were all defective-in fact at least two were broken and fell apart; the remaining two were also defective and wobbly. When I contacted the owner regarding the chairs and the fact that the washer and dryer wasn't working, she thanked me and suggested that if I hadn't informed her she might have charged me for the broken chairs, she also suggested we use a local laundromat for our dirty clothing. I find it difficult to believe she wasn't aware of the broken chairs-all of the outdoor chairs showed visible signs of aging and disrepair-how is it possible they were not aware?
The A/C in the bedroom was not only too small to effectively cool the upstairs bedroom, it was falling apart, noisy, and partially held together by a T-shirt that was stuffed into the side of the A/C; because it did not properly fit in the window and was held together by a T-shirt, bugs continuously entered the bedroom and landed on the bed (the A/C is above the headboard).
In terms of cleanliness, the house was visibly clean, however, and given that the washer/dryer wasn't working it is not clear to me whether the bedroom sheets were changed before our arrival. The dishwasher contained dirty dishes, and the BBQ was disgusting-we thoroughly cleaned it but it was very clear it hadn't been cleaned in a very long time.
The other oddity is the requirement that you enter the home via the garage- a key was not provided for our stay, just a garage door opener. The opener only worked for one side of the garage and low and behold, it was the side of the garage which contained tons of furniture. Before our arrival the owners sent a long email outlining their requirements for our stay, including leaving the home in the exact condition upon arrival, watering their plants, not moving furniture, picking up their mail and stripping sheets, bringing garbage to the curb and starting a load of wash (sheets/towels) before leaving.
Finally, the house was completely cluttered with the owners personal belongings, leaving no room for guests to place their personal belongings.
This house is about the convenience of the homeowners and not guests who rent the home; very little effort was made to consider the needs of guests.
Dead end road, bikes available, lots of lawn games, across the street from Vanderbilt Home, down the road from FDR Library, close to many hiking trails, short walk to Hudson river. So many activities close: biking, hiking, kayaking, restaurants (everready diner seen on the food network), wonderful spas, Drive-In Movies, Culinary Institue of America, Rhinbeck Ny, Antiques, shopping, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, walkway over the hudson state park, many other historic homes in area, Dairy Queen, 18 hole Golf Course 3 minute drive, horseback riding, dutchess county fair grounds, woodstock and new paltz within a 30 minute drive. Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY 5 minutes. Great area during any season of the year!
