Perched atop the exclusive Loma Bonita, the only hill in front of the ocean in Las Terrenas, the family-friendly villa comfortably sleeps ten. All of the bedrooms boast air conditioning, private bathrooms with bathroom amenities and well-appointed furnishings that mix antique with modern for an eclectic, stylized feel.

The contemporary kitchen is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, including a 'Ilve' 4 burner with grill; dishwasher; and a filtered water and ice dispensing refrigerator. Aesthetic touches like an apron sink or marbola countertops add to the sleek, urban theme. The versatile kitchen is fully-functional, at ease hosting large parties or preparing intimate, gourmet meals.

In one of the many outdoor spaces, hand-wrought metal work and stone tiles surround the Balinese-style infinity pool and heated jacuzzi. Coupled with jaw-dropping views of the Atlantic, this terrace is perfect for daytime lounging. A full bar and outdoor grill help transition the space for night time entertainment.

Casa Phil is a three-minute walk from the beach, located in the quiet, exclusive neighborhood of Loma Bonita. A five-minute drive to the city center, there are a few bars and restaurants within walking distance if you would prefer to stay close to home.

A mobile phone with a local SIM card is available up on request, and all outlets are fitted for both American 110v and European 220v electronics.

About Philippe

I'm born and grew up in Italy. I lived in many countries, from Varese in Italy to New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona and finally now in Las Terrenas. I'm an environmental engineer graduated from NYU Polytechnic University in NYC and the University of Pavia in Italy. My passions: my son, dune buggies (that I build, sell and rent: contact me if you wish to have one during your stay) and surfing.

Philippe purchased this villa in 2011

Why Philippe chose Dominican Republic North Coast

If you've never been to Las Terrenas before it might be difficult to explain this but this town is a unique place on earth, where sometimes time seems to stop and all the issues that make your daily life dissipate and to start living in harmony with nature and the elements surrounding you. I discovered Las Terrenas thanks to my mom in 2003 and then during a vacation here I had the opportunity to purchase a plot of land and this is how the story began...

What makes this villa unique

Casa Phil is a dream house. It was built with care, love and sacrifice. We built it for our family and hence looked and though of all details during the planning and building process.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Casa Phil sits high on a point between playa Ballenas and playas Perdida /Bonita. To us this is the best location in the area, because it is close and easy to walk along the beach or road to the main town of Las Terrenas and its many restaurants (and easy to get a taxi back). But it is also very private and quiet if you want to feel you have gotten away from it all. The more pristine beach of Playa Bonita is a 15 minute walk through a jungle trail (Victor showed us the way). The house is modern, sleek and luxurious and the pictures on tripadvisor do not do justice to the view. There are large porches and open areas on 3 levels and gorgeous views from all. We kept the house open all day, but it always stayed cool from the ocean breeze. And we never had a problem with mosquitos! It is easy to book the excursions from here with Flora Tours (nice trip to the national park!) because they will pick you up from the house. One of the very best things about the house is the staff! Victor did all of the grocery shopping and even bought fresh fish on the beach and cleaned the fish for our dinner. Andrea is amazing! She made us fabulous breakfasts every day (omelletes, pancakes, bacon) that we ate in the al fresco dining room with the best view in town. Sometimes we ate lunch in and dinner out, and sometimes we chose to eat lunch out and dinner in (for a small fee), which was wonderful after a long day at the beach. And at the perfect time in the afternoon she would ask, "piña coladas?" She would make up a batch in the blender with fresh pineapples. Overall everything was perfect and Philippe always available to help with anything. We wouldn't stay any where else!

Wish I'd stayed in THAT house

  • 5 of 5

We had a big crew—four families, 14 people in tow for our stay in Las Terranas. We'd rented two houses. The one up on the top of the hill and Casa Phil. While the house I stayed in with my family was great, Casa Phil was better. More modern, more family friendly and able to be closed off if it rained (it didn't, but how nice to have the option). So the house was cool, and when I discovered the unanticipated need to get signatures to New York so my son wouldn't lose his new apartment, the house's owner—that would be Phil—saved the day, arranging for his attorney to notarize my signature and send the package via scooter, bus and personal courier to the DHL office on the other side of the island, where it arrived safely and made its way to New York, just in time.

So, Casa Phil is a great house, Phil is a great guy and I can assure you, you'll have the time of your life in this beautiful part of the Dominican Republic. We'll definitely be back—and next time, I'll be staying in THAT house.

Perfect weekend with friends

  • 5 of 5

I could not have asked for a better Bachelorette weekend at Casa Phil! From the moment of booking to the minute we got to the house, Philippe was responsive and answered all of our questions/concerns. From the second we arrived at the house Philippe and his staff were there to help us, from grocery shopping to making dinner reservations and organizing cab rides for us. We did not have to worry about a thing the entire time we were there. Andrea prepared our breakfast, lunch and dinner and it was better than any restaurant food we could have had in the area! Fruit platters, banana pancakes, fresh juice. YUM! I am still dreaming about the fried chicken and rice and beans! She was a joy to be around and always had a smile on her face.

The house itself is beautiful and we had no desire to leave it! Each room and every corner is decorated perfectly with amazing attention to detail. I think the house itself is better than the photos. Watching the sunset while in the pool overlooking the ocean is something I will never forget.

We wandered to the beach which is a 5 minute walk and to a local restaurant one night for appetizers and drinks. We really did not feel the need to leave the house and I am looking forward to my next stay at Casa Phil! Already recommended Las Terrenas/Casa Phil to my family and friends!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!

Tropical Villa with all the necessary amenities

  • 5 of 5

Casa Phil is a beautiful home with plenty of space for our family of 8 with a baby. It even has a room for kids with 3 bunk beds and toys.

The pool and the terrace was a great place for our family to hang out each day early in the morning or later in the day after being at the beach or strolling around Las Terrenas. We enjoyed the modern kitchen, lovely bedrooms and bathrooms, with ceiling fans and air conditioning.

Andrea the woman who helps around the house, Daniel the property maintenance man, and Phil the owner of the property were all very friendly and helpful.

There are many great places to eat and shop and the beach is down the little dirt road about a 4 minute walk. There is everything you need in town including a north American style grocery store. There was also a little yacht club close where we could rent SUP and Kayaks for the day. All within walking distance.

We took a short walk early each morning to buy coconuts from a man who drives around on a motorcycle and empanadas sold on the street! Yum!!

The Samana Zip Line was fun, and a taxi took us to and from the Samana Airport, coming right to the house to get us.

We had a great experience at Casa Phil and have already recommended it to several friends! We plan to return!

Simply Amaxing

  • 5 of 5

I would like to begin by thanking Philippe and his staff for making our entire trip absolutely amazing from start to finish. From the months leading up to our stay, to the minute we got on the plane to come home, they all went above and beyond.

Our group stayed at Casa Phil for 10 nights, and consisted of 4 adults and 6 children (a 2 year old, three 4 year olds, an 8 year old and one 10 year old). The villa more than accommodated our group in terms of space and amenities. The home itself is absolutely spectacular. Very well appointed, beautifully furnished, and intelligently laid out in a way that is ideal for the setting and our situation. I can honestly say that we utilized every square inch of the home, and enjoyed spending time on every level, in every room, and every space.

Aside from enjoying the pool and the home, we also spent considerable time on the nearby beaches. Despite being very removed and secluded, the home is just a 5 minute walk down a private “hidden” road to the main beach. The beach itself is gorgeous, and while active on the weekends, we essentially had it to ourselves on weekdays We also made a concerted effort to get out and about in the town of Las Terrenas proper, which was very worthwhile and I am glad we did so. Las Terrenas is very unique, especially relative to what you would (not) experience in an area like Punta Cana.

In terms of excursions, we went horseback riding to El Limon waterfall and zip lining in Playa El Valle. But the highlight by far was spending the day with Philippe on the buggy tour. I can’t imagine a day being more fun, more entertaining, or special.

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the staff by name. Andrea, Victor, Jenelle and Danielle made the trip for us. They doted on our children, tended to our every need, and went above and beyond to make our stay as peaceful and stress free as possible. Andrea in particular deserves special mention as both the cocinera y jefe de la casa. Her cooking was filled with joy and love, and I already miss her pancakes, rice pudding, chicken and frijoles.

I can recommend this home, host and staff without reservation or hesitation. Do yourself a favor and come to Casa Phil! Thank you all again so much for making our stay at Casa Phil so unique and wonderful, and we will most definitely be back!

Beautifull villa!

  • 5 of 5

Very pleasant stay with our 4 kids (12 to 16) during spring break. The villa is beautifull, clean and spacious. The views are magneficiants! The kids sent the week in the pool or playing pool! Victor and Andrea were a great help, grocery shopping, cooking (good cook!). It was great waking up to a table full of fresh cut fruits, omelettes and crepes! We also had dinner at the villa every night and went in town for icecream in the evening (quiet village, nothing much to do in evening there). The beach close by (4-5 minutes) is nice and a great one if you like to take walks. The only down side was a home being built 2 houses down. We could hear the construction during week days (off during week-end). But since it wasn't a trip planed for relaxation but more for having a good time with our kids it was ok. Went to Playa Bonita (waves great!) and Playa Coson. I would definitly recommand this villa!

Owner's Response: Dear Marie-France, thank you so much for the nice review. We were so happy to host such a nice family. Sorry about the construction noise but it's something we could not control. I did check with the builders after your check out and they are just finishing out now. We try to make our guests happy in every way so that their stay is complete and very enjoyable. It sounds like it was like that with you all. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Warm Regards Philippe

Simply perfect

  • 5 of 5

Simply put from start to finish one of the best rentals we have ever had.

We traveled Jan 30 - 8th 2016 with a group of 7 and could not have had a better trip. Philippe was extremely attentive and responsive throughout the booking process and went above and beyond in answering all our questions and arranging our transportation from/to Santo Domingo to the house.

We were greeted right outside customs by our driver (Louis) who was very helpful and even provided wifi in the van during the drive to the house and was happy to stop at a grocery store near the house so we could stock up on a few provisions.

Upon arriving at the house we were met by Philippe (owner), Andrea (cook and house master) and, Victor (general helper) who had welcoming glass of wine ready for us. It was a nice way to start. We had also arranged with Philippe to have Andrea prepare dinner for us that evening and after a tour of the house we had a fantastic meal.

I think Philippe does not highlight enough the cooking skills of Andrea in his listing as its the real hidden gem in choosing this house. Andrea is an great cook, nothing overly fancy, more simple dominican style, but delicious food nonetheless. From banana pancakes, and fresh squeezed juice in the morning, to tacos for lunch, and fresh fish, pork, or chicken for dinner, she handed it all, including accommodating two of us with Gluten allergy. All you need to do is purchase the food, which given a list Victor is happy to do for you, and Andrea takes it from there. We ended up eating almost all our meals at the house because it was so easy and delicious.

The photos are a very accurate representation of the house and in fact the house is even more comfortable than it looks in the photo, we really felt right at home. Lots of great places to curl up with a book.

Pool & hot tub were cleaned daily, Andrea made all the beds and cleaned all the rooms daily as well. Honestly, while it was a VRBO it was more like staying a 5 star resort where all we had to do was ask and it was taken care of. Victor was happy to run into town for beer, wine, food, cigars, whatever, whenever we asked.

Local area was nice with the beach, and a beach bar, just a short 5 minute walk down the hill. We rented 2 four wheelers for the week to explore the area and other beaches (all fantastic in their own right) and had no problem getting around.

We wholeheartedly recommend this house and look forward to returning ourselves.

Owner's Response: Andrew, we cannot thank you enough for the wonderful review you gave us. I'll defenitely share it with the staff. There is so much to making a home comfortable and enjoyable for family and friends gathering, so we really try hard to make it feel like home and supply you with all you need so you don't even need to leave the house if you don't want too !! So happy that you enjoyed it so much. We wanted it to be special for you. Thank you so much for your kind words. Philippe

About las terrenas

Anywhere you look, one beach is more beautiful than the next one. Playa cosón heads up the list with its turquoise, pristine waters and its three miles of white sand shore. You can actually walk along the sea from the end of playa cosón to playa la bonita (which literally means the beautiful beach,) then playa escondida; cross the hill and you are in playa las ballenas (just nearby Casa Phil), playa punta popi and playa portillo. Over ten miles of a continuous incredible paradise ready for you to discover.

Watch the whale!

Whale watching in the bay of samaná will be one of the highlights of your visit. Between the months of january to march, humpback whales come from distant oceans to the waters of samaná to perform their courting songs and impress us with fascinating shows of flippering and jumping. These whales have chosen our area to mate and come back every year with their newborns and male companions to start anew their cycle of life.

Excursions and day trips

Whether on a horse, on an atv, by car or on a boat, there are wonderful excursions and day trips you can enjoy in the area. From el salto de el limón - el limón falls, fishing trips, snorkeling and scuba diving, or just a walking tour of las terrenas, your days can be filled with activity and emotions. Zip-lining and eco tours through this wonderful tropical forests are an incomparable adventure and a total must. My dear friend Francis is the captain of the 45ft catamaran named 'Califa' and you may contact him for a day trip in the Samana bay to the beautiful 'Cayo Levantado' island (my favorite hang out for snorkeling) or to the 'Haites' national park.

Fine dining and wining in las terrrenas

If you just want to sit back and and enjoy fine drinking and dining, las terrenas and samaná offer you a wide range of international restaurants. From mexican fajitas to an ukranian borscht to a french ratatouille, the cosmopolitan flavor of this town is reflected not only in its population but also in its cuisine. A café au lait and a croissant for breakfast, a cuban sandwich and a mojito for lunch and a paella for dinner is not an unthinkable menu in your culinary journey of las terrenas and samaná. Our favorite hangouts in town (and defenitely 'must do' during your stay) are the 'spoon beach restaurant bar' just 1 minute walk for casa phil owned by willy a cooking gem in town, 'le tre caravelle' owned by the friendly simone for a refined italian fish based dinner (don't leave without trying the risotto tre caravelle), 'la serviette' if you crave for modern french caribbean cuisine, 'la salsa' in the 'fisherman's village with the best price/quality 200 pesos mid day menu.

Sports events and sport tours

Nothing prevents you from continuing practicing your favorite sports and keeping in shape while vacationing in las terrenas or samaná. You can even participate in a 10k road race, a cross country run, a mountain bike competition, sailing, going to a gym, swimming, kite surfing and surfing in our beaches. There are annual events such as las terrenas 10k and the cross country @ playa morón which are internationally accredited athletic events which promote our area as a main sport tourism destination in the dominican republic. If you are into surfing or have always wanted to try it, here is you chance, visit 'nalu surfshop' owned by my friend and surf instructor william.

Nightlife in las terrenas

Certainly, one of the most popular social activities for entertainment in las terrenas, dancing and 'clubbing' is a favorite for both national and international tourists visiting the area. Our 'fisherman's village' is a popular spot concentrating most of the discos and bars in las terrenas, but it is not the only area where to have fun. Nightlife is vibrant in this town offering a new world for the visitors to discover. My favorite's hangouts in the 'fisherman's village' are the replay with Nicholas and Enzo for a mix of contemporary and latin music often animated by one of the local dance schools (to practice your bachata and salsa moves), gaia disco owned by sergio our neighbour on loma bonita.
