Great place, great owner.

  • 5 of 5

We were greeted by 7 deer in the yard. The place is in great condition - professionally cleaned and well-maintained. Mary was excellent at communicating. There was an issue with the hot tub out of her control and she had someone there right away to look into it. Since we were there in the fall, it was great using the wood stove. Mary had the wood well-stocked. We really loved the open set-up of the first floor. It was a great meeting place for everyone. I would strongly recommend this place.

Great Cottage, even nicer than the pictures show!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cottage for the entire 2 weeks we spent there. Truly, the pictures don't convey just how nice and clean this place is. There is a ton of space for visitors. I would recommend this place to anyone interested. We will definitely keep it in mind for next year!

Private feeling cottage close to Lake Michigan

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful girls weekend here!! The cottage has a private feel to it as it is surrounded by trees on all sides. It was very clean and well stocked. It felt much larger than the pictures make it seem. We spent A LOT of time in the hot tub which was wonderfully secluded from any neighbors eyes. Lake Michigan is a quick 5 minute walk from the cottage down a two-track like road. When you get there, there is a nice sitting area with great panoramic views of the lake. Be aware that it is a STEEP climb down many stairs to actually get down to the beach so this would not be ideal for multiple trips up and down and it would not really be practical to haul a cooler down to the water either. Since we went when it was still chilly out though, we already had everything we wanted/needed at the cottage. Mary was very easy to work with; she was very accommodating and quick to respond to e-mails. This was one of the few vacation rentals I found that was willing to take reservations for only one night and it was very reasonably priced especially for the amount of space and cleanliness factors.

Owner's Response: Just to let folks know, there is a second way to access the beach besides the stairs. There is a driveway that goes down to the beach. You can pack up coolers and other supplies, drive down to the beach and unpack, then park for the day along the drive.

We didn't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

The Cottage in the Woods was a perfect getaway for my husband and me to celebrate our anniversary weekend. It is so close to two of our favorite lakeshore resort towns, but we felt a million miles away from it all, in the quiet of the woods. The cottage is immaculate, beautiful and comfortable. A fire in the woodstove and a soak in the hot tub under the trees made it feel like a luxury retreat. We did not want to leave! But we will definitely return in the summer, to play on the lovely beach!

Cottage in the Woods is located in the quaint older residential community of Glenn Shores just south of the tiny hamlet of Glenn, MI which is about halfway between South Haven and Saugatuck/Douglass. The Blue Star Highway (two lane) which connects these communities boasts many galleries and antique shops, a few restaurants, bakeries, wineries, and golf courses. Just a mile north of Glenn is a very large nature preserve called Wau-Ke-Na ('Forest by the water') that offers miles of hiking and cross country skiing trails and is open to the public free of charge. Of course, you may not even want to leave Glenn Shores as the beach access is only a five minute walk down a wooded road to the steps down the bluff. There is also the option of driving right down to the beach via the members only access road. There you will find a beach with miles of walking opportunity in either direction.
