About Susan Carter

We are Florida natives that grew up fishing in Cedar Key. We are in the construction business and build green homes. This is our dream home for when we can retire. Much love and personal hard work went into creating and building this special get away.

Susan Carter purchased this house in 2010

Why Susan Carter chose Florida North Central Gulf Coast

Perfection in Cedar Key!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a weeklong stay at Family Tides. NEVER have I relaxed so much in such beautiful surroundings. It seems as if the Carters designed this statuesque three story home to respect the surroundings without competing with them in the least.

From various balconies guests drink in the beauty of Cedar Key, its waterways and wildlife, its scrub oaks and native palms without once ruffling a single feather or deep- green bush. Ospreys soar gracefully as they work to build their massive nests stage front high in pines very near the house. In the distance beautiful sunrises light the morning activity of gulls and sand birds, of low tides with exposed sandbars. Everyday, all day is a cool breeze suggesting breathing deeply to simply let your soul catch up.

The home clearly is the most beautiful in all of Cedar Key. We invited our children and grandchildren over for the weekend and loved paddle boarding and kayaking right from the nearby dock. Beds and privacy, bathrooms and a large verandah for visiting and blowing bubbles made this house perfection as a rental. Everything is spotlessly clean with just the right amount of art and furnishings to compliment all God had done outside.

Beautiful dark wood floors intersect wide and cool tile floors then mix with the owner’s choices of cool colors from the sea. My favorite room was a guest room bath cleverly mixing yellow and white tiles with complimentary yellow pegs to hold the hotel quality towels. Also perfectly chosen fish art again reiterated the touches of yellows.

The bedrooms are huge as are the baths. Clearly understanding guests love for a pet, the Carters welcomed our Sheltie “Rebel” and he loved it all too. The kitchen worked like a charm, but remained closed often enough to sample great restaurants in Cedar Key, whose pace is worthy of a hammock easily swaying in a breeze. The new restaurant Carlin’s was our favorite bar none!

This was a vacation we will never forget, and should the Carters still be renting again, we will be back…OFTEN!

Fabulous and spacious!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in this nearly new spacious home. Four families (8 adults and 8 children) had plenty of room to ring in the New Year. The house was immaculate and nicely decorated. We enjoyed walking down to the dock for fishing and kayaking and also enjoyed biking into town, as it was not too far for the little guys. The owner was very helpful with tips and advice for our stay. I would highly recommend Family Tides and would certainly consider staying again.

wonderful site for small family wedding!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, spacious house, nicely decorated and not cluttered by too many decorations. We held my daughter's wedding here on 8/23/14, with nearly 30 in attendance. The great room was large enough to hold the ceremony. We temporarily rearranged the furniture and set up a wedding arch. The house was large enough to house 7 persons (and could have housed more). We loved the fact that there were large gathering rooms on both the 1st and 2nd floors. Another advantage was the privacy of having a bathroom for each bedroom. The kitchen is fabulous (even though we didn't cook much). We could have hosted the wedding luncheon at the house but opted to go to Tony's for a luncheon in their private backroom. I could go on and on about this beautiful house!

Like A Dream

  • 5 of 5

Family Tides exceeded our expectations. We could tell by the pictures it was beautiful but, this home is amazing...The views, it's location and the comfort it provides are priceless. It has everything you may need and more and the rental process was a breeze. Our group consisted of 11 people all ages from 14 months to 55+ (including teenagers), everyone loved it and we can not wait to come back.

Wow, what a wonderful vacation home and location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Family Tides for a week in March, 2012. This new, lovely home had more than enough room for our group of 5 adults and 6 teenagers. Each room is beautifully decorated, and the kitchen has all top-level appliances and features. The views of the back bay from the porch and the upper story decks are fantastic, especially with sunrise over the bay. We saw many shore birds each day, and one morning we saw numerous dolphins playing near the shore.

The home is located in a wooded area with many, many birds. Within a short distance are nests for ospreys and great horned owls. A short walk brings you to the large private dock, which is great for fishing, catching the sun and star gazing. Also within a short walk is a nature preserve with a boardwalk through the wet lands. And for the those interested in fishing, there is easy access from the shore to channels. At these locations, the speckled trout and redfish often can be caught during the incoming tides; just ask some of the locals for places and times to fish.

The home is also within a pleasant walk to downtown and the marina area, as well as to the local history museum. At the marina, you can rent a boat and get expert local fishing advice. The time and spot we were told to try yielded numerous speckled trout.

We are definitely planning to spend future family vacations at Cedar Key and plan to stay at Family Tides each time.
