About Antonia Albano
Barney & I both love rolling farmland & mountains. After spending several decades in California we left for a ten year circumnavigation by sailboat. We were ready to cross 'the pond' after 6 years aboard, when we discovered Lexington. We loved the farmlands, the universities, the seeming slower pace & drop back of 50 years. It is both lost in time & up-to-date. We love the juxtaposition.
Antonia Albano purchased this Cabin in 2003
Why Antonia Albano chose Buena Vista
When we had the opportunity to purchase this farmland we did not hesitate. It was love at first sight. As an equestrian for several decades I had always dreamed of a country life, close to town, with hayfields & old log cabins. Barney was raised on farmland. The Shenandoah Valley is hard to beat. We stopped sailing & shipped the boat back to California where we visit her a few times per year. Our love is the land, the old barns & the people who come visit us instead of us continuing around the world visiting them.
What makes this Cabin unique
I think our favorite thing to do on the land is to walk through the woods & up to the highest hill where there is a 360 degree view of the Blue Ridge & Allegheny Mountain ranges. Many guests say they have walked up early in the morning, some at sunset & sat with a bottle of wine, a loaf of bread & cheese & watched the sun rise and/or set. We agree, it is hard to beat. Sitting on the back deck of the cabin with your loved one, sipping a cool drink watching the sun either rise or set is a memory you will take with you. Listening to the rain on the old tin roof, the smell of a wood fire in the fireplace & the occasional howl of a distant coyote for its mate are the sensory 'candy' that we need to remind us to slow down & connect with ourselves & those we love. It reminds us of priorities & wraps us in the stories this old place could tell...

Wonderful rustic retreat
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the DeHart cabin. We loved feeling secluded but being close to downtown Lexington and we enjoyed the hike to the State of Grace hilltop. The cabin was well-equipped with everything we needed and we found the beds to be very comfortable. We hope to return again another time!
We are thrilled you enjoyed your stay with us on the farm and DeHart Cabin. This land is truly magical isn't it? We hope you will return soon. Each season has its gifts:)
Really beautiful rural getaway!!
Beautiful property, comfortable beds and furniture, wood-burning fireplace was a huge plus. There are some VERY low beams in the cabin and the front doorway is also very short - apparently people were smaller in the 1860s!!! Perhaps some padding on the low, dark wood beams would lessen the blows to the head that occurred on our stay, and likely on many other stays over the past 150 years. 8^) We would definitely consider staying here again!!!
We are so happy you enjoyed your stay with us on the farm and DeHart Cabin. It is a guest favorite. Yes, the cabin is historically authentic and people were much shorter in the 1860s...all part of the adventure back in early Virginia history:)
We hope to welcome you back soon. Each season has its gifts on the farm.
Very cozy and inviting! Also a nice little hike to an amazing view
Our stay at the cabin was better than expected, the pictures don’t do it justice. Very cozy and authentic feeling. So many stars at night on a beautiful property and a wonderful view and hike to the top of the mountain . It was also nice seeing deer every time we went up and down the drive way . Would definitely recommend for a peaceful getaway!
We are so happy you enjoyed your stay at our DeHart Cabin. It is a special cabin and one of my family's favorites. We hope you will return soon. Each season on the farm has its amazing gifts:)

Comfy, Clean and Cozy!
We very much enjoyed our stay at the DeHart Cabin and hope to return. Comfy, clean and cozy definitely. Ditto for the beds, wonderful! The location is beautiful.
Thank you for your kind words. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. We get compliments all of the time on the comfort of our beds. They are dreamy. Hope to welcome you back again soon to the farm.
Wow! Authentic for sure! Great experience!
Blown away as soon as we stepped inside! Was fun looking for and finding the authentic old school touches from way back when! Never mind the wine was a nice touch! We didn’t get to wander out and enjoy the property due to our busy VMI weekend but fully intend on coming back. The owner was great and accommodated me being high maintenance a couple times without skipping a beat. I’m telling everyone I know to rent this cabin and others owned by this same owner. We feel lucky having gotten to experience it!
Thank you for your kind words. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay on the farm and in one of our authentic log cabins. Our goal is to make your experience a relaxing break from the norm. Hope we were successful:) Please come back anytime. Each season, each cabin, has its gifts.
