Great house in Northstar

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay in this Northstar mountain home. Great layout with plenty of space for six adults. Would definitely stay here again.

Didn't get the house we rented (the negative rating is for the management company, not the house)

  • 1 of 5

We checked in early which was nice, drove by the house and it was still being cleaned but we did a quick walk through and went for lunch. When we came back there was already other people checked into the house we rented. We called VRBO who confirmed that we were at the correct address but the other couple had keys that worked and ours didn't. VRBO couldn't tell us what happened and the management company wouldn't answer their phone (4:00 p.m. local time). We were on our way back to their offices when the other couple called having reached them by phone. We were provided an alternative address where we went and our key fit. I assume they double booked the house somehow? Not being able to get in touch with the property manager and being exhausted we just stayed in the second house.

Problems with the second house in addition to it not being ours:

Two of the three rooms were connected so me and my wife had to listen to our travel partner snore for two nights

The hot water heater wasn't working so we had to work on it to get hot water

The back deck was covered in bat crap. I assume that is what the shovel was there for, wish they would have used it before we got there.

The email that should have arrived prior to check in with directions and so forth arrived the night after we got there.

All in all, a horrible first experience with VRBO that I suspect was the fault of the property management company.

Very convenient location with great shuttle service

  • 5 of 5

Although the decorations were a bit outdated, the house was very clean and cozy. The shuttle service was very prompt and convenient, so waits to get to and from the village to the house. Definitely recommend this place for 1-2 small families.

Good location but house in poor condition

  • 1 of 5

We staid in this house for about a week right after Christmas 2015. The location is good, at the end of a street on the Northstar resort, with free shuttles to the resort that pick you up and drop you off (don't even try and take your car after 8am, the parking lots are just full :)

Unfortunately the house is in poor condition. We contacted the rental agency (Evolve wasn't super helpful) and got the most important things fixed fast (no hot water in bathrooms, leaking faucet in kitchen). But there is a long list of things that need to get fixed to justify their price, mainly due to the fact that this house is a but of a time capsule from the 70's – with appliances from the sam era:

- Feet-wide plaster patches, unpainted, everywhere – in all bedrooms, on walls and ceilings

- Broken trash can lid / pedal in kitchen

- Loose toilet on first floor, and slow to evacuate

- Leaking faucet in first floor bathroom (when open)

- Stained yellow toilet seat upstairs

- Master bedroom lamps on night stand not working (one just doesn't turn on, one makes a loud buzzing noise and the top of the lamp doesn't stay up)

- Lots of dust everywhere

- Noisy fridge with an almost constant buzz – when this and the heat go off, you have to increase the TV volume by a lot to still hear what's going on on the screen

- Leaking faucet in kitchen (when turned off, fixed by plumber)

Plus despite the fact that you're on the VRBO site, which stands for Vacation Rental by _Owners_ this property is offered by another company, which gets it from another company, which (eventually) gets it from the actual owners (we hope)... Lots of middle men.

Owner's Response: We are sorry to hear about some of the issues you experienced during your stay. The property managers have been notified and they are addressing the concerns. Unfortunately, prior to your trip, the furnace failed which resulted in many of these issues. This has been repaired. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review as this helps us to make improvements for future guests. -The Evolve Team
