This Soaring Custom-built Log Chalet is nestled on 5.2 acres near the Shenandoah National Park, letting you enjoy true secluded privacy.
On the spacious deck, you'll feel like you are living among the trees. Many of our guests spend much of their time relaxing there, making dinner on the gas grill and melting into the six person Hot Tub.... Nothing compares to the night sky from the Hot Tub on the deck - so many more stars than you'll find in the city.
Rather have s'mores around the campfire? Go ahead, we provide a fire ring, and you are welcome to gather wood from the surrounding area. Or snuggle up inside by the gas log fireplaces and play one of the board games we provide. This is time to unplug from the constant rush of your workday.....
Two full baths and a complete kitchen will keep you in touch with the modern conveniences you need to enjoy yourself. We provide a set of bed linens for your stay, but ask that you bring your own towels and toiletries.... Time for bed: the master bedroom is on the main level; there's another bedroom with sitting room and bath on the lower level.... Welcome the sunrise through the 6 foot quarter round windows from the loft bedroom that overlooks the main living area.

This is a custom built Log Chalet that I designed and Built to take advantage of the Natural Beauty of the area.
The Chalet is built with an eye on the Pioneering Spirit of Early America. We built our Cabins to be unique and in context with the heritage of the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountain culture.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
The Chalet is one of the best Ways to 'go camping' with a really cool tent...the Chalet.
The quite seclusion and natural beauty of the Area is consistently amazing me. I have seen at one time or another every bird Native to the Eastern Woods of North America including Eagles, Falcons, Red Cocakted Wood Peckeresm song birds of every type.
Spring and Fall Migrations are a wonderful time to spot many different and unique birds.
Part of our cabin is to enjoy the evening with a camp fire. Sitting around the fire with friends is a experience that you will enjoy and remember. There is ample free downed wood that can be found and used on the property.
Watching the Stars on a clear night is something to behold. The Milky Way is clearly visible. On a full Moon night with clear weather you can go hiking at night without a flashlight.
Hiking to the Shenandoah National Park is near by and easy to do. Three Water Falls are close enough to hike in a day hike. Dark Hollow Falls and Lewis Falls, are accessible by trail SNP trails. Naked Creek West Falls, are a bush whacking hike for the more adventurous. Big Meadows is just 'up the hill' about 1 and 1/2 Mile Hike from the area.
Fishing at the near by pond is also a great experience to relax and unwind. Thoughts of Huck Finn often slip into you mind while enjoy the quite natural beauty of the area.
This cabin was a fantasy getaway for our 30th anniversary. We had the greatest time. It is rustic but just what I wanted time alone with no Internet. The hot tub was great, the place was comfortable and clean. It is a wonderful log cabin. I wish I lived there full time.
My friends and I stayed here for a three day getaway from DC. The cabin is rustic, settled beautifully in the woods. It is a great place to go to really un-connect and just enjoy nature and the company you came with. Unlike some of the reviews, the cabin pretty much had everything we needed aside from towels, because of the reviews we came over prepared with kitchen items & toilet paper none of which were necessary. The property was pretty clean, we enjoyed the layout, felt there was ample space. The detailed directions and email about the surrounding area from the management company were very helpful. The only problem we had was that we ran out of propane on the grill one night. Thanks for a great weekend away, we'll be back!
In reading the reviews, we came prepared with lots of utensils, plates, cookware, etc. however imo, what was there would have been sufficient for my group. However, having said that, here are all the issues we came across:
-The entire home needs a serious top to bottom deep clean
-Dishwasher didn't work and we found the previous guests dishes crusted over in there.
-Kitchen sink was super small so washing dishes was incredibly challenging and there was little to no counter space
-Rear patio door lock is broken, was unlocked when we arrived and couldn't lock it when we left
-Several windows don't close all the way, particularly from the top thus plenty of bugs inside the house including a giant moth the size of my hand that was attacking us!
-The hot tub wasn't very hot and the hot tub cover is in rough shape
-The oven indicator light stayed lit the entire weekend
-The oven cooks unevenly (out of 2 batches of biscuits, 1st one almost burned after 6 minutes and 2nd one was still mushy after 12 even though we let it preheat forever)
Overall my group made the most of our trip and had a great time but there's a lot of little things about the house that need attention. Essentially it's camping in the deep woods/mountains with electricity and plumbing and if that's what you are looking for then you are in the right place. 100% recommend a 4 wheel drive since the narrow roads are just dirt, rocks and steep inclines. I can't even imagine the nightmare of coming there in the winter with snow!
I cannot say anything was terrible, the app did not work for getting in but there is a phone and someone mercifully called back to give us the correct code. There is no cell service there so.... that could have been a serious problem. But it worked out. The dishwasher did not work but then day three into the stay someone came and turned water on under the sink. Ok. Odd. The pots and pans were the cheapest but there were some there. Again ok. The dishes were fine. The coffee pot was fine. The gas grill was not fully cleaned but it worked and I am someone who will clean it. They ask that you recycle but they made no provisions for that. The advertised a washer but there was a locked room with no access, we could see the dryer vent from the window below. It would have been helpful. My biggest beef was the phone only made local calls. I had a sudden medical and a car emergency. All cell phones were useless because there was no signal there. Wifi would have helped with our communications. A long distance package with the phone, is not all that much extra money for the safety and well being of guests. They did say bring calling cards. So that gripe is on me. I just did not realize there is hardly a signal anywhere except way up the hill. We have a large family in the area and they have rented the house before and chances are they will rent it again but this was my first time personally. Our whole experience was pretty much "meh"
The cabin is beautiful and a good price. Clearly hand made with lots of charm and character. There were a few problems. The directions were confusing, it is very hard to get to. But we found it! Very secluded- no cell signal (which we liked). The beds are comfy. However, there are a few things missing. No hand soap. Dishwasher wasn't working so we had to hand wash all the dishes. And make sure to bring your own dishwashing liquid, dishwasher detergent, trash bags, towels including hand towels. firewood and can opener. We also had some problems with the pilot light on the indoor gas fireplace. Also, the hot tub doesn't get that hot. One of the best things is that less than a 5 minute drive away you can park at a fireroad that is only a mile or two from skyline drive less than a mile from big meadows- where there are two hiking trails to waterfalls! I also really liked the checkin and checkout process.
A group of friends rented this property in July, therefore did not have any trouble as other reviews mentioned with snow/icy conditions. The cabin is secluded and very quiet, and the directions work well to locate the cabin- though would recommend arriving before dark! Since it is isolated there aren't great views of the shenandoah valley but the hot tub and large deck make up for that very well. The lake which is only a 7-10 minute walk away is excellent! and we went to the luray caverns which were only about 20 minutes away. please read the other reviews for things to bring as the house is lacking quite a few: a can opener, bathroom hand soap, a fresh sponge for the sink, trash bags, extra rolls of paper towels, foot and hand towels for both baths, dish washer detergent, and pots and pans. There is a rule that you cannot leave dishes in the dishwasher upon leaving, but upon our arrival we found dishes with hard crusted food filled in the dishwasher which we had to wash (this made us wonder if the house is cleaned between guests.) To follow this rule, since the dishwasher runs for about two hours, it is probably best to bring paper products for breakfast on your last morning.
