Hi I'm Lynn. A passionate lover of nature and animals and owner of a sweet german shepherd named Zeus, 2 adopted Swiss Mountain puppies along with my 6 horses. I love where I live and enjoy sharing it with others, so I manage an 80 acre equestrian center, nature preserve and vacation rental which is home to many wildlife species…myself included.
I have been a professional instructor of Natural Horsemanship for over 20 years and an avid equestrian. I currently teach private riding clinics and offer lessons. Recently I was also an instructor for a variety of natural horsemanship courses at Isothermal Community College here in Polk County where I enjoyed sharing techniques that were passed onto me. I have attended the International Study Center for Parelli Horsemanship in both Florida and Colorado and have been trained by several of the masters... Buck Brannaman, Lynn Palm, Chris Cox, Clinton Anderson, Pat Parelli and Dan James. Prior to opening TRANSITIONS I worked for several Fortune100 companies in sales and management for 30 years in the medical/surgical industry as well as IT.
I am Parelli Certified Level 4, a Certified Level 2 EAGALA Equine Specialist, a member of EFMHA (Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association) and have worked with my horses as an Equine Specialist for the department of juvenile justice, mental health community and prominent residential addiction treatment facilities in and around Polk and Rutherford counties.
About 7 years ago I created a unique learning center here called Transitions Empowerment Center (TRANSITIONS), located on 80 beautiful and tranquil rolling acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Where I offer three main programs: Natural Horsemanship (for instructor directed riding and horsemanship skills), Equine Guided Learning (for personal and professional growth) and Professional Services (focused on developing leadership skills and team building for businesses and organizations).
Lynn Brown purchased this cabin in 2006
Prior to moving to North Carolina I lived in Illinois, Colorado and most recently Florida. My husband and I love the four seasons of the midwest and the lush green foliage but were looking for more moderate temperatures. We fell in love with Colorado and the mountains and missed them while in Florida but not the huge amounts of snow. After spending over two years traveling to North Carolina to find our Dream Home, we discovered this property. We enjoy sharing the peacefulness of the country, the beauty that nature provides everyday for us here and the abundance of wildlife that makes up this preserve. We chose to move here 7 years ago and live onsite. Sharing with others the beauty and tranquillity of the views, habitats, wildlife and woodlands as well as our horses - has become our way of life here. To preserve and protect all that is here is our legacy while we strive for a green sustainable environment.
We are onsite owners and live on the north 40 acres of the property. While you enjoy complete privacy you also have us available should you need assistance during your stay. Concierge service with area restaurants or attractions or just help with anything at the cabin. Customer service is our specialty.
A Hideaway Cabin sits on it's own 40 wooded acres so collectively you have 80 acres to enjoy without ever having to leave the estate. Your privacy and security is assured beginning with the gated entryway. If you are looking for the ultimate in tranquility and would rather not endure the hectic noise, traffic or intrusion of other travelers during your trip, then we are the ideal location. I guarantee there is nothing else like it anywhere. You won't see or hear anyone else during your stay, it's like having your own private preserve all to yourself.
The property includes so many options onsite for your enjoyment that everyone can find something. We are extremely dog friendly and have over 2 miles of walking trails for your pets to explore off leash! They do not need to be leashed while at the cabin at all.
Feeling adventurous? Miles of gentle walking trails or more challenging trails for a hike or workout, fish in our private pond, stocked with catfish, large mouth bass and brim or schedule a relaxing guided trail ride with us on our well trained horses. Hand walked pony rides are even offered for the little ones!
About an hour from Greenville, Asheville or Charlotte our location provides the perfect base camp for exploring all that western North Carolina has to offer. Minutes to beautiful Lake Lure and Chimney Rock State Park. Only 7 miles to the new Tryon International Equestrian Center.
We could not have asked for a more perfect getaway weekend! It was truly a privilege and a pleasure riding with you and staying in your lovely cabin! We'll be back!!
This is definitely the perfect "Hideaway Cabin." From the scenery over looking the horse pasture and the pond, to the softly winding gravel road that led up to the cabin was absolutely breathtaking. The cabin itself is tucked back in the woods which offer nothing but a welcoming warm private environment. When we arrived Lynn and Doug had the wood stove fire burning making the cabin even more cozy! The trails were amazing to walk. The wildlife was beautiful. The cabin had all the amenities we needed. The hospitality of Lynn and Doug was amazing! They were only a text away if we needed but never interfered or interrupted. We left for a day trip and they even kept the woodstove burning for us. We couldn't have asked for anything more. This quiet serene beautiful place is where we will visit again. My boyfriend proposed to me on the dock of the pond so I know we will be revisiting this wonderful property again to remember all the wonderful memories that we created together! Thank you Lynn and Doug for everything that you did and your wonderful hospitality! See you soon!!
My husband and I spent two nights in this beautiful cabin for our 1 year wedding anniversary. It was everything and more then we expected. When we arrived we were greeted at the gate with a driving tour of the property. We were then shown where we would be staying. Lynn was amazing she even had the fire burning all day in the cabin for us so when we arrived it was warm. The cabin was so homey and clean and had everything we needed. We never wanted to leave. The peacefulness of the wood surrounding us was bliss. The 80 acre property had a pond which my husband and I had a romantic lunch on the deck along with several hiking trails which my husband and I hike all of. Needless to say we never had to leave the property to find entertainment. Between the hiking, star gazing at night (which by the way is AMAZING) and the swings on the property we had non stop fun. I highly recommend staying here and will be staying here again in the future.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lynn for the most wonderful few days I've enjoyed in long time. Upon my arrival, her warm smile made me feel comfortable and welcome at the same time. After a brief tour of the property she led me to my beautiful cabin in the woods. The cabin looked like a picture card. Once inside it looked gorgeous and beautifully decorated. It had every amenity that I needed. Along the way there were trails that were well marked that I enjoyed taking my daily walks on. There was a pond that was stocked with fish that I was lucky enough to catch some. The views from the lake looking back at the property was gorgeous. I also was able to enjoy my 1st horseback ride. After Emily prepared the horse, Lynn taught me first how to get to know the horse and make the horse feel comfortable with me. It was the most gentle animal. She then taught me the proper way to mount and to ride. Her methods are fantastic and she is a true horse whisperer. After a ride on some trails I realized how much I had missed in my life not ever riding a horse. Everyone was so helpful and made my visit one I will always remember and cherish. I would recommend anyone to visit Transitions and enjoy the most peaceful and beautiful spot around. You will not be disappointed. It was truly AWESOME!!!
I like to ride horses and my husband is a fisherman. This was the perfect way to celebrate his recent retirement. We arrived late, but Lynn was ready and waiting. As we drove back to the cabin in the woods we could see the string of lights in the trees welcoming us. There was a bottle of wine chilled waiting for us and the peepers were chirping for our entertainment.
I spent my days taking very informative lessons from Lynn while my husband caught numerous trout in the local Rivers. Lynns property has walking trails and is close to hiking and great outdoor activities.
The cabin was rustic, but also very well stocked.
We will definitely be returning for another stay. Best hospitality I have encountered in a VRBO rental.
We stayed at this great little cabin in the woods for a week in early September. The cabin was very charming, clean, well appointed and well equipped. Nice linens and towels. Would have preferred a king-size bed, but we made do. Loved the little front porch and swing, and the complete privacy of the property. We were able to turn our pets loose and let them run around. The cabin is set in very deep woods, up a winding gravel drive. The property had several riding/walking trails through the woods, and horses were available to rent. Not being equestrians, we didn't take advantage of riding, but the surrounding pastures and woods and stable were great to visit and the horses were fun to pet and ooh and ahh over.
Our host, Lynn Brown, was very friendly and eager to make sure we were happy with our accommodations. Her experience with horses and dogs was very much appreciated when one of our Airedales fell down a couple steps and hurt his paw. She helped us out with some painkillers to get the big guy through. It was apparently a minor sprain/bruise as the medication helped him get over the worst part and he was back to his rowdy self in a couple days. She also gave us restaurant suggestions, several of which we visited. We particularly liked the ribs and margueritas (me) at Larkin's on the Lake in Lake Lure, the Thai food at the Thai Rutherford (?), and pizza from La Strada (also in Lake Lure). Didn't care for Huckleberry in Tryon as much. The menu very limited during Sunday brunch, and the quiche and frittata were just so-so. We grilled at home every night so having the grill near to the cabin was very useful. We made the excursion up to Chimney Rock, which I had visited as a kid. Of course, I remembered nothing, so it was almost like seeing it for the first time. The views were fabulous and the drive up the approach to the trail challenging!
We loved the Hideaway Cabin and would give it 4 stars! Thankfully the cabin was air-conditioned. The best part was early in the morning when it was in the mid 60's and we could turn the AC off, and enjoy the breezes. Next time we'll wait until later in the fall as it was so bloody hot the whole time we were there.
If you like horses, riding, or just hiking and walking lovely wooded paths, with or without pets, enjoy privacy and a cozy cabin, this is the place. A perfect gem and Lynn was an awesome host.
The Hideaway is a special and unique experience. The cabin, located a half mile into beautiful woods of North Carolina, is all you could ask for. It is part of a wonderful horse ranch which has riding available for guests. The cabin itself is comfortable with everything you could ask for. Lynn, the owner, was a joy to work with.
