This home is owned by Rock Springs Run Reserve (Florida State Parks). It is operated by Jamie and Deb Zito from Cactus Jack's Trail Rides LLC. We take pride in offering this unbelievable home to the public for enjoyment.
Deb Zito has owned and operated Cactus Jack's Trail Rides LLC for the last 5 years in Ocala, Florida. When the stables at Rock Springs Run Reserve became available for a new horseback riding vendor, Deb and Jamie Zito decided to take on this beautiful new location. Along with the horseback riding, the Hammock House rental seemed like a great addition. We have always had customers ask 'Is there a romantic place to stay?' Now we can offer this amazing home to riders, and non-riders.....everyone will enjoy it!
Jamie Zito purchased this house in 2013
This home is all made from pecky cypress. It was originally a rancher's home. It sits in a 14,000 acre park and is right on the Wekiva River.
It has a barn/stable for guests to bring their own horses, or they can go riding at the riding stable in the park. Hiking is encouraged and wildlife is seen daily.
I am sorry to just be writing this review so late as we stayed here over a year ago with couple different families and all of our horses..... we fell in love with this paradise. Thrilled to be back to this site and booking it again for a special get together! Last time we were there, we not only rode our horses on great trails but we went paddling down on the river from the back yard and found good fishing along the way. I brought mountain bike and enjoyed peddling some of the trails. We had a rainy day which turned out to be a blessing because we played games provided in the house and pool (which I hadn't played in years) together which made us laugh alot! Wonderful memories and excited to return soon now.
I reserved the Hammock House to host a large BBQ celebration for my wedding reception. We had family staying in all of the bedrooms and hosted a party of about 85 people and the spaciousness made it perfect! We set up five tables with chairs under the car port, a small acoustic band under the front porch, a row of corn hole boards in the front yard, a cup cake stand on the card table, and the food spread on the kitchen table. All of the bedrooms were very spacious with their own bathroom attached.
The grounds were beautiful with turkeys, deer, and canoes. It feels very remote but has the conveniences of a stocked kitchen, A/C, internet access, and television. People also enjoyed the pool table. I would highly recommend for a family gathering, holiday get together, or even just to get away for the weekend.
The decks around the house are fantastic and spacious, overall great value for the money!
A couple things that could be improved: The place was mostly clean, but we did have to sweep off the cob webs from the lights and ceilings in the car port and porch and it looked like it had been a very long time since the rugs have been cleaned (the kitchen and living spaces in the main house were dust free and nice). There were some dead bugs here and there in the corners. The separate bedroom to the left of the carport was dirtier than the main house, with crackers in the side couch, a couple of roaches, and some dust. The gate at the front has to be closed and locked at all times which made us have to have someone up at the gate letting people in. TV reception is spotty on a cloudy day. Motiff slightly outdated, but appropriate for a rustic lodge.
Our group of 9 got away for two nights at the Hammock House and really enjoyed our trip! Though it rained the entire first day/night at our arrival, exploring the house, the pool table, board games (tucked in the cabinet by the front door), making dinner and the TV kept us busy. Every bedroom has an attached bathroom. (P.S. The 4th bedroom/bathroom is outside - almost like a "mother-in-law suite" - and is connected to the covered carport.) There is a large kitchen and all appliances were clean and functional and there were plenty of pots/pans, baking sheets, utensils, etc. The A/C worked well and kept the house cool. There is a large laundry room with a washer and dryer - came in handy after our afternoon spent at Wekiva Falls (a local RV park that allows day passes and has a big spring to swim in, two water slides, picnic tables, grills, etc.)! The house is decorated in what I would call "old Florida" decor - lots of original wood paneling, a gorgeous stone fireplace, a saddle, boots on the mantle, local wildlife photography, big rocking chairs on the front porch ... the house has lots of character for sure! Our guests enjoyed a canoe ride in the river and we loved visiting with the horses on the property (and maybe feeding them an apple or two). We saw two deer and some wild turkeys on the property, too. Keep in mind our cell service was very spotty once on the property - we had the slightest of signals in one bathroom. The wifi was hit or miss - mostly miss - so be prepared to be pretty unplugged. Just a few miles down the road there are restaurants, a grocery store, etc. so while the property is remote, you are close to plenty of local stores in case you forgot something or just don't want to cook dinner. All in all, we had a great trip!
This is a great location for relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family. The house was very nice, spacious and clean. It was great to be able to walk around the property and frequently see the wildlife. We all enjoyed ourselves and would certainly go back.
Thank you for the hospitality!
We had a great time at the Hammock house. The property is beautiful and nature is abundant! We saw deer and wild turkey every morning, went fishing on the canoes provided, and enjoyed exploring the beautiful property. The house itself was spacious and the kids really enjoyed playing games and billiards. The surrounding area was also wonderful. We really enjoyed exploring the springs, horseback riding at Cactus Jack's and visiting Lake Mary and Mount Dora.
The only shortcomings were that towels and linens were in short supply and the kitchen also lacked bigger pots and pans, if you are staying with a large group. But easily remedied by bringing a few extra towels or blankets and a large stock pot. Also, the 4th bedroom which is across the carport was not properly ventilated and rather musty, which made it unusable since most of our family members suffer from allergies.
Otherwise, it's an awesome place and our family had a wonderful time together!
A beautiful location but once you open the door and take a good look you won't believe the lack of cleanliness, from the dirty oven to the stained carpets, the wall tiles falling off in the shower, cobwebs everywhere, patio furniture that may rip if you sit on it. Brought this to the owners attention,he admitted he fixed things after I emailed and would not refund part of the stay. We will never be back nor recommend ANYONE to stay there!
This resort rental is rural, but 10 minutes from mall, restaurants, movie theaters. 15 minutes from hospital. Bring your own horse or trail riding available within the park. House is riverfront for canoes and fishing.
