In the north of Bali, in the village Mayong, situated in a natural environment, just 10 minutes from the beach, you will find our 'Villa Riang'. 'Riang' means 'happy', the feeling you will get from this beautiful island, the lovely people and the delicious food.
In 2012 our luxury and modern villa has been build. During your stay you will be pampered by our staff members Ria and Bibi. Ria speaks fluently English, together with Bibi she does the cooking, laundry and cleaning. 'Villa Riang' is the perfect place to discover Bali and the Balinese people. Our neighbor Putu can give you a unique journey through the rice-fields. He will tell a lot about the local vegetation and shows you the real life of the Balinese people. Totally different than our stressful lives in 'our western world'.
At ten minutes driving from the villa you will find a bank and a supermarket where you can buy all your daily groceries. You find the nearest beach at just 10 minutes from the villa and the city Lovina is located 30 minutes driving.
We are Robert and Miranda and we love travelling together with our daugther Danique. In 2010 we went to Bali for the first time. Ever since we fell in love with this beautiful island and its lovely people. We visited many places around the world but we didn't get the same feeling like in Bali.
Therefore we decided to build our own home on Bali. This way we can share this magical feeling with others. Our holiday home is known as 'Villa Riang'. It is situated in the village Mayong right next door of our Balinese friends Putu and Ria. It was built in 2012 by local workmen. Putu and Ria were in charge of the build. This way we could support many local families.
Do you want to share this feeling with us? Book your stay in 'Villa Riang'!
Miranda Boender purchased this villa in 2012
In 2010 we went on holiday to Bali for the first time. We rented a lovely villa in the North of Bali. Even before the holiday was over we knew for sure: Next year we are coming back to this beautiful island.
Renting a villa with staff is very common in Bali. Ria was a member of staff at the villa and that is how we met. She cooked and cleaned for us and with her colleague she made sure that the villa was very clean and tidy. Talking to her gave us the feeling like we had known her for years.
We stayed at the same villa in 2011. Luckily Ria still worked there. We also met her husband and children. It may sound strange but in this short period of time we developed a close relationship with Ria and her family.
We talked about our dream of creating our own spot on Bali. As if it was meant to be Ria told us about her dream of managing a villa in the town where she lived. That way she would be able to combine work and family life. Then she mentioned a stretch of land alongside their house. We would be able to build a villa there. It did not take us long to consider. This is what we wanted: Our own place on beautiful Bali!
The construction of our villa started in November 2011. After 9 months of hard work 'Villa Riang' was finished and we are very proud of the result. On the 28th of July 2012 'Villa Riang' was officially consecrated according to Balinese tradition. We attended this ceremony during our first stay in the villa. This was a very special experience for us.
Amazing views from the terrace. Brand new home, away from touristical areas. Private pool, excellent beds, air conditioning. Devoted staff who will make your stay unforgettable!
The villa was the epitome of luxury, set in the hills (literally) of Northern Bali - it is perfect for people wanting to get away from the chaos of South Bali or for people wanting to experience Bali life in a rural setting.
Putu and Ria were absolutely committed to ensuring our stay was perfect, going out of their way to include us in all aspects of their daily life from sharing meals to shopping for fruit at the local stalls, we were treated as part of the family for the duration of our stay.
Ria happily arranged all our activities, which included joining Putu for a trek through the rice fields during which he shared his local knowledge regarding religion, traditional medicine and farming - this in itself is an absolute must do - followed by a sumptuous feast cooked by Ria with so much food we had to tell her to stop cooking!
I can't recommend this place enough! Although it's a little way to the nearest town centre (10 min to Seririt, about 30 min to Lovina) it is just a beautiful area and Ria and Putu are more than happy to arrange transport anywhere at your request - including transfers to and from Ngurah Rai airport.
Stop thinking about it and just book it!!!
We had such a lovely time at Villa Riang! Being so far away from home for the first time was quite the experience for us, yet the wonderful people here made us feel very much at home.
We went on various trips during our stay such as watching dolphins in Lovina, the hot springs in Banjar, Pura Ulun Danu... all so beautiful! Most of the time Okta drove us where we wanted to go. He is a terrific driver and ready to help you with anything.
We also really enjoyed going out on scooter. Driving through the mountains/hills yourself allows you to take in the stunning views this area has to offer.
We stayed here for two weeks during which we made a trip of 3 days to Gili Trawangan. Ria helped us with the arrangements and Okta kindly brought us to Amed and picked us up again after our trip.
If all this weren't enough, the villa and it's location are perfect. Being from the touristic south and staying in this green oasis gave me the feeling I entered a completely different world. The villa is well maintained as it is cleaned daily.
Putu and Ria took us out for dinner a couple of times and we went to Pasar Malam together. Great times I will never forget! Yet, the food nowhere tasted better than here at the villa, cooked by Ria herself.
We will definitely miss all the lovely people here. Ria, warm and helpful. Putu, always smiling and quick with a joke. And their children of course who so easily become friends with anyone.
Terimah Kasih a million times for all you've done for us!
We enjoyed staying in your very beautifully located villa. The staff was very helpful and cooked delicously. We made wonderful tours and also enjoyed staying in the villa to relax, swim and read books. Thank you for staying in your villa!
We stayed at villa Riang for 3 nights. Lot of space inside, very bright, clean and comfortable. Swimming pool a bit cool for Bali but since we are from Northern Europe, it was OK to refresh! Everything was as expected, villa manager Ria was very friendly and ready to help anytime, she provided us excellent service and food. Her husband Putu took us to a field trip, showed us a real local farmers' life and told about various plants and fruits. Our daughter played with 2 little girls of Ria and Putu. So we really enjoyed our stay!
We had a wonderful time staying at Villa Riang. Ria and Okta were superb and looked after us very well.
The villa has everything you need and the views are stunning.
We really enjoyed being by the pool and listening to the sounds in the forest.
Ria's cooking was excellent and we had some memorable meals. We also had a couple of evenings out, with the family which we enjoyed, as we felt we learnt a lot about balinese life and the family. The children are delightful.
Putu's trek is fantastic : interesting and informative. The lunch afterwards was delicious.
Our holiday was very relaxing and was worth the journey from the airport.
We loved the peace and quiet and would like to return to Villa Riang. The only thing we would change, is we would stay for much longer!
It was all five star!
Thank you also to Miranda and Robert who communicated well with me, which was the deciding point for me booking the villa.
This villa is exactly as described!! The view is amazing! Ria, Putu and Okta make you feel right at home! Putu's trekking tour is a must! You will learn so much of their culture and beliefs! Ria's cooking is amazing....you can't help but enjoy! Okta is such a pleasant young man...willing to help in whatever way he can. Everyone is so helpful in helping you organize tours or whatever your needs are! This villa is such a welcome place away from the busy south! I would highly recommend for anyone going to Bali to stay here!!!
We spent 2 beautiful months at Villa Riang, in Northern Bali. We were seeking a Villa set in the Bali countryside away from the frenetic pace of the more touristy areas. We found exactly that!! Villa Riang is situated with plumeria branches draping over the edge of the pool, a small garden of flowers blooming in perfusion leading to a little gazebo that encourages a nap. Looking out over the landscape we were surrounded by green,, thick jungle, a river running in the bottom and the songs of many birds.
The pictures online were accurate, both in layout and amenities. The Villa was spotlessly clean and was maintained that way through our entire stay. It was lovely to have a full sized fridge to put groceries in. A water cooler was also provided, and we therefore had safe, clean drinking water available.
Putuh and Ria and their family were wonderful hosts. We had scooters available to us to use for our own touring and daily plans. When the distances were to great to plan to travel by scooter, Ria, always arranged travel by minivan with a responsible driver. We also had the pleasure of joining Putuh and Ria and their family on outings. This personal type of service is not possible when staying in a a hotel. Ria also cooked most of our meals. What a treat that was!! Ria is a wonderful cook and we savoured each meal she prepared for us.
We stayed for 2 months, and had the pleasure of both friends and family joining us. We would definitely recommend Villa Riang to our family and friends. Putuh and Ria speak English and we did not have any difficulty communicating.
We loved the chance to snorkel off Menjanggan Island and made that trip 3 times! We had the chance to visit Hindu Temples with Putuh and Ria, who provided explanations of their culture and religious ceremonies. We also climbed Mount Batur, an active volcanic mountain. This trek is not for the faint of heart, but I was very proud to accomplish this! We really enjoyed the Botanical Gardens (Kebun Raya) - it was a lovely place to spend the day, only further enhanced by the picnic Ria prepared and that we shared with their family. The Munduk Waterfall was quite close and the easiest to get to. Putuh also organizes and guides treks through the countryside where you see rural Bali and are given insights into daily life. Restaurants at Lovina Beach are worth visiting as well as at the Harbour in Singaraja.
We would highly recommend Villa Riang.
