About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

The recently restored historic Washington Melson House, located at 206 Locust St. is a 2 bedroom vacation cottage that is a short walk from all museums, parks, restaurants, churches and shops in St. Michaels!

The house was built around 1840 by Washington Melson, a sailor, believed to be one of two individuals who voted for Abraham Lincoln in the presidential election of 1860. The house was originally built at only 16 feet wide but enlarged to the current width soon thereafter.

The first floor of the original portion of the Melson House includes a living room and a dining room. To the rear of the original house on the first floor is a kitchen area which opens up by French doors to an outdoor patio. Also connected to the kitchen is a large family room with a queen sleep sofa. There is a half bath off the family room.

The second floor of the original portion of the Melson house is a large bedroom having two twin beds. The second floor to the rear of the house (accessed by a different staircase than that in the original portion), contains the master bedroom having a queen size bed. There is a full bathroom off this bedroom.

Comfortable and great location!

  • 5 of 5

Great historic home walking distance to shops, waterfront and restaurants! Beds were comfy, home was very clean. Owner was accessible and super friendly when we called looking for the current wifi password and the extra towels. We stayed for the running festival and brought our 2 kids and dog. The location was 2 blocks away from the finish line which is a godsend after running 13.1 miles! If you enjoy historic homes with some modern amenities this home is for you. Sofa and soft chairs are a bit understuffed. We ate out during our stay so can’t vouch for the cooking utensils and supplies but there seemed to be everything most would need. Be sure to check out the photo album of what the owner did to restore the home...amazing!!

The location of this property could not have been better! Quiet location but was within walking distance to everything. Owner let us get in early and offered us a later checkout.

Very nice historical cottage

  • 5 of 5

Location is perfect, walk to marina, museum, shops in town. If you want to enjoy St Michaels this is the perfect spot to do it from.

The cottage is nicely furnished and has a wonderful feel for an 1840s place.

The sofa in the living room is a bit understuffed and dusty but otherwise it's mostly a beautiful set of wood furniture and furnishings very nicely done.

historic cottage modern amenities

  • 4 of 5

You will love staying in this charming historic cottage in St Michaels. The American flag over the door is a welcome greeting. The kitchen is modern and even knives are sharp! There is a large pot for steaming crabs. The .first floor is spacious and furnished in rustic colonial style. Upstairs the ceilings are low.The beds are comfortable . Outside the kitchen entrance is a brick patio with a table and chairs. It is the perfect place for a glass of wine when the sun sets over the yardarms of the boats across the street in the pretty harbor.
