About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 bathroom converted barn with unique artworks and stone fireplace

Set on a rural road with the occasional farm, and convenient to Jeffersonville and Livingston Manor, The Barn is the creation of a successful artist, and as such, is a kind of work in and of itself. The owner’s creative flair really permeates every corner of this comfortable, eclectic home, with tastefully-presented collections and acquisitions that do make you want to pause and take in each item. From noirish black and white photos and a great book collection to occasional bursts of color and fun textiles of the owner’s design, there is a lot to enjoy here, without it being overwhelming. (Given that many objects are low to the ground, and paired with the spiral staircase, this property is not recommended for small children.)

The stone fireplace, which extends 25 feet through the upstairs catwalk, naturally divides the large downstairs space into distinct “rooms”: The lounge, a cozy, intimate spot for watching TV or getting into lengthy discussions; the modern kitchen, which has a lot of open shelving, helpful when locating dishes/glassware; the dining area, which has a view out to the deck and the lawns beyond; a piano for entertaining your house guests with a little tune, perhaps; and of course the area around this imposing fireplace. (The owner’s office area will be closed off.)

Up the spiral stairs to the “catwalk”, off which are three cheerful bedrooms, all with queen-size beds, and a sleek full bathroom with jacuzzi tub/shower. The second full bath is downstairs and has a shower. The washer/dryer is in that room as well.

The grounds are as lush and inviting as the interior is stylish. And the well-furnished deck, with space for dining and lounging, provides an appealing vantage point for taking it all in. At the further reaches of the lawns is a pretty pond, which provides a whole other facet to the property.

Fall family reunion at The Barn

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Barn with my wife and daughter for a week in early October. It was our first trip to the Catskils/Hudson Valley area. We really didn't have a preference regarding the location of our stay, but we were drawn to the pictures of The Barn, and having great interest and appreciation for old buildings and barns we decided to give it a try. The property was actually better than the pictures once arrived and were able to take it all in. The Barn is a few hundred feet from the road, but its extremely quiet and the land surrounding the Barn is private and well designed and maintained. There's a large, nicely appointed deck with a grill, and there is a hammock and tree swing that invites you to engage with the property from different points of view. The interior of the Barn was exactly as pictured. There is a balance of rustic, exposed structure and the white/black color scheme that allows the walls of the space to function as a gallery. The interior design is well thought out and the space is thoroughly curated. We found ourselves curious about everything displayed. it was like staying in an exhibit, but from a practicality standpoint the space functions perfectly, and is actually quite comfortable and relaxing.

Our Daughter is 3 years old, and we knew from the pictures that there is a spiral staircase that serves the second floor bedrooms, and clearly there would be potentially fragile objects within her reach. We were there for 7 nights without any real concerns or incidents. We didn't expect the space to be child-proof and were extra attentive with here. It turned out that our daughter was extremely interested in the displayed items. Being under three feet tall she had a unique perspective and spent a lot of time pointing things out to us that we hadn't yet noticed.

There is wifi, and wireless speakers that serve the interior and exterior of the space. There is Netflix, Hulu, and cable. There is a lot to explore if you leave the house. We drove to many of the surrounding towns, but we probably barely scratched the surface. We appreciated the publications from the owner that referenced the Barn, and also mentioned some places to eat and shop nearby. It was really much more than we expected, and we think the price is extremely reasonable for the product.

Unique and Peaceful Escape from the City

  • 5 of 5

Let me first start off by saying that from start to finish, the management company conducted themselves exactly what any company providing a service such as there's should strive to achieve. The person that assisted me was so refreshingly professional and accommodating through the whole process. Can't thank her enough.

As for the property...VERY well maintained, open concept, airy, and sooo quiet. My wife and I live in the city and require an escape in order to maintain our sanity every couple of months. This place was exactly what we needed. No, the entire place wasn't air conditioned, but it didn't need to be. What most people fail to realize when staying in an older build, is that A/C wasn't always available and houses were built instead for cross ventilation to keep it cool. Even the materials used for construction are much more efficient in holding a consistent temp. We were up there this past weekend (4th of July) and it was HOT outside (90-100 degree w/ high humidity.) Unusually hot for the Catskills, actually. All we had to do was open the windows, which all had screens and it cooled right down. The master bedroom does have A/C, so the listing is not inaccurate in stating it has A/C.

The decor is very eccentric. You definitely get the impression that an artist put his heart & soul into this place. My wife and I actually felt like we were in a museum and ended up spending a couple hours just gazing at all the art and collectibles he has showcased around so well. From the beautiful floors to the fur throws to the furniture, there is definitely a sense of comfort and home, even with how different the overall decor was, which I feel is something that must have taken a lot of thought to achieve. The kitchen is amazing. If you are like us and live in the city, you know how tiny Manhattan kitchens are. Not here! We had so much space, we didn't know what to do with it all. Big stove, lots of counter space, and a massive fridge. There were two grills on the deck. One gas, one charcoal. I prefer the charcoal grill. It just adds a better flavor to whatever you may be barbecuing, in my opinion. And the deck...our main spot of relaxation. Nice view of the open yard, and hours upon hours of sounds of nature. All in all, everything was just what we needed to enjoy our quiet 4th of July weekend. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful home and yard! Lots of amenities. Nice owner.

This house is NOT air conditioned as listed! One bedroom has a window a/c unit for that one bedroom only.Unresponsive property manager. Left this property a day early due to this. This place would have gotten 5 stars if it had A/C as promised (and paid for) and a property manager who was responsive. Property manager did not offer to reimburse for the night we didn't use (due to their inaccurate listing information).
