Come and enjoy this, our 2nd home. This is a spacious house with a lake view on a quiet cove. The great room has a gas fireplace. Overlooking the great room is an L shaped game deck with pool table and air hockey games. The game deck is spacious. Out from the great room is the social hall overlooked by a balcony from the game deck. The social hall has a bar and comfortable couch and chairs. All walls exhibit windows not only allowing views into the great room but also the cove and the main Old Hickory Lake. Five bedrooms accommodate 4 queen size beds and 1 full size bed. Two additional queen beds are available. All bedding and linens are furnished. The bathroom is off the great room and has a whirlpool bathtub. A spiraling stairway goes from the game deck down past the great room and into the theater room. A large 96' screen with projection TV and surround sound offer entertainment from cable TV or any movies of your own that you might bring. Wi-Fi is free. Seating is accomplished with 12 reclining chairs situated on a tiered floor. A sub-woofer under the tiered floor bring movie sound to life as the floor vibrates with dramatic scenes. There are 2 bedrooms and a bath room off the theater area. Full laundry facilities are on this level. Outside the cabin is a large deck that continues completely around the cabin. Table and chairs and gas grill make cooking and eating outside a great event. A concrete parking area is large and great for parking a motor home. I wish to introduce myself to you. My name is David Edsall. My wife, Joan, and I built this cabin in 1983 as a 2nd residence. I founded some very popular central Tennessee weekly publications in 1971. In 1995 I sold this business but retained this, our 2nd residence. I currently live in Indianapolis however I still have grandchildren (all grown up) living in the Nashville area. The operation of this vacation home is now a family affair. We are all Christian people and would like to share this property with anyone who will respect it and our neighbors as we do. A member of my family will greet you on your arrival and see that you are comfortable and all your questions answered. If any problems should arise during your stay, we are just a phone call away and will respond immediately. I hope you enjoy our home as much as we do.
David Edsall purchased this cabin in 1983
When we first came to the Nashville area we lived on our houseboat. We have always been boating people. Soon we needed a facility to help us be more relaxed and to accommodate our key employees for special events and as a perk for a job well done. We loved the water, so the Cumberland River, that flows past the cabin, was perfect when we wanted to take vacations by water. From this cabin the world was our oyster. Going upstream we would come to the beginning of the river; about 200 miles away. Going downstream we would come to the Ohio River and then the Mississippi River then the Gulf of Mexico then the Atlantic Ocean; well you get the picture. Come share the adventure of our cabin, our hospitality and our quiet surroundings. Unfortunately we cannot allow access to the lake or the boat dock from this property due to an Army Corp of Engineers ruling. However, the view is great.
The Cabin is designed for family and friends use in mind. It is sectioned off so groups of family or friends can make their own gathering within the main gathering but still within eye sight of the others. After the days activities everyone can retire to the privacy of a bedroom. Some may choose the bonus room where even sleeping is fun.
It was a nice place for a large family weekend getaway. The interior of the house was unique with nice wood finish, although not a very modern look, had a welcoming, warm feel. The high ceilings in the living room and back room were nice and made it feel fun. The view out the back towards the lake was enjoyable.
The sleeping area above the garage worked very well for us. The adults that wanted to sleep in a little later weren't disturbed by the kids waking up early. It was magical for the kids to have their own "room" with the curtain partitions.
No yard to play in, but the street was quiet, and we were able to take walks.
The spiral staircases going up the stairs to the air hockey and billiard tables added to house's unique qualities. The air hockey and pool tables were one of the highlights for the kids. The stairs had a gate which made us rest easier with the young children running around. They do have an entrance to the bottom floor, which made it much more convenient to bring luggage in and out - the spiral staircase proved to be challenging in that regard!
Most of our food was prepped beforehand, which was incredibly helpful. The kitchen is smaller, and doing meals entirely from scratch for 20 people would have been a little challenging.
We were disappointed to have not been greeted upon arrival so that we could have had someone to let us into the house. We had to wait outside, locked out, for about 30 minutes before we were able to acquire the code we needed to access the house. We had tried to get in touch with the contacts provided beforehand (as instructed in our letter we received before coming) but no one had returned our calls. We arrived on time and were expecting that someone would be there with instructions on how to operate the home theater system and also to know where the extra silverware, paper towels, hand soap, and dishes were located.
The downstairs bathroom has to be handled with care. There's a sign indicating how to flush the toilet properly to prevent it from clogging, which was negative to us.
Overall, everyone enjoyed their weekend getaway. We played games, visited, ate wonderful food, relaxed, and spent some quality time together, without ever feeling like there wasn't enough space for all 20 of us. The bedrooms are on the small side, but we weren't spending much time in them. There were nice blow up queen-size mattresses to offer extra sleeping space, and the above-garage room was huge.
Alot bigger than it looks..... very nice. Definitely enough room for 3 people. Would be nice for a big family reunion or big group of friends. A little far away from everything but nothing too bad. Grab all your groceries before heading out there. Nearest store (walmart) is about 20 min or so. Definitely recommend this rental.
Great house for our purposes! However, we were not able to access the lake and that was disappointing. Being able to fish and be near the water would have been better. Overall, it was a lot of fun.
Our family reunion of 19 adults including teenagers and 4 children over the Christmas holiday was a huge success because of the cabin's many great features. The air hockey and pool table in the games room was a hit with the teenagers, the downstairs theater was great for viewing Christmas Day sporting events, and the large windows in the sitting room made a relaxing area for the octogenarians to sit and overlook the lake with all the birds and turtles. We had 2 days where no one even left the premises, and that's saying a lot for that many people.
The owner and his family were very responsive to any requests or concerns which added to the success of our stay. Everyone left with the feeling that a good time was had by all. Thank you!
We had a great experience staying at this property in Nashville. It had plenty of room for all 30 of us. Excellent space for games and conversation. Lovely neighborhood to take a morning stroll in. It got a little chilly and I called and left a message for the owner and within 20 minutes had a response and the problem was solved. I would highly recommend this property for family fun.
The property was perfect for our needs, which was a group of 20 family and friends that were in town to see Nashville and the Packers-Titans game. We rented the house as well as the loft above the garage. The house was nice and functional and the loft above the garage has a lot of sleeping space. The sleeping areas worked well with our group as we had a mix of older and younger people. The older people (40+) stayed in the house in the 5 bedrooms, and the younger crowd (teens, 20's and 30's) stayed in the loft. The beds in the loft might not be preferred by an older crowd.
Overall the stay went very well, but I rated the house as 4 stars instead of 5 for several reasons:
- The spiral staircases that go to the loft in the house and to the basement theater room and very difficult to navigate for those that are not very agile or if they are large. You can get to the 2 basement bedrooms and theater room from the outside, but that being said, you need to go outside.
- The heat is controlled remotely, which we did not know at first. The house got uncomfortably cold and I needed to send a text message to get the heat turned up. I did not figure this out until the next morning, so our first night was a bit chilly.
- There were not many towels for showers when you consider how many people the house can hold. We seemed to run short on towels early into our stay.
- If you plan to cook for a large group, you might find the kitchen a little on the small side. We had a couple group meals, but otherwise we ate at restaurants, so it was not a big deal to us.
I offer my comments not as criticism, because our group had a great time. I offer them so other potential renters are aware. All things considered, given the price per night it was a complete success. If the situation repeated itself, we would stay here again.
Nashville is the music capital of the world. From the cabin you are 30 minutes or less from about everything. Opry Mills is a world class shopping mall. The Grand Ole Opry for country music entertainment and the country music's STAR gazing. Next door is The Opryland Hotel. This is a must visit if only to see the amazing Atriums. Music row for unique nightlife adventures may be something you like.
