About Michele Vaughn

We are an active family and enjoy using our mountain retreat for all the activities that exist in the Big Bear Valley. We never run out of places to explore and adventures share, which made Big Bear Lake the perfect location for us to buy a vacation home of our own. One day, we’d like to retire up here – until then, we’re content to try to keep up with our kids! There are endless options of things to do and see here, all under the glorious California sunshine. We hope that you’ll enjoy all that The Lake House at the Shores of Big Bear Lake has to offer!

Michele Vaughn purchased this house in 2013

Why Michele Vaughn chose Big Bear

For years I admired this home with its lake views, excellent location and vintage cottage charm and I dreamed of one day owning it. So when the property went up for sale, we decided to buy it. Our family loves nature and playing outdoors! That's one of the main reasons we chose to buy our vacation home in the city of Big Bear Lake. Due to our work schedules we needed to have a place that our family could escape to within a couple of hours. Big Bear is just a short (and easy) 2 hour drive from our home in Orange County, and only slightly longer for our extended family and friends in Los Angeles and San Diego Counties. Access up the mountain is easy with 3 highways leading up the mountain and right in to the city of Big Bear Lake. Drive time is an important factor when you want to ski and travel on the same day.

Big Bear truly is a 4 season resort area with so much to do year round. We love being centrally located to so many fun activities in every season -- awesome mountain & trail biking throughout Big Bear Valley, hiking & wildlife viewing, fishing & boating on Big Bear Lake and of course great snowboarding & skiing at Snow Summit and Bear Mountain.

What makes this house unique

The Lake House at the Shores of Big Bear Lake has been a wonderful vacation home in so many ways. After purchasing the home in (2013) we remodeled our home with the idea of hosting large groups of friends and families. At that time almost everything was replaced and upgraded. Our great mountain home, can easily house up to 14 people. The home is unique in that the massive front deck can easily accommodate 14 or more at the patio tables and an additional 6 at the dining table while enjoying the a lake view. Having multiple entertaining areas house allows for large groups to relax together while still having their own space.

The little kids can sled in the backyard on our own small private bunny hill. Experience the large 40 x 30 private deck, grill and hot tub while enjoying the starry night sky. Relax in the Family room with the giant fireplace and your favorite book. Prepare a hearty meal for friends and family in the modern kitchen. End the evening with a game pool in the Sleeping Loft or cuddle up and watch a movie.

Our home is located in the prestigious lakeside community of Gibraltar Point, a quiet residential community. The streets are flat and maintained by the city so during periods of heavy snow our property is still easily accessible. When more than a couple inches of snow falls, our plow service will clear the driveway for you. In the Winter, there is no parking on the city streets but we have a very large, driveway that fits 6 cars.

The lake is directly across the street and in the Summer our renters have access to a boat slip at a small additional fee. Big Bear Lake is a public lake that is 7 miles long and has 21 miles of shoreline.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is probably the best home I have vacationed in; it is truly a beautiful piece of property. We live at the Beach and this was by far superior. This is across from the lake, there are hiking trails and a short drive to both ski resorts (Snow Summit & Bear Mountain). The beds are fantastic, there is a mini-pool table, games and a Hot tub. It is like being at your friends home, nothing like a typical rental. Free access to the internet on the WIFI, many cable movies and games. There was absolutely nothing missing, it is truly set up for 10-14 people, nothing missing. Have a wonderful time!!

In the winter our home is so cozy you may not want to leave the house. However, if you choose to venture outside the local ski lifts are just a couple minutes away. Beautiful surroundings, lovely home, perfect for an enjoyable stay.

  • 5 of 5

We throughly enjoyed our time at the Lake Hoyse. We had such a wonderful time relaxing, playing, chatting, enjoying our children and grandchildren.

Everything was fantastic. Little things made such a difference like the high chair, pack and play, sippy cups and toddler cutlery. We enjoyed the different board games. We spent quality time playing games and laughing at the silly game banter. The deck is perfect for BBQs and relaxing. All the amenities were great.

The Lake House is perfect for making memories.

We look forward to spending time here again.

Very comfortable and plenty of room for eveyone

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at The Lake House, there was 13 of us and there was plenty of room for us all, the roll away beds came in very handy. Everything was clean and in working order. The living room had enough seating for everyone and plenty of room to even play charades. We played games, watched movies and had a really nice relaxing weekend. The lake is right across the road, we went for long nature walks. My daughter who loves photography got lots of great pictures. The beds were very comfortable and plenty of sheets and towels. I loved the jacuzzi on the deck, it started snowing when we were out there! Very large deck with great view of the lake. I would definitely stay here again.

Adorable Cabin Across from the Lake

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at The Lake House. When we arrived the house was warm and inviting and the location was great. The street was flat, easily accessable and close to the village. The cabin had a great view of the lake all covered in snow. The kitchen is well stocked and there is two family gathering areas. We skied and played in the backyard snow. Everyone had a great time and wants to come back in the summer. You can tell the owners love this house!

Perfect Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I stayed at the property this past weekend and we couldn't have asked for anything better. We had a group of about 12 people, and the nice big couch in the living room made it perfect for all of us to gather and hang out in one area. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed, and the Jacuzzi was just the perfect touch. We are hoping to plan a summer trip and come back and stay at this property since it is so close to the lake!

Winter Wonderland

  • 4 of 5

We lucked out with the weather & got a fresh dusting of snow on New Year's eve. It was beautiful to watch from any of the windows in the house. The snow amassed on the large deck and on the limbs of the trees surrounding us. Our new year's eve was definitely post card worthy!

The owner has a plow that maintained the driveway and gave us clear access to the road before 6 am. The only difficulty we had is that during the winter, there are a lot of stairs to get up to the home. When it is icy in the mornings and night, it is difficult to safely carry personal belongings in and out of the house. We all just moved slowly and were careful to hold on to the railings.

We enjoyed the spa and building a double Jenga tower with the provided games. Traffic was terrible to & from the ski resort, but it was a holiday weekend with fresh powder gracing the slopes, so I suppose that was expected. If we had one more day or had we not skied, we could have easily had time to walk into the village and shop. It would have been an easy walk.

We found it difficult, though not impossible, to build a fire in the fireplace. Upon arrival, there was plenty of wood, but there was no kindling or newspaper, so we just relied on the heater which worked great! The upstairs bath has central heat, but the rooms do not. I liked that ... they each have there own space heater, which allowed us to better regulate the room temperature. We were always comfortable.

We felt real comfortable in the house. We were able to dry out wet clothes in the top of the line dryer and we really enjoyed the spa and generous quantities of towels. The owner's supply a lot of paper products including tissue which is vital in the winter, thank you! It was a great house and we all had a lot of fun. However, if you have any issues with stairs, this is likely not the house for you.

Owner's Response: Hi Christine, I'm glad to hear that you and your family got to experience the joy of a winter wonderland at The Lake House--Family vacations are great but snow makes them magical! Also, I really appreciate you letting me know about the slippery steps. We just had those replaced right before your arrival and after reading your comments we ordered a special non-slip adaptors to have installed on each step. Again thank you for staying with us and I hope you will be coming back to see us again soon! Sincerely, Michele

Family trip was a success thanks to The Lake House

  • 5 of 5

EVERYONE had such a great time. Michele was amazing, called before our stay to introduce herself. The house has just about EVERYTHING you need! They decorated the home with Christmas lights and a Tree, (we were surprised) we thought we were spending Christmas without a tree since we were away from home. They really made it feel like home. The hill driveway was amazing for us to slide down, and they had 2 sleds there for us, which was awesome. The home was very spacious! We had no complaints at all. Very close to all the stores, restaurants (Pizza place is a must try) and snow summit, (literally 15-20min walking distance, 5 min drive). The Lake is right ACROSS the street! We really loved this home and we are already planning trip #2!! Maybe in the summer this time, even though we LOVED the snow!!!

Everything was just, if not better than described, pictures do no justice. So beautiful in person.

Thank you very much Michele and Family. You were good to us.
