I grew up in the Southeast United States. I finished High School and College in Pensacola, Florida. I spent four years in the Marines as a crewmember in the F4, Phantom, aircraft.
I am retired from Chevron Phillips Chemical Company. My last position was a Computer Systems Analyst, mainly working on WEB applications.
After retiring, my wife and I moved to Upstate South Carolina. Since that time, I have spent most of my time building our rental cabin.
Don Murray purchased this cabin in 2007
After retiring, my wife and I were looking for a place to build in the local area. After being shown this lot, I was hooked. I called my wife and told her that I must have died and gone to heaven.
The solitude and privacy is wonderful... and it is truly a wilderness setting. You can hear the creek at the bottom of the hill making little tinkling noises.
Nice and quiet getaway. Everything clean and well functioning. Beds comfortable though a bit smaller than we are used to. TV reception very good, with multiple channels, even being on an antenna. Don goes the extra mile and surprised us with milk, cereal, eggs and a few other staples, which was a good thing as once we reached the cabin, my husband would not leave. The driveway, though well maintained (dirt, course gravel and some concrete pads), is not for all vehicles. We have an Altima, and it scraped bottom several times going up, and I mean almost straight up! Glad we made it though as it turned out to be a relaxing time away from the hecticness of life.
My husband and I celebrated our 9th anniversary here and we can't say enough good things about this place! We felt at home in the cabin and really enjoyed relaxing on the porch while taking in the view of the woods, especially in the mornings with coffee.. It is a hidden gem and you do feel secluded. The owner was very helpful and the cabin was equipped with delicious breakfast foods (oatmeal, cereal, waffle/pancake mix, muffins, butter, , eggs) as well as lots of other common cooking items. I highly recommend trying out the waffle maker. Well stocked kitchen with the essentials. We used the grill as well and enjoyed that. The cabin also had a lot of toiletry items which was helpful because I accidentally left my toiletry bag at home and didn't have to replace too many things. There is a Bluetooth player in the living area that I was able to hook my phone up to and listen to a local Asheville station which played mostly bluegrass which we enjoyed immensely. We went to Table Rock park one day (5 min away)and hiked the foothills trail. We're going to go kayaking at Devils Fork the next day but honestly just enjoyed relaxing so much at the cabin that we didn't do that. Went into Greenville one night (30-40 min away) to meet friends and ate at The Trappe Door (very good). We had a great time and can't wait to come back!!!!!
It is a lovely cabin, perfect for small group or single family. The owner is very kind and prepared everything you need. The whole cabin is spotless, smells fresh all the time. It gives warm feelings, like you are home. We all enjoyed it very much. Best cabin I've ever stay, will definitely come back when visited in the area next time !!!
I loved the cabin, simple, cozy, super clean and friendly. Be sure you have a good car to climb the slope. Or talk with the very firendly owner about that last part of the road. It is absolutly worth, you will arrive to a peaceful forest cabin. Home out of your home, everything works you can spend days and days or just one night. I went with my two adults kids and they really enjoyed.
Do not miss this one
Cabin was very much set in a private secluded area atop a ridge. Driveway is steep, but for my VW Jetta it was not a problem given that the owner has placed concrete pads at the steepest points. The cabin was clean and well equipped with all that was needed for our week long stay. To our surprise the owner did some stocking of various breakfast food items which was thoughtful and greatly appreciated.
Inside the cabin, Mr. Murray left various pamphlets for activities and sights to see in the area, and that was one thing we used everyday. Seeing the numerous waterfalls and hiking and various trails was just the getaway my wife and I needed and this cabin is located in the perfect spot to enjoy it all. Not one thing we did was ever considered to far away to enjoy.
Our list of places visited: Jones Gap State Park (hiking and waterfalls), Table Rock (hiking and waterfalls), Caesars Head State Park (unbelievable view from mountain top), Whitewater Falls located just overstate line in NC (wonderful view), Devils Fork State Park on Lake Jocassee (kayaking, waterfalls, hiking & swimming in crystal clear water) & Sassafras Mountain (highest point in SC and another unbelievable view of 4 states all from one spot). These are only a few of the locations in the area and coupled with the seclusion of the cabin made it well worth our weeklong stay.
Well placed Mr. Murray, you for sure have that "Hidden Gem" as described in you listing. We could not have asked for anything more and what you provided was more than appreciated. I would for sure recommend this cabin to others seeking the private getaway just to just sit on the deck and enjoy the sounds of nature or to get out and explorer the area. Well worth my money and time to enjoy something a hotel could never give me.
Thank you Mr. Murray for giving my wife and I the refreshing getaway we needed.
Until we meet again, stay safe, stay well and be Blessed.
