Why Steve & Gina chose Ohio

This Lake is The Only Non-Man Made Lake in The Portage Lakes. Its As Natural As it Gets. There Are 5 Lakes to Portage But...Long Lake is Natures Way Of Saying Good Morning ! Portage Lakes lies at one of the highest points of the state and on a major watershed divide in Ohio. Some water from the lakes reaches Lake Erie and some flows to the Ohio River. The area became an important trading post for settlers and Indians. It was a recognized landmark during the War of 1812, serving as a rendezvous point of American troops. The old Indian portage path was part of the ancient boundary between the Six Nations and the Western Indians The Portage Lakes have many species swimming in their

waters. Largemouth Bass, Walleye, Black and White

Crappie, Muskellunge, Eastern Chain Pickerel, Bluegill,

Redear Sunfish, Pumpkinseed, Rainbow Trout, Warmouth

Bass, Yellow Perch, Channel Catfish, Bullhead, Sucker,

and Carp are all found here. Muskellunge are generally

found in North Reservoir, while the Pickerel are located

in Long Lake. Saugeye are stocked in all lakes.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

As You Wake Up in The Morning & The Sun is Rising Over the Lake Facing You. The Colors, The Smell Of Fresh Air, (Remember That)... Since There is No Heavy Traffic Near By, Swans & Ducks Are Gonna Be the Only Sounds While Blue Heron Fly By. While You Do Have a Couple Of Neighbors Near By...It Still Remains Private & Secluded.

Our stay was brief, but very pleasant. We really enjoyed the deck, all of us, including our dog companion!

Could have been better

  • 3 of 5

While we did enjoy the home, we didn't enjoy Steve's attitude. I was in town with my sister to visit what is left of our family. When some of our cousins came over, hadn't seen them in decades, Steve got a bit upset that unfortunately they each came in separate cars. Rather than working with me to take advantage of the "ample" parking, he pretty but threatened to ask us to leave. Not wanting to have to find alternate lodging, sent everyone home. Might have been a different outcome had Gina been there as he stated she usually deals with the rental but she was dealing with a family issue. We wouldn't think of putting Steve out again so wont be back.

Owner's Response: Mr. Dooley arrived at 4 pm that afternoon and after speaking with him, he let me know a couple people would be stopping by. To quote him it was gonna be 4-5 people, which is fine cause I explained to him at that very moment that I do not allow my Home to be use for Large gatherings or family reunions and told him about it happening before and asked them to leave cause of it. Mr. Dooley and his sister informed me that they were to old for all that and that wont be a problem. Literally had that conversation at 4 pm... At 5:15 pm my phone rings and its one of the neighbors of this rental home informing me that the person at the rental have people parking in his yard. I tried to call Mr. Dooley 3 times with no answer. My phone rings again and its another neighbor letting me know there is a car in his driveway. Now mind you I have parking for at least 8 cars. I called Mr. Dooley again and when he answered he informed me he was not aware of where people were parking, which I explained its your responsibility what your guest are doing. Please tell your guest not to park on the neighbors property. 30 minutes later got another call that a upset neighbor informed me if the cars are not removed off his Yard he would have them removed. At this point I decided to look at the situation myself. At my surprise there must of been 12-15 vehicles and just as many people if not more as half of them holding some type of booze. There is not one person on the planet who would not be a little upset that someone turned their home into a frat house in less than an hour after their arrival. After apologizing to my neighbors I informed the to old to party Mr. Dooley that his guest had to remove their vehicles off the neighbors property and I do not appreciate his actions. I said to him I just had a conversation with you a short while ago about this very situation from happening. Mr. Dooley said he did not know they were coming but...They all had the address and showed up within an hour so everybody can do the math. I respect my guest privacy but have to consider the neighbors too. So we get this wonderful review as to he does not want to put me out, but thats exactly what he did and all the neighbors to. Mr. Dooley had no respect for our home nor did he have any for the neighbors and I would not want him to stay at our place again. PS. Threatening is not being truthful explaining my conversation with Mr. Dooley. He got caught trying to take advantage of the rules , end of story.

A Great Place for a Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This house is charming. The kitchen was well stocked and spacious. The deck overlooking the lake was a perfect place to sit. The house was clean and everything was functional. We rented this house due to it's proximity to local wineries. There are plenty of restaurants close by if you don't feel like cooking. Steve was great to work with.

A real gem!

  • 5 of 5

We spent two nights and two days at Steve and Gina's Lake House and we couldn't have been more happy with the stay.

The house: It's clean, net and has plenty of space and all the kitchen stuff needed, just bring your own food and beverages. We grilled on their grill, built a fire in their huge lakeside backyard and enjoyed the private outdoor deck.

The location: Great! I mean, what a spot!!! It's nestled on this secluded hidden drive that is so close to Akron and Cuyahoga, Canton and Cleveland. It's on a GREAT LAKE! Can't say enough good things.

Hosts: Gina and Steve were excellent hosts. We hung out by the fire our first night, great time.

Highly Recommended

Peaceful & Comfortable Nice Home

  • 5 of 5

We are pleasantly surprised and very happy with this home. Beautiful view of the lake with Dock access. Gorgeous landscaping! Beds are comfortable and the houses rather large. Kitchen has all the utensils that you would need. We definitely recommend staying here. Close to everything stores, kayaking, the lakes and restaurants. The owners have jet skis right here on the property for you to rent any time. Steve & Gina are good hosts!
