Villa Alfieri with gourmet kitchen, courtyard, pergola and daily cleaning

Bedrooms 5
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

5 Bedrooms, 5.0 Bathrooms, 10 Sleeps

If youve come to Italy for the views, look no further than Villa Alfieri. The restored stone country house has gorgeous views of the Tuscan countryside and medieval city of Siena, and plenty of outdoor space from which to admire them, from a shaded pergola to a lawn around the pool. Inside, magazine-worthy decor creates a refined yet comfortable ambience.

The U-shaped villa surrounds a central courtyard, but the manicured garden beyond also beckons. Start the day with an espresso under the pergola, then move to the pool to take a dip or just relax on a lounger and listen to the waterfall. End with a glass of wine on the second-floor loggia and a movie via satellite TV or Wi-Fi; theres even air conditioning to keep you comfortable all night.

The interiors combine striking contemporary design, like the sleek white stucco fireplace in the spacious living, with the best of classic Tuscan style, like stone walls and vaulted brick ceilings in one of the two dining rooms. The fully equipped kitchen pairs the rustic charm of beamed ceilings and sage green accents with modern touches like stone countertops.

Each ofVilla Alfieri'sfive airy bedrooms has its own marble bathroom. The master suite has a king bed and two bathrooms: one with shower and one with tub. Two more bedrooms also have king beds and en-suite bathrooms; one has a walk-in closet as well. The remaining two bedrooms each have a queen bed, and one has an en-suite bathroom while the other has a private bathroom. For families traveling with children, an additional bedroom can be set up with two twin beds and a shared bathroom.

A daily continental breakfast is included in the rental, but if youre curious about regional specialties, you can request a dinner prepared by a local cook. Work off the Tuscan cuisine at the tennis court, a 15 minute drive away, or the golf course and riding stables, a 30 minute drive away. Explore the gardens of the Villa di Geggiano, the estate to whichVilla Alfierionce belonged, and dont miss a nearby 14th century convent. Plus, Siena is just twenty minutes away by car, and the Florence airport only 60 miles away.

Additional Information

Villa Alfierihas been featured in famous Italian interior design magazines such as Casa Vogue, Case di Campagna, and La Cascina Toscana. Its spectacular views are among the best in the region. Among the great servicesVilla Alfieri has to offer, guests can enjoy typical Tuscan cuisine prepared by a local cook. Due to its locationVilla Alfieri is blessed with a breeze from the north, and the house is cool because of its stone construction.

Villa Alfierionce belonged to a larger estate: the splendid Villa di Geggiano which sits nearby. Renowned for its elegance, Villa di Geggiano is not normally open to the public, but don't miss a visit to its spectacular gardens. Also very close by is the majestic Certosa di Pontignano, a convent dating back to 1343. The architecture is organized around three cloisters, which differ in size and period. The first, Certosa, is characterized by a simply worked but beautiful stone well. The related church, decorated with paintings by Poccetti and Francesco Vanni, is open to the public on Sundays. The middle cloister, constructed of brick and housing 17th century frescoes, is the largest and most impressive of all.

What to do in the Siena region of Tuscany?

The medieval town of Siena was founded by the Etruscans and later became a Roman colony. During the 13th and 14th centuries it flourished as one of the major cities of Europe, growing rich from banking and the wool trade. The 14th century saw a great amount of construction: the Duomo, the Palazzo Publico and the Campo Square were all products of this time. Siena's glory took a tragic downturn by the end of the 14th century due to the Black Death and political upheaval. The city became little more than a rural market center. It was exactly this decline that accounts for the incredible state of medieval preservation that Siena exhibits today. Built across several hills and valleys, you will find a bit of up and down while walking through the historical center. However, the lack of traffic makes it a wonderful place to strolleven when packed with tourists, there is a quiet and easygoing feel. A must-see is the shell-shaped square called Il Campo. This is the focal point of the city as well as being the venue for the internationally renowned horse race, the Palio.

Casole d'Elsa hosts one of the most charming museums of the many recently opened/restyled in Siena. The art exhibited ranges from the Neolithic era to the XVII century. A visit to the attached Collegiata di Casole is also highly recommended.

Colle Val d'Elsa's newer outskirts offer very few attractions, aside from the crystal manufacturingbut the old town/historical center, Colle Alta, deserves to be seen. Particularly interesting in Colle Alta is the Palazzo Campana, built in the XVI century by the architect Agnolo di Baccio d'Agnolo. This private building looks like a city gate, or a triumphal arch, and dominates the main street of Colle. The Cathedral shows a rich collection of paintings from the XVII century. Don't miss the dramatic and intense Nativity by Rutilio Manetti (fourth chapel on the right, looking to the main altar).

Exceeded all Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

Our family’s stay at Villa Alfieri exceeded all expectations. The location was idyllic, the villa fantastic, and the support staff at Luxury Retreats in Canada and in Italy, and at the Villa were superb in all regards. Our housekeeper, Cinzea, was phenomenal (our whole family loved her!) and her assistants in the kitchen and in cleaning the house and grounds were spectacular. Eliza the site manager was a joy to work with and was always available and helpful. Our grandchildren loved the grounds and the pool and we all loved the spaciousness of the Villa, the comfort of all the accommodations, and proximity of Siena and all the wonderful sights of Italy. We were truly under the Tuscan sun for an entire week!

The Villa is excellent. Not perfect with kids but very good.

  • 5 of 5

The Villa is beautiful. The maid/cook is amazing. Every dish she made was just perfect. The location is ideal for an adult only group, with kids it requires planing as you have to drive everywhere. Taxi's are easy to get with 30 mins notice. There are some great day trips to castles and vineyards within 30 minutes from the Villa.

Everything we hoped it would be

  • 5 of 5

This turned out to be the vacation of our dreams. From the start it was so professionally handled. We had certain criterior that had to be met and Richard helped us find the villa that was a perfect fit for us. Having Pascal , our concierge, help us make arrangements for cars and airport transfers was so helpful as we fumbled around closer to our trip! We laugh now that the night before we left we worried a little about how easy it had all been and wondered if it would actually be as nice as it was represented. The moment we arrived we were all temporarily dumbstruck at the beauty of it all. Eliza, the manager could not have been friendlier or more helpful and Cinzia, the chef that lived at the villa, was unbelievable. She not only cooked for us but helped us to navigate the area. The villa itself was comfortable, clean and words can't describe how beautiful. We will go back, hopefully as soon as possible

Beautiful, well run and peaceful villa.

  • 4 of 5

The villa is beautiful, well maintained and has nice, tasteful decoration. The outdoor dining area and garden was well used by us, and it was perfect for the children. The staff were very helpful and courteous and we found the villa to be clean. well maintained and well run. The mattresses could be updated as some of these were quite old and the twin mattresses were very thin. The air conditioning was a welcome addition. It would have been nice to have the pool heated as the water was too cold to swim in most of the time even given the very hot weather.

We ate at the villa on most nights and the meals were well cooked and presented. Friends had recommended this villa to us and I would definitely recommend it as well.

Exceeded our expectations in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Everyone has no doubt had the experience of booking something over the internet and arriving only to find that the pictures were nothing like the actual product....in a bad way. The Villa Geggianello was the exact opposite! It was beautifully appointed, clean and well cared for. There were fresh flowers in all the rooms, the furniture was up to date with the overall feel perfect for a Tuscany villa. From the time we connected with Luxury Retreats to our final night in the villa we were well taken care of. Everyone from Eliza, the onsight manager, to Cinzia our housekeeper and cook extrodinaire, were warm friendly and professional. No detail was overlooked.
