About Michele Palatas

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I moved to Alaska in 1998 to work in Deadhorse-Prudhoe Bay, in the Arctic on the Beaufort Sea. I quickly became enchanted with this beautiful place we call Alaska! If you love the outdoors, this is the place!

Michele Palatas purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Michele Palatas chose Fairview

I purchased this duplex in 2002 along with two more, and made four of the units, fully furnished guesthouses. You may rent both the Cottage (912285) and the Cabin if you require more room. Since then I have had the pleasure of welcoming guests from all over the world to our city nestled between Cook Inlet and the Chugach Mountains.

What makes this cabin unique

The convenience of being near to downtown and midtown, the Seward Highway heading south and the Glenn Highway heading north, make this a perfect location to get out and experience Anchorage and nearby attractions. The two cottages in the back, The Cabin and The Cottage (912285) are only one of two in all of Anchorage. Built in 1951 to accommodate personnel at the first airstrip, Merrill Field, they have been completely renovated in the past couple years, and the Cabin and Cottage are now quite cute and comfortable.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much Michele. This has been one of my most relaxing yet busy trips I have taken in a long time. I love your place. It is so cozy and warm. It has been delightful.

Nice cozy setting, parking off street, secure!

  • 5 of 5

Great place, close to everything downtown, clean, comfy, everything from home and more. Michele is great, I was going to bring my dogs but flew instead of driving to save time so she brought her dogs over to cure my loneliness. It helped thank you! I hope all goes well with the poodle. You're not going to find anything more for the price! We used the cabin as a hub, Seward cost 179.00 night for garbage! 279.00 night for better. Fairbanks cost 200.00 night and was lucky to get that w/o notice. It was really nice though. So the cabin was worth every penny and more. Cupboards were full of stuff, towels galore, shampoo etc... If I had forgotten something, Michele had me covered. Plenty of room for 2-3 people, excellent communication with Michele, book this cabin if you want clean, affordable, secure, no bugs, close to downtown Anchorage place to stay! Thank you Michele, I'll be back!

Comfy, Convenient, Perfect

  • 5 of 5

For our time in Anchorage this was the perfect place for us! It was like having our own home away from home. It was perfectly located for getting around the city, whether you walk or Uber, and it was so nice to 'come home' after a day out. We didn't have to worry about loosing a key card, we were able to buy our own groceries and make our own food 'save money', and we were able to feel like we could relax unlike how it would feel in a hotel/motel. The price was excellent too for 2 people before peak tourist season too. The owner also left us little snacks around which we enjoyed.

Only 2 issues- #1. if someone is in the other half of the duplex and they have a babies or are wild you will probably hear them very plainly. #2. the water is shared between each halves of the duplex, so do NOT plan to take long hot showers as the hot water might have already been spent by the other half...or even by you. Just go and plan on saving water. Be environmentally friendly during your stay.

Overall, this is an EXCELLENT place to stay. We would totally return.

Owner's Response: Hi Bonnie....Thank you for the lovely review! I did have the walls insulated, but the sound carries through the attic unfortunately. The boiler is a new high efficiency, just installed in the past year, so it should warm up quite quickly. I did not realize that it was an issue...thank you for bringing it to my attention. My larger one bedroom, the 1217 Guesthouse up front is twice as big and a bit more private. Thank you again for your patronage! Michele

Cute cottage

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is small but well- stocked with everything you need for a stay! Michele has done an excellent job with including many amenities in her rental. My teenage son and I stayed here for a championship swim meet at Bartlett High School pool. It was an easy drive to/ from the pool daily. Restaurants and shops were nearby as well.

I gave the cottage 4 stars instead of 5 based on the following: When I drove into the neighborhood, I felt the surrounding area was a bit 'questionable.' Upon doing an offender search of the area, several results came back for nearby properties. This wasn't much of a concern to me with a teenage son, but if I had younger children or was staying alone, I wouldn't chose this location as my rental choice. Also the cottage has a fenced area but it completely surrounds the 2 cottages she owns ( which are a duplex). You do not get a privately fenced yard. This is just something to be aware of as she allows pets at her property. So if the other cottage is rented at the time of your stay, you may encounter dog (s) running in the yard outside of your front door- as the fence encircles the entire front/ back of the duplex.
