Gorgeous 900 sq/ft 1 bedroom 1 bathroom flat built in 1907 has 13 windows which provide an abundance of light and air and amazing views. They are completely and comfortably furnished and outfitted; from the flat screen TV to the iPod dock, premium linens to gourmet cookware, and boogie boards to bikes. There are original built-ins in the living room, dining room and kitchen plus beautiful original wood floors throughout. The large bedroom includes a queen size bed while another double bed is conveniently tucked away in the living room in the form of a pull-down Murphy bed. The 2 separate sleeping areas make it comfortable for 2 couples or a family. The kitchen is large with a cool vintage gas stove and is well stocked with all you will need to make your own meals including a variety of herbs, spices and oils. The claw foot tub is a perfect place to soak and recharge after a day of biking, shopping or surfing. The bathroom has an en-suite entrance and a 2nd door from the sunroom/office. At the back of the flat is an office/sunroom space with a view off the large deck in the upper flat. The deck includes a table and chairs for 4 and downstairs in the common courtyard is a BBQ for our long and short-term residents.

PLEASE NOTE - We do not accept reservations for less than 1 month more than 30 days in advance - unless it fills a gap in our calendar or it's a special event. We ALWAYS have a 7-night minimum.

The neighborhood is the hub of the burgeoning San Diego restaurant and craft beer scene and is only minutes from Hillcrest, South Park, Normal Heights, Balboa Park, SD Zoo and Downtown. Walk to restaurants, galleries, boutiques, a grocery store, a farmers market, brewpubs, bars, banks, and more!

Of course, all utilities - high-speed wireless internet, DirecTV and gas/power are included!

All units are just blocks from a major bus hub.

There is no smoking allowed in these apartments nor on the property.

Love Love Love

I want to live in this apartment forever! It is way bigger than I had anticipated and it is close to everything. You can easily walk to the park, restaurants, bars, check out the adorable craftsman houses and even local live music. While I was there I got a pedicure, massage, went for a run through Balboa park, drank at some breweries, ate amazing food, and even bought all of my groceries....with no car! Everything is right there.

Loved the neighbors, loved the location, loved the apartment.

Great Central Comfortable Location!

This 2nd floor heritage space was perfect for me and my husband's needs. We like to be off street level but don't wish to be in a condo. We ate breakfast in, and worked in the mornings, and then went out exploring the vibrant neighborhood. The internet was fast and there was 2 possible work areas. The rental was clean and well maintained, and was outfitted with everything we needed, and then some - a light bulb blew and there was a back up handy....

I rented the COTTAGE for 2 months while serving an internship at an area hospital. The cottage is well maintained, well furnished and has a fully stocked kitchen. Loved the hard wood floors and comfortable living room. The queen bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is nice. The cottage is very private and quiet with a small courtyard across from the main apartment building. The locked gate and privacy fence provides for a very safe and secure environment. Within walking distance to all restaurants, bars and shopping in the bustling North Park district. (My favorites were Subterranean Coffee Boutique, Underbelly North Park and Saguaro's). Close proximity to Balboa Park is great for running and hiking. The on-site washer and dryer was a plus. Easy access to the freeways for a quick drive to downtown, Coronado Island, beaches and Mission Bay. Janella and James are great to work with and responsive to any questions and needs. The COTTAGE was a great home away from home!

We had a wonderful time in San Diego and the upper flat was great. Janella, the owner, was very responsive and accommodating. The property provided everything we wanted. The residents in the building were very friendly and helpful too. This property was in a great location with the beaches, airport, naval base and San Diego State University all within 10 to 20 minutes.

My only suggestion is to put a shelf in the bath/shower for your soap and shampoo.

We will definitely look to see if this is available next time we come to San Diego!

Not safe for people with small children

We rented this house for a month but had to leave after only 4 days. It was extremely cold the first couple nights, down in the 30's and we have a 14 month old baby and the house really has no effective heating system. I had to call the maintenance man to come and light the pilot light on the one heater and while there he said that since the heater was so old that if we were going to turn it off to make sure we turn off the heater and the gas supply just to "be safe". This made me uncomfortable to say the least. The heater was ancient and the exterior of it was sold metal which got hot enough to burn after we had it on for only about an hour. This was a worry as well since I did not want my baby to touch it and get burned. I contacted the owner and she said she would give us space heaters but as far as the house heater went, she said I should go and purchase a baby gate or watch my child better. She did have space heaters brought to us so we plugged them in and they immediately flipped off one of the main circuit breakers to the house. I contacted the owner again and expressed my concerns over the space heaters and the fact that the property did not have any smoke or CO2 detectors. I said I would pay for the rest of the week but that I wanted to move out because I just didn't feel safe there and at this point we had gotten no sleep for 3 nights because my son would wake up every couple of hours crying because he was so cold. She did no seem to care at all and lectured me regarding how to raise my children and that her property was well represented in her ad and that I was putting her family at risk because the rental was how she fed her family. She did end up compromising though, she made me pay for 2 full weeks and then refunded the remaining 2 weeks. Some compromise. I would not recommend this house to anyone with small kids. Super bad experience for me and my family.

Owner's Response: As a family-run business, our top priority across all 14 of our vacation rentals is the safety and satisfaction of our guests. In our ad we clearly recommend this property is suitable for children older than 6. The age of the building is highlighted, as is a prominent picture of the gas heater. The heater is safe and keeps the flat warm enough for most guests even during the rare "cold snaps" when it gets down into the 40's. As dictated by the law and common sense, all of our units contain hard-wired carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. I spoke to this guest twice before she rented the property and she never mentioned having a toddler and another young child. When it became clear that the guest was not satisfied, we negotiated what I believe to be a fair compromise. I did not feel it was my responsibility to refund all the rent as I had turned down numerous reservation requests spanning the Christmas holidays. Yet I refunded 1/2 the rent paid and agreed to refund any rent I might collect if I was able to re-rent the flat. At the time, she agreed to this solution and thanked me for working with her. Unfortunately, as it was so close to the holidays I was not able to re-rent the unit.

Palm Springs

Cute Apartment in the very heart of Northpark

Although this is a bare bones apartment, it is cutely furnished and quite a bit bigger than we'd expected. The hardwood floors are old, but wonderful and natural light pours into every room, thanks to the many windows. Since we were on the 2nd floor, nobody was above us and we could look out onto Northpark in several directions. There are about 6 units in the building, half of which have full time tenants and half are vacation rentals. Everybody in the building was very friendly, especially the full-timers. You get a sense when living here that you're a local. There is a lot of street noise, but we got used to it quickly. I guess that's the price you pay for living right dab in the middle of a vibrant, young neighborhood. We could walk to several craft beer houses, restaurants, groceries and the amazing Balboa Park. The neighborhood is full of gorgeous Craftsmen houses, so a self guided architecture tour is a must. We were lucky enough to stay a month and we'd do it again in a heartbeat.
