Great location, and large

  • 4 of 5

The good first. It's a great place and a great location. The house is roomy with plenty of necessities for a great start, like a bag of ice and coffee. And thank you for the complimentary wine. The yard is nice, big, well maintained and private. good neighborhood, quiet and dark. Neighbors really should upgrade lighting and cut down on the overgrowth of bushes and trees. The kitchen is equipped with enough tools to make a decent meal or reheat one. Best of all it is close enough to UT to walk if you are a good walker. We walked to the UT Tower for ceremonies, and to my daughter's apartment, Villas on Guadalupe. There is plenty of parking included. I would highly recommend this place to any parent visiting UT.

And, for the kind of ok. Having stayed in rentals al over the world, this is the first time we are not greeted by a caretaker or owner. I guess no one has stayed in a while, Place was dusty, but not dirty. We had to clean up a little. If something is broken, an active owner would have noticed, like the wood around the shower window, old telephone line boxes could be removed, door handles are loose, etc. I guess as the handyman in my home, I notice those things. And, the UT kids that came to visit thought it was spooky. Something about the weird mix of art and items.

Charming house in lovely neighborhood

  • 3 of 5

This is a very charming house located in a lovely neighborhood, but close to everything. Really nice kitchen, and even though there is only one bathroom, it is large and accommodating. There is a nice back yard to sit and enjoy your coffee. The only complaint regarding the house is that the living room furniture is a bit odd and not very comfortable.

Also be warned that the price is deceiving in that it was advertised around 200/night, but the owner charges an extra fee for each additional person. So even though it states that it sleeps 4 comfortably, you will be charged, per night, per person. So for me, what I thought would be around $440 for two nights came out to $712. I emailed the owner probably 4 different times asking if she would be willing to waive the fee, or at a minimum refund the fee for my husband who wasn't able to join us that weekend. She never responded which I found very odd and unprofessional. She was helpful and responsive to other emails. It turned out to be a very expensive weekend in Austin.

Owner's Response: Meg, First I would like to apologize for any confusion about our exchange given I believe we responded on the 8th regarding your request. We are happy to refund the $20 ($10 a day) for your husband. I do understand the frustration regarding the fees and as a renter I agree. As you suggested, it is $220 a night, then the city hotel tax is $85, homeaway adds another $63, then cleaning for $65 and extra guests are $10 a day. The intention of the quote process is to ensure you understand all those extra fees, but we will look into providing more clarity during booking to ensure it is clear. I am glad you enjoyed our property and please provide your mailing address via email for the refund.

Nice property!

  • 5 of 5

This historic property was everything we needed for a lovely weekend. It's a great location, and the house is clean and is comfortably and tastefully furnished. The backyard patio area was especially nice. The place is perfect for a couple or a small family. The Murphy bed in the 2nd bedroom could be a little small for two adults. I absolutely recommend this great house for anyone who prefers a homey space to an unpredictable hotel room.

Fantastic spot

  • 5 of 5

The location is great and the house is nice and cozy. It even has speakers wired up throughout so you can listen to music whenever and wherever.

The neighborhood is nice and quiet and close to a bunch of restaurants and shops a few blocks away with the easy option to hop on over to downtown in a pinch. Really, just a fantastic place to stay.

Great house; great location

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable house and great backyard to enjoy happy hour! Walking distance to UT (and downtown, if you're intrepid). Will definitely stay here again. Our only suggestion is the house could use a few more lamps--got a bit dark inside in the evening.
