Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cabin in Canton - Lake Logan cabin

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

If you're looking for a mountain/lake getaway, our peaceful retreat has something for everybody: outdoor adventure and fishing, quaint mountain towns to explore, and R & R in a beautiful setting. Days spent in our cozy 1910 lake cabin are guaranteed to take you back to a simpler time and rejuvenate your spirit.

Our cabin sits on the shores of spectacular Lake Logan. It is on North Carolina 215, a National Forest Service Heritage Scenic Byway which climbs alongside a beautiful stretch of the upper West Fork of the Pigeon River towards the Blue Ridge Parkway. Lake Logan is a crystal clear mountain gem which lies in a pristine valley. Our secluded cabin is currently the only building on our side of the lake and sits on a 40 acre tract subdivided into 4 lots and surrounded by forest service land. We share our roads and dock with three neighbors, only one of whom lives in town. We are also neighbors with the 300 acre Lake Logan Episcopal Center. Most of its campus is just up the road from us. Part of their property includes 5 cabins across the lake from us which provide reassurance that we're not totally isolated. Once an exclusive retreat for Champion Paper Company executives, Lake Logan, a 90 acre lake, is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes on the East coast and is completely surrounded by forest service land. Motorized boats are prohibited. So come soak up the serenity of God’s glorious gifts in this mountain sanctuary. Watch the sun set from the dock on Lake Logan after a day of fishing. The lake offers excellent fishing for trophy trout and bass, bluegill, crappie and perch. It is only open to guests of the conference center and us. You can relax in the swing on the covered porch, open the windows and fall asleep to the sound of the creek, or simply enjoy a cup of coffee and a good book free from distractions. Children will enjoy playing in the creek next to the cabin, swimming from the dock and paddling around in the jon boat or kayak. We've enjoyed spotting wildlife from the cabin and on the lake. We have a resident bald eagle. We've seen deer, wild turkeys, otter and beaver. The lake is home to geese, ducks, kingfishers, and heron.

Thousands of acres of Wilderness area surrounds the Lake. The Blue Ridge Parkway, the Sunburst swimming hole and a multitude of waterfalls and hiking trails are right next door. We're minutes from the highest points along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Extensive shopping & dining are only 15 minutes away in downtown Waynesville. The historic Biltmore House or eclectic Asheville is only 40 minutes away. Perfect for a romantic getaway, celebration of a special day, or a family vacation.

Although our cabin was built in 1910, it was completely renovated (in 2011) with all the modern conveniences, but period architecture (leaded glass windows, hard wood floors and bead board ceilings and walls) and furnishings remain. We have paid particular attention to craftsmanship and details inside and out, and worked to preserve the integrity of the period and mountain setting. The cabin has an open floor plan, large kitchen, two bedrooms and two full baths. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed, chest of drawers, and comfortable reading chair, as well as a full size closet for your belongings. The second bedroom also has a queen-size pillow top bed , dresser, and armoir. The sectional sofa in the den can be used to sleep 2 additional people. The second bathroom is off the den and has a shower and vanity with mirror.

The large living area is a combination kitchen/dining/living room and has great views of the wooded areas surrounding the home. The living room is accented with a gas log heater and comfortably furnished with a sectional sofa and television with DVD player. A windowed door opens to the front porch that overlooks the lake. From there you can view activity on the lake and the dock or grill your favorite foods.

The kitchen is fully equipped and in keeping with the period of the house. It contains an antique refrigerator/freezer and electric stove/oven. The microwave, dishwasher and coffee maker are new. There is also a breakfast bar that seats three and separates the kitchen from the den area. Dishes, silverware, pots, pans, and other cooking utensils are available for your use. The dining table, next to the kitchen, comfortably seats six and has a lake view.

Smoking is not permitted. Pets are allowed for a small additional fee.

Keywords: Fisherman's paradise completely remodeled 1910 cabin tucked in the woods overlooking a private mountain lake in the heart of the Smoky Mountains, minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, boat dock and jon boat available for guest use, creek runs beside cabin, hot tub on deck off master with creek view, large retro kitchen, washer/dryer, open floor plan, front porch

About Dan Smith

We are a family of four. Dan is a youth minister, Leslie is a school counselor, our oldest daughter is in college at UNCA and our youngest daughter is in high school. We have a dog and a cat who are also a big part of the family.

Dan Smith purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Dan Smith chose Maggie Valley/Waynesville Area

Our cabin on Lake Logan is a dream come true. We have always wanted to have lake front property, but never imagined we'd find just what we were looking for so close to home. When four lots on Lake Logan went up for sale, we jumped at the opportunity because it had everything we were looking for: seclusion, fishing and boating on a beautiful lake which doesn't allow motorized boats and rarely has anyone else on the lake, a creek and mountain views.

Great Mountain Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was very clean and comfortable. If you want to get away this place is it. It has a very charming feel to the place and is decorated with a fisherman in mind. I met Dan while I was there and he was a pleasure to deal with and even gave me some tips on the fishing. I would recommend anyone to come visit and enjoy this real gem.

Perfect place for a peaceful, relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a great view and a quiet, comfortable place to get away, unplug, and relax, and wow, did this location deliver. From the fabulous lake/mountain view to the beautifully decorated cabin with all the modern conveniences needed for comfort, we absolutely loved this vacation and intend to return. We were happy to take our dogs with us, spend some time reading on the swing on the porch, fishing down on the dock (and thanks to Dan, next time we know a few fishing spots to try), taking the jon boat out on the lake, enjoying all the beautiful scenery, and taking short trips into Waynesville and Maggie Valley. It was nice to get to talk with Dan and Leslie. They have made this place such a special retreat. Can't wait for our next visit. (Beth & David, Muttley, Moxie, Miller)

Beautiful, relaxing spot in the NC mountains!

Cabin is fully stocked and very homey! Large enough for our group of 5 with many little niches for solitary time. Porch is awesome.

Needs a new Weber kettle. Be sure to bring charcoal. Be sure to bring along a NC State Map; GPS does not work in this area and a full tank of gas!

Thanks to Dan for a great stay! We want to come back!

Lake Logan is a Private Lake, it was a Thrill to be Able to Spend Time on It!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I live in Haywood County where Lake Logan is located. We, like so many others, have driven past it on our way to the Parkway and stopped to admire its beauty - nestled in the mountains surrounded by trees. We found out about this cabin through someone who used to work in it when it was the woodworking shop for Champion Paper Mill. The owners have remodeled it, retaining all of the original charm while adding modern amenities. We had our two daughters, one of their husbands and our 2-year-old grandson join us for a long weekend just to get away from it all. The cabin has an open design with the kitchen and dining room making for good flow from the back to the front. The two bedrooms, as was the entire cabin, were comfortably furnished with beautiful mountain/lake décor. We enjoyed the books outlining the history of the area. We had one person sleep on the couch, and it was comfortable. There are no television signals, which is more than fine, but the owners have a nice stock of DVDs. We rented the trolling motor for the fishing boat for fishing and also enjoyed rowing around the lake. Our grandson fished for the first time from the dock. He caught his very first fish with his miniature rod as the fish were biting as soon as the bait hit the water. It was a wonderful experience for him. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend staying here. There are so many things to do and see in our area, and the owners provide lots of information in binder form to help you plan your trip after you arrive. Thanks to Leslie and Dan for allowing our daughter to bring her Shih Tzu also and for sharing their home with us.

Cozy cabin retreat

  • 5 of 5

Dan and his wife Leslie made this lake cabin so comfortable! We brought our yorkie with us and he felt right at home. The front porch with a gate to keep him safe was great! We enjoyed the boat and the lake is beautiful! No cell phone or wifi, which was a great break from hectic life! Beds were so comfortable and location was convenient for side trips. A great mountain visit was enjoyed by all!

The nearest place to Heaven I have ever been.

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from three nights at the Lake Logan cabin. We travelled with friends who have two children. It was perfect for our needs. The lake was so beautiful, peaceful and tranquil. We all plan to come back.

Our friend caught a nice Large Mouth--around 8 lbs! Dan & Leslie were very hospitable. We did not get to meet them in person, but we spoke with them by phone and email several times.

The road in front to the cabin was not a problem. The children (8 and 12) were careful to look both ways before crossing as we watched from the porch, and traffic was not that heavy. The cars that did come by were travelling fast, but you could hear them coming way before they got there. Younger children would need more supervision, but that is just common sense anyway.

The hot tub was wonderful in the evening, and the front porch was the place to be in the morning, drinking a cup of coffee and enjoying the cool mountain air.

The beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed.

It was a short drive to Waynesville, and there was a bait and tackle shop about 10 minutes from the cabin where they were very helpful and gave advice about what types of tackle we needed.

We had a great time!
