If you're looking for a mountain/lake getaway, our peaceful retreat has something for everybody: outdoor adventure and fishing, quaint mountain towns to explore, and R & R in a beautiful setting. Days spent in our cozy 1910 lake cabin are guaranteed to take you back to a simpler time and rejuvenate your spirit.
Our cabin sits on the shores of spectacular Lake Logan. It is on North Carolina 215, a National Forest Service Heritage Scenic Byway which climbs alongside a beautiful stretch of the upper West Fork of the Pigeon River towards the Blue Ridge Parkway. Lake Logan is a crystal clear mountain gem which lies in a pristine valley. Our secluded cabin is currently the only building on our side of the lake and sits on a 40 acre tract subdivided into 4 lots and surrounded by forest service land. We share our roads and dock with three neighbors, only one of whom lives in town. We are also neighbors with the 300 acre Lake Logan Episcopal Center. Most of its campus is just up the road from us. Part of their property includes 5 cabins across the lake from us which provide reassurance that we're not totally isolated. Once an exclusive retreat for Champion Paper Company executives, Lake Logan, a 90 acre lake, is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes on the East coast and is completely surrounded by forest service land. Motorized boats are prohibited. So come soak up the serenity of God’s glorious gifts in this mountain sanctuary. Watch the sun set from the dock on Lake Logan after a day of fishing. The lake offers excellent fishing for trophy trout and bass, bluegill, crappie and perch. It is only open to guests of the conference center and us. You can relax in the swing on the covered porch, open the windows and fall asleep to the sound of the creek, or simply enjoy a cup of coffee and a good book free from distractions. Children will enjoy playing in the creek next to the cabin, swimming from the dock and paddling around in the jon boat or kayak. We've enjoyed spotting wildlife from the cabin and on the lake. We have a resident bald eagle. We've seen deer, wild turkeys, otter and beaver. The lake is home to geese, ducks, kingfishers, and heron.
Thousands of acres of Wilderness area surrounds the Lake. The Blue Ridge Parkway, the Sunburst swimming hole and a multitude of waterfalls and hiking trails are right next door. We're minutes from the highest points along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Extensive shopping & dining are only 15 minutes away in downtown Waynesville. The historic Biltmore House or eclectic Asheville is only 40 minutes away. Perfect for a romantic getaway, celebration of a special day, or a family vacation.
Although our cabin was built in 1910, it was completely renovated (in 2011) with all the modern conveniences, but period architecture (leaded glass windows, hard wood floors and bead board ceilings and walls) and furnishings remain. We have paid particular attention to craftsmanship and details inside and out, and worked to preserve the integrity of the period and mountain setting. The cabin has an open floor plan, large kitchen, two bedrooms and two full baths. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed, chest of drawers, and comfortable reading chair, as well as a full size closet for your belongings. The second bedroom also has a queen-size pillow top bed , dresser, and armoir. The sectional sofa in the den can be used to sleep 2 additional people. The second bathroom is off the den and has a shower and vanity with mirror.
The large living area is a combination kitchen/dining/living room and has great views of the wooded areas surrounding the home. The living room is accented with a gas log heater and comfortably furnished with a sectional sofa and television with DVD player. A windowed door opens to the front porch that overlooks the lake. From there you can view activity on the lake and the dock or grill your favorite foods.
The kitchen is fully equipped and in keeping with the period of the house. It contains an antique refrigerator/freezer and electric stove/oven. The microwave, dishwasher and coffee maker are new. There is also a breakfast bar that seats three and separates the kitchen from the den area. Dishes, silverware, pots, pans, and other cooking utensils are available for your use. The dining table, next to the kitchen, comfortably seats six and has a lake view.
Smoking is not permitted. Pets are allowed for a small additional fee.

Dan Smith purchased this cabin in 2010
Our cabin on Lake Logan is a dream come true. We have always wanted to have lake front property, but never imagined we'd find just what we were looking for so close to home. When four lots on Lake Logan went up for sale, we jumped at the opportunity because it had everything we were looking for: seclusion, fishing and boating on a beautiful lake which doesn't allow motorized boats and rarely has anyone else on the lake, a creek and mountain views.
This place is absolutely beautiful. Dan's hospitality was second to none. This place had exactly what we were looking for. We saw bald eagles, caught huge trout 20" or more and few yellow perch right off the dock (all safely caught and released).
The evenings were spent by the fire pit and grill. One night we went and stared at the stars on the dock. The views are amazing. The nostalgia of the home takes you back in time but, you won't be roughing it.
The memories here will be cherished forever. We look forward to returning sometime in the near future.
One renter mentioned the road in front of the home before you reach the lake. I could see this being dangers for some younger children and pets if they are not leashed. It did not cause us any problems.
Traveled to this cute cabin the weekend after Thanksgiving to just relax. Cabin was clean, beds were comfy. The lake was all but dried up due to the drought so we were glad we didn't haul our kayaks. Kitchen was mostly well appointed, but we could have used another large skillet or a griddle. Cooking pancakes for a family of six was a challenge with only one pan, but we just ate in shifts!! :) I would definitely come again.
Comfortable cabin. Great access to road and surroundings.
This is a dream cabin and Dan is an ideal host. We enjoyed the lake, the nearby west fork of the pigeon river for fly fishing, the hiking off of Highway 215 and the overall tranquillity and scenery. This is one of the best mountain getaways we have ever had. Thank you Dan!
My husband and I shared this cabin with another couple. Perfect!! Had everything we needed and was very clean. We all loved the cabin!! We went on this trip to get away from our busy lives and to relax and that is what we did. We all enjoyed the beauty surrounding the lake and the guys enjoyed boating and fishing. The catch was delicious! We did explore some of the nearby towns. Several nice locals shared their thoughts on favorite places to eat, apple orchards and where to buy apple pies!! The fall was absolutely beautiful! We all said we want to rent again next year.
The cabin was very clean and comfortable. If you want to get away this place is it. It has a very charming feel to the place and is decorated with a fisherman in mind. I met Dan while I was there and he was a pleasure to deal with and even gave me some tips on the fishing. I would recommend anyone to come visit and enjoy this real gem.
