Girls Weekend Away

  • 5 of 5

A shore thing is a wonderful place. The home is very well equipped, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. The accommodations are very nice, up to date appliances and bathrooms; even the linens are lovely. The home is close to many attractions. The back yard, deck and boat dock areas are very inviting, with a nice view of the river along with wonderful sights of eagles, osprey and many ducks, a bird watchers paradise. I just wish our weather was better to enjoy the outside, but we still had a wonderful time and it was very relaxing at “A shore thing.” The owners, David and Amy were very accommodating and friendly. We highly recommend this lovely home.

Most Amazing Vacation Stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself, and another couple every year ride our motorcycles for a two week vacation just to get away from the city. This cottage was the most amazing, relaxing, and enjoyable place we have ever stayed. It was waaayyyyy above what we had expected. We wanted for nothing. Meaning it was equipped with everything you can imagine. Blankets, movies, games, binoculars, plenty of room for the whole family if you went with one. Everything was labeled. Lights, fans, TV, Wi-Fi, extremely clean and very decorative. David is a very kind gentleman and full of knowledge of places to see or visit. Which really the place has so much to do you could stay right at the cottage and enjoy. We came to ride our motorcyles and see the fall colors since we are from Florida. Which the riding was awesome, beautiful country. Got pretty cold though for motorcycles but we came equipped. LOL!!! Go USA!!!!!!!! We would definately visit again and will recommend to our friends. Thanks so much Amy and David for your hospitality.

Our Awesome Weekend

  • 5 of 5

A Shore Thing was absolutely wonderful. The owners thought of everything! The house was more beautiful in person. Loved the yard and dock...could have spent the entire weekend just sitting on the dock watching the world go by...so relaxing! The owners were awesome to work with. I have no problems recommending A Shore Thing to my friends and family. We were in Colonial Beach for the Bike Rally and this was a really nice getaway for all of us.

Luxury waterfront at a reasonable price

  • 5 of 5

Can't say enough good about this cottage. The view is beautiful of Mattox Creek, a typical tidal water tributary of the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay and absolutely idyllic. The cottage itself is fully quipped with everything a tenant could ask for, and packed with high end luxuries. Despite all that, the price is very reasonable.

Our landlord, David , met us at the cottage and gave us a tour and graciously answered all of our questions and concerns.

The small resort town of Colonial Beach is a ten minute drive away and the breakfast at Lenny's and the Thai/French cuisine at the Lighthouse is excellent. Not so much High Tides, nor Shady Lane Crab House.

Despite all that,. we barely left the place, it being such a perfect place to relax. My wife and I spent hours sitting on the deck, or the lounging on the covered dock area, or sitting in the living room enjoying the view. We never tired of it.

Wildlife abounds as we saw bald eagles, great blue herons, pileated woodpeckers, cormorants, mallards, Canada geese and big beautiful swans that will eat right out of your hands.

Additionally, the fishing is pretty good. I caught catfish, some good size, a ton of white perch and even a nice rockfish. The fishing was aided by the kayak that was provided for me at no extra charge, although I caught plenty of fish even right from the pier which is large and comfortable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will certainly come back when in this area again.

Owner's Response: Our guests arrived just as the threat of a hurricane subsided and the bad weather moved up the coast. They had perfect weather and calm, sunny conditions for fishing and taking in the scenery and birds on Mattox Creek. We enjoyed watching our guests fishing from the pier and kayak. They introduced us to Berger's cookies from Baltimore, Maryland ... and we pass that tip on to our future guests. So good, so very good. Thank you so much.

A shore thing we'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

This was exactly what we were looking for. This was the perfect place for a girls weekend away from husbands and kids. The home was very clean and so nicely decorated. We were so surprised to see so many kitchen extras along with all the soaps, shampoos, and detergents that were at the house for us to use. We came during a storm/hurricane and spent most of our time at the house inside. We can't wait to return so we can use the dock and porch! The views of the water were spectacular! The owner met us there and was very helpful in directing us to the best restaurants and shops. We will definitely return!
