About the property

Lodge, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Hillcrest Lodge is on a hill overlooking one of Texas' most renowned fishing lakes! Sitting on top of a hill, we are a perfect destination for groups of anglers, families on vacation or family reunions. Boat ramps and hiking trails are nearby. Our lodge is located next to the Amistad National Recreation Area.

Lake Amistad was voted the #1 Bass fishing lake in the country by Bassmaster magazine after one of the large Pro-Angler tournaments. With 60,0000 acres of clear water and year- round good weather, the lake is a boating and fishing gem.

The kitchen in this charming Texas house is equipped with everything needed to settle in and make the house your home. We furnish all towels and linens and there is no cleaning charge. The cool breeze from the lake, along with the mature shade trees, makes sitting on the patio while barbequeing or watching the magnificent sunsets a pleasure. The double hammock is another good option for relaxing. Maybe sitting on the front porch with a good book is all you need.

About The Owner

Jim and I are from Rhode Island. We are both retired and love being in Texas ........ especially during those cold New England months. We like to take walks around the different recreation areas and sometimes at the end of a long walk we take a quick swim in the lake to cool off. Our old standard poodle, Guy, loves it too. But then, he loves everything and everybody.

What makes this lodge unique

We enjoy the relaxing pace here at Hillcrest Lodge. I particularly love to watch the animal life in the yard. So many birds species! Quail ,roadrunners, bob-whites, song birds of all kinds. Plus we have deer that come in the yard and horses that sometimes come to the back fence to visit.

Great place. Very quaint and convenient to the lake.

we used this as a base camp for four days of fishing on lake amistad. We didn't expect much but what we got was just perfect. Very roomy with ample room for all three of us. Very close to the lake (probably 5 minutes to diablo west which is really the only boat ramp open on the lake that is worth anything). Big yard with BBQ grill and wood for our use. Frank was great and made sure we had everything we needed. Pool table in the living room area was a nice touch. Best part was that at the end we didn't have a hard checkout time and really didn't need to clean up anything which let us get an extra morning of fishing in without a lot of worry about getting back to get out on time.

Great location. Close to the ramps. It's a neat house. It's old and has a lot of character. We really enjoyed it.

Baffin Bay, Texas

Let's go again!

If you have a peripatetic spirit filled with curiosity and optimism, Hillcrest Lodge is your gateway to the wild and beautiful Trans Pecos area of Texas. You’re smack-dab equidistant from historical attractions in all directions. Visit the Val Verde winery in Del Rio, the remote rivers of the desert, and the astounding, utterly breathtaking petroglyphs from the prehistoric past that cover the canyon walls.

Frank is an interesting, wonderful host, and his clean, well-stocked and spacious Lodge provides all you’ll need for a relaxing stay. The Texas Parks and Wildlife visitor center is just across the highway down the hill!

Imagine…A yard full of wildlife under the feeder, beyond which are panoramic views of Lake Amistad out the front door and the ever-changing light and shadows on the mountains in Mexico out the back door. Mother Nature presents a different show with every unworldly sunset! I was reminded of T.S. Eliot’s line from The Wasteland. “I should have been a pair of ragged claws scuttling across the bottom of silent seas.” Tranquility, silence and perfect peace.
