Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Fernwood - CLIMATE PERFECT TOPANGA HOME

UNIQUE 2 BEDROOM GEM SPARKLING IN SRAWLING CANYONS, 8 MINUTES TO THE BEACH

Once the home of Mickey Rooney, this Topanga gem is wonderfully situated for gentle ocean breezes in a 'climate-perfect' area. Enveloped in natural beauty, with its own poetry at any time of day or year, it invites one to retreat in tranquil simplicity and comfort, yet within minutes to civilization.

It is located minutes from the beach and surfing hot spots, nestled in between Malibu (15 minutes,) Pacific Palisades (10 minutes,) Santa Monica (15 minutes,) and the Valley (20 minutes.)

The property is surrounded by a lovely fenced yard, a growing orchard, an herb garden, and a vegetable garden, crowned by a gazebo with a swinging couch and garden chairs. The main entrance opens to a rock garden with a fountain. Facing it is the front porch with cushioned wicker chairs providing relaxation at any time of day or night.

The house features a high ceiling with exposed beams, bamboo floors, and sage color carpet in the bedroom harmonizing Nature and hOMe. The space is well designed and enlightened by a warm glow recessed lighting system on a dimmer that creates even more special moments of relaxation. It has an eclectic feel with flavors of Asia, India, Africa and France, inviting simplicity and serenity.

It is proudly erected on a rugged canyon terrain, yet comfortable with amenities of modern life. High tech kitchen with country accents (see detail below,) central heating system, shower/bath, fireplace, home theater with DVD player, surround sound, wireless FIOS Internet. I am also happy to accommodate infants and toddlers, with a portable crib, high chair, car seat, rocking horse, oversize plush animals, foldable play tent and tunnel, books and other toys.

You walk into a warm open space featuring various environments that blend harmoniously into each other: Living room facing the fireplace and a pull down home theater screen. On the left is the dining area overlooking the herb and vegetable garden, growing orchard and gazebo.

From the dining area, you walk into the kitchen on the right. You should find everything you need there, and more: blender, food processor, bread machine, Fondue set, crepe maker, toaster, French press coffee maker, tea pots, electric kettle. Cookery is included. If you need anything else, just ask, I probably have it. The kitchen has two windows into the world of nature. It feels perched in the trees.

The kitchen door opens onto a red brick terrace, with two patio chairs and a small round table. There is a planter (with seasonal vine-type vegetables for your enjoyment) dividing the main house from the guest house. The kitchen has two windows into the world of nature. It feels perched in the trees.

There are four dining areas: the front porch is facing east, good for breakfast, while the red brick terrace is perfect for lunch time; the gazebo is pleasant in mid afternoon for tea or coffee break; if you prefer to stay inside, the dining area overlooks the herb and vegetable garden, the gazebo and beyond, up the hill.

The Master and Guest Bedrooms are on the right of the living room; across, is a full bathroom with a view from the shower and bathtub.

The master bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed. The guest bedroom has 2 twin size beds configured in an L bracket. Both bedrooms are bright and temperate, each window with a stunning view of nature. The maximum occupancy of 4. High quality linen, towels, basic toiletries are all included.

You can expect cleanliness, quietness, beauty of the surroundings - nature and civilization working together.

The days weave a visual tapestry of trees and vegetation, including California Oaks, Olive trees, fern, massive boulders and wild flowers. The nights orchestrate a symphony of frogs and crickets, conducted by owls. A wide variety of wild life reclaims its territory beyond the wooden fence.

And sheltering it all, the light pollution free sky will often dazzle the stargazer.

This is a good place to take a break from the city and the busy-ness of life, where you can be quiet, secluded, and creative, and/or social, active and busy as you wish.

This is a well cared home and property. It gives me great pleasure to share them through HOMEAWAY/VRBO and I love to exceed my guests' expectations.

About Isabelle

Born and raised in France, I am a linguist, love all languages and cultures. I practice yoga, hike, dance, write. I love the homes I have created for myself, enjoy maintaining them and am constantly beautifying them for myself and all who visit. In the process I have developed a network of professionals with personality, integrity and competence that I am happy to hire when needed. Although I can guarantee you complete privacy, I am usually around if you need anything and am quick to respond. As my guests, you might enjoy special details within my homes and property. It is a joy to share the beautiful surrounding I live in and lifestyle they afford. I Recently spent two months traveling through Nepal, India and Sri Lanka with my youngest daughter (booked a few nights in Jaipur, met a really cool host!!) Since I started hosting , I have enjoyed guests from various States and countries; the world coming to me in this way, and being part of Los Angeles where all cultures are represented, I feel I don't need to travel that much anymore. Hosting is a creative expression for me and I love to exceed my guests expectations.

Why Isabelle chose Topanga

This is a unique property in that it is small yet well designed, with many different environments, both inside and outside.

It is centrally located and easily accessible - no long winding canyon roads to contend with - completely surrounded by nature, and in the climate perfect part of the canyon.

The house is modern with loads of vintage charm. It has the best of all worlds: canyon setting, yet close to the ocean; secluded, yet within minutes to civilization. It invites a healthy lifestyle in an eclectic community.

The house is simple and tastefully designed.

What makes this house unique

When you walk through the gate, you are in a world of its own. There is a lovely fence all around. The gazebo with swinging couch and chairs, growing orchard, herb and organic vegetable garden expand the living experience. The main room features a home theater with surround sound.

There are hikes right outside the door. The climate is temperate, with a gentle summer breeze.

Wonderful Place - Loved it

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house in Topanga canyon. It was exactly as described. The location while convenient to all the attractions in the Los Angeles area is in a beautiful peaceful area. Isabelle was very responsive to our needs and questions. I can't think of one thing that dissatisfied. Highly recommend and would stay there again without hesitation.

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

We chose this home for two reasons 1. Location, location, location! Lovely home with mountain views. Close to beaches. Easy drives to LA, Malibu, Calabasas and Santa Barbara. 2. We love old Hollywood so knowing this home formerly belonged to Mickey Rooney was cool. Isabelle is a gracious host and her enjoyment in decorating her home shows. The home evokes calm and tranquility-the perfect place to catch up on some rest and relaxation...

Owner's Response: Kathy, Stephanie and Hayley were wonderful guests. I met them briefly upon checking in, found them open, friendly, and low key. During their visit, they were quiet, independent, and maintenance free. They left the house in excellent condition, I could tell they took care of is as their own. As if that was not enough, they left me a beautiful gift with an appreciative note! I am happy to share this house with my visitors and thrilled when they are so receptive to all it has to offer. I highly recommend them and hope you get to host them too.

Would definitely stay here again

  • 5 of 5

Loved this cottage. Beautiful views from the porch. Very kid friendly with toys and books provided and plenty of room to explore in the backyard. The bedrooms are quite small but the roomy living room and well stocked kitchen make up for that. Lots of charm, comfortable furnishings and a wonderful, unobtrusive host. I hope we get to visit this cottage again!
