Walk into your secluded paradise in the beautiful Lower Keys. Our private waterfront home is located in the Port Pine Heights area of Big Pine Key surrounded by the Key Deer Sanctuary. It is a custom built spacious 2/2, fully updated inside and out. The home is tropically decorated and equipped with everything you need for a memorable fishing, diving or simply relaxing vacation.
The house is located at the end of the street, with a corner canal front lot and no neighbors near the house. Across one canal is the Key Deer Preserve and across the other canal are a few very quiet neighbors. Our waterway is half way between the Back Country and the open Atlantic. Flats fishing, reef fishing, snorkeling and diving are only a short boat ride away from our dock. No boat?.... fish for Mangrove Snappers right in our crystal clear canal.
Looe Key, one of the only living reefs in the US, is nearby and a series of patch reefs are practically in your back yard. The award winning Bahia Honda Beach is just a few miles away. Spend the day on the beach or swimming and diving in the clear warm waters of the Keys. 1/2 mile down the road is the Blue Hole a fresh water pond which is part of the Key Deer Preserve. The Port Heights neighborhood is 4.5 miles from the Overseas Highway and most all of the road to the neighborhood is undeveloped.
Bicycle or kayak around the streets or waterways of the quiet neighborhood. Relax overlooking the water on the second floor balcony patio. Enjoy the open water sunsets which are just a few blocks away and after dark the spectacular star and meteor show will surely amaze you.
Looking for something more exciting? Grab the best pizza at the world famous, historic No Name Pub just down the street; or Looe Key and Boomers Tiki bars are a short drive away on Ramrod Key. Take your boat to Kiki's Sandbar Restaurant on Pine Channel. It is only a 30 minute ride to Key West for dining, dancing, and live music. Historic Old Town Key West offers up nightly sunset celebrations, art, shopping, theatre and casual to fine dining all within walking distance of Duval Street.
Return from the exciting nightlife to your own quiet secluded home surrounded by the National Key Deer Refuge and the Great White Heron Refuge. Frequent sighting of these tiny gentle deer are common and across your canal is a fresh water pond where the Great White Heron sometimes roost for the night. Big Pine is one of the best birding locations you will ever experience. At dawn your tropical paradise adventure begins again. Many of the birds from the surrounding islands fly over the house on their way to their daily feeding grounds. Truly a memorable experience. You will be planning your return before you even leave.

Photo of Joe and Linda sailing off Key West. We love the quiet laid back Keys lifestyle. The boating, fishing swimming and diving is right in your back yard. We use our Keys home 6 months of the year.
Joe McCarthy purchased this villa in 2010
We raised our family in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in a little town called Sugar Hill. The North Country is a very beautiful quiet part of the world and we wanted a place equally as spectacular to spend our winters. When we found Big Pine Key we knew we had found our second home. The only regret we have is that we didn’t move here 20 years ago.
Big Pine Key has all amenities required a grocery store, bait shops, hardware stores (2) lumber yards (2). But if its a busy holiday weekend you can go to the Winn Dixie without going on Route 1. The locals are helpful and friendly. Big Pine has that small town feel, everyone knows everyone else, its very safe.
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our July 2016 month down at Joe and Linda's Big Pine Key home. The environment is warm and friendly and the location is fantastic for offshore (dolphin/tuna/reef fishing) and back country (lobster/spearfishing) adventures. The features that were especially appreciated: 1) secure storage for bikes, fishing tackle, and scuba equipment; 2) large bait freezer for ice, fish, lobster, and chum blocks; 3) secluded at end of street with plenty of car/trailer parking space; 4) kids loved the friendly deer in the back yard; and 5) skies with sooo many stars.
Joe made it very easy to communicate by phone or text for any questions or issues.
We had such a nice time, we are already booked for next year.
We stayed at Joe and Linda's house in Big Pine Key in the Month of June 2016 The house is located on a deep water canal with access to both the ocean and the gulf (no Bridges). So fishing, diving, snorkeling and any other water activities is in close proximity. You are also close to shopping, night life and many wonderful restaurants, locally or in Key West or Marathon. The house is clean and well equipped and the outdoor shower is fantastic. Joe and Linda are terrific owners and very accommodating. They respond immediately to any questions or concerns. In addition the neighborhood and neighbors couldn't be nicer. "A" definite recommend for a great vacation.
My Husband, Mother and I (from New Mexico) rented this house for the Month of April 2016, for some much needed rest and relaxation. It was clean, very comfortable, and very relaxing. Every morning was spent relaxing with our morning coffee while watching spectacular sun rises on the wrap around porch that faces the east then later on relaxing each night in the same spot to admire a sky full of stars. Great neighborhood, very safe and friendly neighbors. Enjoyed taking short walks to the end of the housing development to have an unobstructed view of amazing sunsets! Locations was very quiet as promised but yet close enough to travel to the other keys. Spent a few evenings in Key West enjoying the shopping & festivities in Mallory Square which was only a short drive away and took a couple of fishing and snorkeling charters from Islamorada and Marathon. House had everything that we needed to prepare meals and be comfortable. Joe & Linda (owners) were very personable and helpful if we had any questions. They offfered a lot of great suggestions for local hang outs and dinner. Most importantly we had no issues with the property and everything thing was just as pictures depicted. This was a first trip of ours to the Keys and planning on renting again next year and would highly recommend this rental.
Excellent accommodations great location
Home well stocked with everything you need
Shopping is only 10 minutes away
Would definitely come back
Everything was exactly as advertised. Nicely laid out house was neat and attractive, complete with every convenience. All appliances and furnishings in excellent condition. Location was peaceful, quiet and safe. Dockage and canal were more than adequate for my 20' boat. Fish cleaning table and bait freezer were very convenient. Owners Joe and Linda were very interested in providing a quality experience and were always quick to respond to my questions.
I was looking for a very quiet, secluded, well-kept place where I could finish a book I was ghostwriting and also do lots of swimming to prep for a surgery. Because of its location in the middle of one of few effective nature reserves in USA, this lodging was very quiet. Other than a few occasions when mosquito spray helicopters buzzed the treetops, neighbors carried on loud conversations outdoors, and a nuisance barking dog, this place was heaven. Close to Bahia Honda State Park, Winn Dixie, and a health food store, with lots of hiking trails and scenery. The owners communicated in reasonably timely fashion; the female owner is especially nice and genuine.
I had a disability and it was painful climbing the stairs.
The only not so good thing came after the end of my visit. Here's what I mean: I was a solo visitor and never used the stove, refrigerator, cookware, sink, etc. I only used 1 bedroom, and the bathroom. Before I left, I cleaned the place so it was way cleaner than when I had arrived. I was required to provide a substantial security deposit. In a phone call, I pointed out to the landlord that I would be a very low-impact visitor and I would leave the unit in better shape than I found it so that I would not be charged the mandatory cleaning fee. I never used the kitchen, refrigerator, or most of the house. I only slept there and used the bathroom. I spent a lot of time cleaning the unit. I used far less electricity, water (and caused far less wear and tear), than any tenants they'd ever had. But the landlords deducted a cleaning fee anyway, which came across to me as a form of avarice. Still, this home is way better than staying in a resort hotel, and it was a blessing in most ways.
