About the property

5 Bedrooms, 5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 12

The “Cygnet Cottage” began as a stable in the 1890s and has been lovingly owned and updated by just two families since. Today it boasts a spacious main house and guesthouse with beautiful hardwood floors throughout, country and antique furnishings, and a state-of-the-art kitchen. Located on a protected cove of beautiful Lake Monomonack, the Cygnet Cottage offers peace and privacy plus endless opportunities for entertainment and relaxation.

The rental, which includes both the main house and guesthouse, is perfect for up to four families. The five bedrooms and four full baths offer comfort and privacy, while the large living areas and kitchen are perfect for entertaining large groups.

A solar array on the guesthouse roof provides 100% of the cottage's yearly electricity, which helps minimize the cottage's carbon footprint.

The main house has two large bedrooms upstairs, one with a king bed and one with a queen. Each has its own full bath. The guesthouse has two large bedrooms with queen beds, a smaller bedroom with two single beds, and two full bathrooms. There are also two very comfortable foldout beds that can be set up as needed in either house. Every bedroom has sweeping lake views!

The rental includes everything needed to make your stay comfortable and easy: high-speed wireless internet, fresh bath towels and sheets, beach towels, silverware and glassware, cooking implements and serving pieces, a gas grill, and washer and dryer. Also included are a ping-pong table, flat-screen TV set and DVD player, Apple TV with Netflix subscription, stereo with iPod hookup, fishing rods and equipment, board games and books galore for kids and adults. Both houses have central air conditioning, though due to the mild climate, you most likely won't need it.

The lake is steps from the house. There is a sandy beach area along shore, a 30 foot wooden dock, and a wooden swim float 100 feet offshore. There are two kayaks, two canoes, a pedal boat, a row boat, and an inflatable zodiac boat. Life jackets, paddles and all other necessary boating equipment are also provided. You can stay in the cove or head out to explore the 700-acre main lake. Native to the lake are loons, mallard ducks, beavers, painted turtles, bullfrogs, bluegills, perch, pickerel, bass and a great blue heron that frequently buzzes the house.

Feel free to email with any questions; the Cygnet Cottage is a wonderful place to vacation!

Another wonderful relaxing week

  • 5 of 5

Everything was great. The lake is so peaceful without large powerboats. We will be back again next year.

July get-away on Lake Monomonack

  • 5 of 5

Our three families loved our stay at Cygnet Cottage. The property is as advertised. It's spacious, well maintained, clean and private. It has all kinds of boating options. My grandson loved fishing from the Zodiac and the dock. We all enjoyed the deck and the fire pit. We had a very relaxing stay and want to send out a big thank-you to Tara, the property manager, for her help after our delayed arrival. Would recommend this property for family gatherings or group get-aways. Hope to be able to visit Cygnet Cottage again. Thanks David Lagakos for being such a gracious host.

Absolutely Perfect!!!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our four family get away. The cottage and guest house had more than enough space and provided us all with our own bathroom. The home is beautiful, private, and had everything we could ask for. We had fun all week taking out the boats. The library of books was a great surprise. On days we wanted to go explore, shop, and eat out, the towns of Peterborough and Keene were close by and fun to visit. David and property manager Tara were great and were there to answer all questions quickly. We will definately be returning! Thank you for a great week!

Immaculate, clean, perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

Held a four generation family gathering at this very spacious property (12 of us). We had plenty of room, the house was well stocked with everything we needed (except food- we made 4 trips to Market Basket a few miles away!!).

The property is located in a small cove off the main lake, which was a blessing- the lake is very busy with boats and watercraft. My grandchildren and parents had a protected area to fish and kayak, and we all loved the added privacy.

We spent the week swimming, boating, and fishing. The fishing was GREAT- my granddaughter caught her first fish which we will both never forget!

Plenty to do- if we chose- but mostly this was a peaceful summer week, one we are still taking about a week later......

David is very responsive to inquiries and questions, and his property manager Tara had the house ready (even though we were early) and was readily available.

We do this every few years, and we picked a winner this year.

Thanks for everything!

Wonderful place for a gathering!

  • 5 of 5

Our family rented Cygnet Cottage for a long weekend as part of a 90th birthday celebration for our mother. The site is beautiful! and the houses clean and so comfortable, with big windows looking out onto the lake. David and Tara were excellent to work with and very responsive to our questions. We had a mellow gathering of about 25 folks for Mom's birthday brunch and people loved the deck and the big DR and LR for socializing. We brought extra dishes and chairs for the event but the kitchen is well-equipped for cooking and entertaining. We also used the canoes for several outings around the pretty lake (it would be great to have a couple of more adult-sized life vests on hand). My only comment would be that for older folks the property has a couple of challenges - all of the bedrooms are upstairs, and in the main house there are some steps between rooms (DR/entry down to kitchen, hallway to the bedrooms in the main house). Just something to be aware of if you have folks with mobility challenges. But we really enjoyed this rental and hope to come back some day!

Awesome golf getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for our annual golf outing over Columbus Day weekend and the house was everything we could have wanted it to be. It was perfect for 12 guests, there were plenty of places for everyone to sleep comfortably. It was also very nice having all the bathrooms to allow everyone to shower and get ready at the same time.

The property manager was very accommodating, she met us at the house right on time. The place was very clean and had everything you would ever need from pillows and blankets to kitchen utensils and everything in between. The outdoor area was beautiful, situated on a quiet section of the lake with a large deck that provided great views.

We will definitely look into this house again for future visits. Thank you David!
