About the property

5 Bedrooms, 5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 12

The “Cygnet Cottage” began as a stable in the 1890s and has been lovingly owned and updated by just two families since. Today it boasts a spacious main house and guesthouse with beautiful hardwood floors throughout, country and antique furnishings, and a state-of-the-art kitchen. Located on a protected cove of beautiful Lake Monomonack, the Cygnet Cottage offers peace and privacy plus endless opportunities for entertainment and relaxation.

The rental, which includes both the main house and guesthouse, is perfect for up to four families. The five bedrooms and four full baths offer comfort and privacy, while the large living areas and kitchen are perfect for entertaining large groups.

The main house has two large bedrooms upstairs, one with a king bed and one with a queen. Each has its own full bath. The guesthouse has two large bedrooms with queen beds, a smaller bedroom with two single beds, and two full bathrooms. There are also two very comfortable foldout beds that can be set up as needed in either house. Every bedroom has sweeping lake views!

The rental includes everything needed to make your stay comfortable and easy: high-speed wireless internet, fresh bath towels and sheets, beach towels, silverware and glassware, cooking implements and serving pieces, a gas grill, and washer and dryer. Also included are a ping-pong table, flat-screen TV set and DVD player, Apple TV with Netflix subscription, stereo with iPod hookup, fishing rods and equipment, board games and books galore for kids and adults. Both houses have central air conditioning, though due to the mild climate, you most likely won't need it.

The lake is steps from the house. There is a sandy beach area along shore, a 30 foot wooden dock, and a wooden swim float 100 feet offshore. There are two kayaks, two canoes, a pedal boat, a row boat, and an inflatable zodiac boat. Life jackets, paddles and all other necessary boating equipment are also provided. You can stay in the cove or head out to explore the 700-acre main lake. Native to the lake are loons, mallard ducks, beavers, painted turtles, bullfrogs, bluegills, perch, pickerel, bass and a great blue heron that frequently buzzes the house.

Feel free to email with any questions; the Cygnet Cottage is a wonderful place to vacation!

Wonderful place for a gathering!

  • 5 of 5

Our family rented Cygnet Cottage for a long weekend as part of a 90th birthday celebration for our mother. The site is beautiful! and the houses clean and so comfortable, with big windows looking out onto the lake. David and Tara were excellent to work with and very responsive to our questions. We had a mellow gathering of about 25 folks for Mom's birthday brunch and people loved the deck and the big DR and LR for socializing. We brought extra dishes and chairs for the event but the kitchen is well-equipped for cooking and entertaining. We also used the canoes for several outings around the pretty lake (it would be great to have a couple of more adult-sized life vests on hand). My only comment would be that for older folks the property has a couple of challenges - all of the bedrooms are upstairs, and in the main house there are some steps between rooms (DR/entry down to kitchen, hallway to the bedrooms in the main house). Just something to be aware of if you have folks with mobility challenges. But we really enjoyed this rental and hope to come back some day!

Awesome golf getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for our annual golf outing over Columbus Day weekend and the house was everything we could have wanted it to be. It was perfect for 12 guests, there were plenty of places for everyone to sleep comfortably. It was also very nice having all the bathrooms to allow everyone to shower and get ready at the same time.

The property manager was very accommodating, she met us at the house right on time. The place was very clean and had everything you would ever need from pillows and blankets to kitchen utensils and everything in between. The outdoor area was beautiful, situated on a quiet section of the lake with a large deck that provided great views.

We will definitely look into this house again for future visits. Thank you David!

We booked Cygnet Cottage for a long weekend for our daughters' wedding. The houses were exactly as the pictures portrayed. Large rooms, that accommodated the 12 of us easily. Beautiful lake views from every window. The house was stocked with everything you could want or need. Everyone had a wonderful time kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and paddle boating. We would definitely go back again, it is the perfect get away! Thank You, David, for opening your home for others to enjoy!

Wonderful home at a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at the wonderful Cygnet Cottage and the house and guest house were just as lovely the second time. We stayed for two weeks and really were very sad to leave again this year. In fact, we have already reserved it again for next summer. What brings us back? Great house, well furnished in every room, lovely and very functional and clean kitchen, cabinets full of spices, drawers with lots of clean dishtowels, utensils, and lovely sets of dishes. The linen closet is filled with thick towels and 100% cotton sheets. And every bed is made and ready for our arrival. The guest house is separate from the main house so our guests have privacy and lovely rooms and there are two bathrooms in the guest house! All bedrooms face the lake so all of us can wake each morning with views of the lake that includes a morning mist floating over the water. Tara, the site manager, greets us each year with cheer and well wishes and presents us with a basket of local vegetables and a bottle of delicious olive oil. Boats, kayaks, even a pedal boat are provided and the dock and lake are clean and provide wonderful morning and late afternoon boat rides and swims. The property is gorgeous, very private and well maintained and the little beach was perfect for our granddaughter who is 18 months old. There is soft sand, shallow water and the water was warm enough for her to sit and play for hours. The surrounding area is abundant with hiking trails, grocery stores, unique shops, great restaurants (we usually had great meals at the house). And the local Kimball Farms' lobster rolls, fried clams and ICE CREAM are worth the trip to New Hampshire. We added some very special trips this year - we visited Keene and hiked at the Andrus Art Institute which includes over 100 beautiful sculptures from all over the world. There are mountains to climb, lovely trials in many places, several state parks nearby and Peterborough is a gem. David obviously loves his New Hampshire home and it really shows in his choice of decoration and care for his houses and property. We cannot thank David and Tara enough for giving our family and all of our guests such a very special vacation. We have been home for almost a week and we still miss this real paradise.
