About the property

Villa, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8);1 king bed, 3 queens, 1 single + more

This villa has a Balinese owner and is managed beautifully by Made (see photo below). I help them find short term renters when I am out of town. Rental proceeds go to the owner.

NOTE: The Royal Family of Ubud is building a large resort spa next to this lovely villa, hence the 50% discount. Construction takes place between 8am and 5pm and can be quite noisy. Our driver Wayan and housekeeper Made can help you plan your outings into Ubud or around Bali so that you are not disturbed. At this time, this villa is most suitable for those planning outings between 8-5. After 5pm until 8am, it is peaceful and quiet as usual.

The photo below is of Made, the housekeeper. You will love her!

Enjoy! The spacious flower-filled garden, and salt water pool.

Both Wayan and Made speak English and their aim is to make your visit a once in a lifetime experience. They are amazing!

'Made' comes for 5 hours per day, 6 days a week to prepare your breakfast and clean. She will also help with shopping, laundry and cooking additional meals - just about anything you need and you can negotiate a fee with her if this takes her over her 5 hour work day. Her rates are very low. She speaks English and can help you with your every need including ordering restaurant delivery, drivers, tour guides, car rentals, mobile phone sim cards, massages - pretty much anything you need.

The driver, Wayan has served as our English speaking driver for years and the guests love him, his gentle ways, and his knowledge of the island. Guests call him and pay (very reasonable rates) on an as needed basis.

Description of villa: This large, spacious villa is 2km north of the Royal Palace - a 7 min scooter drive drive from downtown Ubud.

The villa is faced with river rock and is a combination of open-air Balinese and Dutch Colonial with a wrap around veranda, garden with 9x3 meter saltwater pool, and a renovated traditional Balinese Lumbong which serves as the 3rd bedroom and bath and chill zone - also a kitchenette. The garden is walled off and quite lush with foliage and flowers.

There are 2 air conditioned bedroom + bathroom suites in the main villa. Each includes a seating area, a desk and sliding glass doors leading to the verandah or balcony(upstairs). Each can accommodate additional mattresses on the floor for extra guests.

The upstairs bedroom (with A.C.) is filled with windows, sunlight, and a covered balcony. It's a large room with a mosquito covered king sized hand carved bed overlooking the jungle, tree tops, seating area, and antique desk & chair. Ensuite bathroom with tub/shower combo. There is a lovely rice paddy view from the balcony.

The downstairs bedroom (with A.C.), looks out into the garden and pool, and has sliding glass doors to the veranda on one side, large antique doors to the verandah and pool on the other. This room has an antique Javanese 4-poster bed with mosquito net. It is a large bedroom with custom made floor cushions for relaxing or use as an extra bed. Cushions are made of antique batik fabric. Large ensuite bathroom is lined in volcanic rock and features a tub/shower combination and separate large rainfall shower, and of course a sink and toilet.

The guest house is like a tree house - in actuality it is a renovated traditional Balinese Lumbong. It features a queen sized bed with mosquito net. Walls are woven palm and the roof is Ylang-Ylang. Windows are hand carved shutters and the door and floors are antique wood. This traditional Balinese Lumbong "breathes", but we've added a ceiling fan for your comfort.

Underneath the guesthouse is a open air kitchenette and chill area/queen bed on platform with mosquito net and bamboo shades which can be lowered around the lower bale for privacy.

Attached to the Lumbong, downstairs, is a lovely garden bathroom . Enjoy showering under the waterfall shower next to a coconut tree!

There are carved Balinese statues throughout the garden, and the beds are made of antique Javanese wood. In total there are 3 queen beds 1 king, and extra twin mattresses which can be put on the floor.

The kitchen: The kitchen is roomy with a walk in pantry and includes a Vitamix blender, a juicer and dehydrator, and everything you need for yummy, healthy tropical fare. Breakfast is included in the rate, and Made can whip up whatever you like for lunch or dinner for a very small fee. Don't see what you need? Just ask.

The kitchen has a full size refrigerator with freezer and cook top stove. It is partially open to the jungle, garden, and a small inner courtyard, with a window to the dining room.

The dining room is on a lowered section of the veranda just off the kitchen overlooking the garden. There is another table with chairs and umbrella in the the garden.

This is a 3-bedroom villa including the guesthouse. The lower section of the guesthouse can be used as an optional 4th bedroom for larger groups. Bamboo blinds can be lowered for privacy.

We also have extra mattresses that can be used in the large bedrooms of the main house. This house is most comfortable for 3 singles or 3 couples, but can sleep sleep up to 8.

Salon: The common living area is on the wide covered, wrap-around porch, in typical "open" Balinese style, surrounded by butterflies flitting in and out, squirrels scampering up coconut trees, and a lush garden.

There are several seating areas on the long L-shaped veranda and a fish pond with koi at one end. Lots of ceiling fans for staying cool.

Laundry room: There is a small laundry room containing a washing machine and dryer which you may use.

The Bali Buddha Villa is the perfect combination of modern and open air Balinese with lush tropical garden. It is a partially open style and with lots of windows to provide natural cooling. There are ceiling fans throughout. There is A.C. in both bedrooms in the main villa, but I rarely use it, and many of my guests don't either. The wrap around verandah with multiple ceiling fans helps the villa to stay cool and shaded.

In addition: There is a landline telephone and Wifi/Internet.

Pool: Refreshingly free of chemicals as it is a salt water pool. 9 X 3 meters.

Transportation and tours: Airport pickup is included for one car (6 passengers). Also available for reasonable rates, are shuttles into town. We can also provide you with driver/guides for any trips you may wish to take to other parts of the island. If you would like to have a driver on call, this can be arranged for a reasonable fee.

Scooter rental (recommended!) is $6 per day. Auto rental about $25 per day. Car rental + driver averages about $40 half day, $80 full day, and about $5 per trip into town.

There is an affectionate house kitty named Cleopatra. It is essential in Bali to have a house cat as they keep the rice paddy rats at bay.

About Robin Sparks

My name Made. I do everything to make you happy during your stay in Bali.

The managers of our Turkish flats are managed by Elif and Marco and they'll be the ones who reply to your inquiry.

Robin Sparks purchased this villa in 2010

Why Robin Sparks chose Ubud

Close to town, nice "antique colonial" style villa + the traditional Balinese Lumbong guesthouse, lush garden and great energy.

It stays cooler than many houses due to its location and the wrap around porch with multiple ceiling fans.

There is A.C in both main bedrooms, and a washer and dryer.

Do note the construction project next door, and if you rent this villa, please do so, knowing that it may be noisy between 8-5.

What makes this villa unique

A saltwater pool, verandah, easy access to town while getting to live in a rural area. 'Made' can make delicious fresh healthy juices and food. Fresh juices and/or smoothies or bowl of fresh fruit with muesli each morning if you like. Lunches, dinners, and/or picnics can also be arranged with Made.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Robin,

Your villa is wonderful, we could not be happier! It's a great spot to go walking from and we love that you can cut through the rice fields to Sari Organik in 10 minutes. Made has been excellent, not only making delicious breakfasts but just generally being cheerful and helpful.

Ubud is busier than ever but still as soon as you walk ten minutes out of town it's peaceful, the people are friendly and everything looks green and beautiful.

I'm sitting on your verandah watching the birds and lizards, listening to the roosters and contemplating a swim. So really what could be better!

We have all fallen for Cleopatra, who has been alternating between laps, purring like crazy and who I think is presently asleep upstairs with my daughter.

Amazing retreat! Fantasic people!

  • 5 of 5

First, the house is very beautiful and our family of 5 enjoyed all the spaces. We didn't mind the construction nearby at all since our kids were loud when playing in the pool. The outdoor bathroom/shower is amazing! There are many spaces to relax outdoors and just read books. The furnishing are really beautiful. We commented that it felt like the home was Balinese with western amenities. Made, the housekeeper, is so kind and always ready to help. I enjoyed spending time chatting with her. Wayan was a fantastic driver who was very happy to teach us about Balinese culture. He made many suggestions that were all amazing. The restaurants he took us to where fabulous and stunning experiences. We took full advantage of our time at this home just outside of Ubud.

Oasis in the middle of beautiful Bali (but not really for 8 ppl)

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the villa. Robin was great with communication. Made, the housekeeper, was delightful and became a great friend. Wayan, the driver, was knowledgeable, friendly, and spoke great English with a fantastic accent (almost sounded Aussie). Though, I probably wouldn't suggest having 8 people stay here again. We had 5 people in the main house and 3 in the "treehouse." My sister and niece slept next to the pool. There was a mosquito net, but they still got bit a lot and the jungle was pretty noisy at night. We tried to be out of the house during the day because of the construction, but sometimes we got home early and the construction didn't stop until 6pm some days so those in the treehouse couldn't nap because of the construction noise and couldn't use their bathroom because it was out where the construction workers could see. Also, the electricity struggled to handle 8 people. We tripped the circuit at least 1-2 per day, mostly because someone showered (which turned on the water pump) at the same time the AC was running. We just had to flip the switch, so it wasn't too bad, just a little annoying. With a smaller group, this villa really is an oasis in the middle of Bali.

Great Location, Great Price and Great Place

  • 4 of 5

We were two families, a total of 7 people staying over New Years. We really enjoyed our stay and the spaciousness of the villa. Robin was very easy to communicate with and Wayan and Made were very helpful, both with rides or meals. The villa is a beautiful and unique place to stay and we enjoyed the pool very much. We found the location very convenient as we could walk into central Ubud and passed by a few restaurants on the way and it was only a short cab ride home.

We loved it so much we came back and stayed at the end of our vacation!

  • 5 of 5

First of all, the fact that Robin, the owner, contacted me personally via email to keep communication timely was a bonus. And the description was very accurate to what was provided. Bali Buddha Villa was extremely clean and well-maintained. Made our cook and house cleaner was so sweet, lovely and warmed up to us quickly and did a good job with breakfast every morning and housekeeping.

We lucked out with our driver as the usual driver was who provides transportation for Bali Buddha Villa had a cremation ceremony to attend. Made Suweta was not only a great driver, but a fabulous and knowledgeable guide and now new friend. I loved that he shared his culture, his religious ceremonies, and his world with us. Made took great care of my Ibu and my friend and me.

We loved this property! We loved it so much we didn't want to leave and actually came back for a second round later in our stay. The rooms were nicely decorated, the beds spacious and comfortable and there always was plenty of hot water for showers.

There was a lovely private pool that I enjoyed every morning. And Cleopatra, the sweet and snuggly house kitty was a definite bonus!

During our stay, there was a little bit of all night work on the property next door. But next the day after I mentioned something to them, they stopped working before we went to bed. I was very grateful.

We loved the location, out of the craziness of Ubud, but close enough to take short taxi rides downtown, if needed. Although, it was a challenge for delivery food people to find us, we laughed at my butchering the Indonesian language as I read off the directions on how to get to Bali Buddha Villa that were so graciously provided to us. Nonetheless, the restaurants eventually found us.

I would highly recommend this lovely place to anyone and hope to visit again soon!

Peaceful retreat outside of Ubud.

  • 4 of 5

My family of five stayed at Robin's lovely Bali Buddha Villa in June of 2016. Although we arrived after dark, we could tell right away that there was a serene vibe about the place. It truly feels as if you are a world away, even though you are a relatively short drive into the center of Ubud. Our girls stayed in the lower bedroom of the main house, which had plenty of space and a lovely bathroom. My husband and I stayed upstairs in the "master", with a nice view of the garden and small balcony. Both of these bedrooms have A/C, which was a welcome treat in the heat! The only drawback was the fact that the only access to the second floor bedroom was via a narrow spiral staircase, making it impossibly to heft a suitcase upstairs. We ended up leaving our suitcases in our daughters' room, which was less than ideal but workable. Our son was thrilled with his bedroom, located upstairs in a separate building -- almost like a "treehouse", which he found to be a great hideaway. Unfortunately, he was eaten up by mosquitoes as there is no A/C in this room and lots of gaps in between walls and roof. He didn't seem to mind much, but I think it is important to note.

The staff of this villa are wonderful. Made comes each morning to prepare a simple breakfast (although we got her to make some delicious Mie Goreng one morning, which was exceptional), and tends to the housekeeping aspects. She is such a sweet and lovely person. The driver, Wayan, became a wonderful resource for us during our stay. He picked us up at the airport (included in stay) and then also drove us to various sights around the island for the duration of our time at the villa (for additional, but very reasonable cost). He patiently answered our many questions, and provided us incredible insights into Balinese life and culture. We found him to be a fabulous companion during our stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our brief time at Bali Buddha Villa!

Owner's Response: Dear Linda, I am so happy to hear that your family enjoyed your stay at the Bali Buddha Villa. And it was wonderful to hear that you enjoyed Made and Wayan. They are truly both the most amazing, kind and helpful people. I am very lucky to have them working at the villa. I'm glad you enjoyed the A.C.! By the way, there are 2 staircases leading to the upstairs room. Over the laundry room, the stairs are straight and much easier for taking luggage up. Made and/or Wayan happily carry luggage upstairs for our guests so I'm not sure what the disconnect was. It sounds like you created a workable solution. I'm glad your son enjoyed the traditional (but renovated) Balinese Lumbong up in the trees. There is a good mosquito net on that bed, which if closed before sundown will keep away from sleeping guests, while allowing breezes to move through the bedroom. There is also a fan above the door which if kept on high speed also keeps mosquitos out. I'll remind Made and Wayan to show our future guests these features. Thank you so much for choosing to stay at the Bali Buddha Villa. We'd love to have you back on your next visit to Ubud. Robin

Gorgeous Balinese Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Spent my 30th birthday at Robin's Villa with 4 girlfriends. From the minute I 1st contracted Robin I knew it was going to be a trip of a lifetime. Robin herself was very responsive and informative. Her wealth of knowledge of not only Ubud but Bali itself was refreshing. We connected with Wayan, the recommended driver. Arriving after 1AM from Hong Kong, Wayan was at the airport patiently waiting for our group. We came to Bali with no plan. We told him what we wanted to do and he planned out the perfect 3 days for us in Ubud. From the Mt Butar hike to the hot springs, elephant park, Money Sanctuary, trip to the Ubud Market. We did it all.

The Villa itself was picturesque. Made, the housekeeper would make us a traditional Balinese breakfast every morning and for a few IDR, she would shop the local market and cook lunch or dinner. Definitely worth it! Thank you Robin for making by 30th birthday in Bali a trip to remember

Just 7 minutes to Ubud - far away enough to be out of Ubud's hectic tourist filled center & close enough to get there easily when you want to.

NOTE: The Royal Family of Ubud is building a resort spa next door and construction takes place between 8-5. Hence, the sizable discount.

If you plan your outings during the day (and we can help with this), the construction will not disturb you. Aside from the daytime construction, it's a magical villa. The downstairs room is the quietest for day nappers. The upstairs room in main villa has most expansive views. The guesthouse is charming, but do note that construction is near by.

There are a handful of cafes and restaurants within walking distance and Ubud's 700 restaurants a 7 min drive into Ubud. Many of them will deliver to the villa.

The main palace and banjar is located on the same street as this villa as well as several 5 star hotels.

Lots of beautiful rice paddy walks in the area. Made, the housekeeper will show you, and she can arrange anything you want. Including massages, additional meals cooked just for you, private yoga instruction and much more.

More info about the villa:

This villa is on the same street where all the village's main evening traditional Balinese performances are held and on the same street as Ubud's main palace.

Best to rent a scooter for easy access into town, as there are sidewalks only on part of the road and traffic is pretty intense during the day. We can arrange a driver of either a car, and/or motorcycle taxi to be on call for you.

Note that Ubud is not much of a walking town and there are few walking or bicycle lanes. There are however, numerous paths through the rice paddys near the house but they are mostly for ambience and pleasure as opposed to actually getting into town quickly.

We provide a list of drivers, massage places (even one who will come to the house), guides, restaurants that deliver, and much more. Made can help you with all your desires...rice paddy walks, tour guides to take you anywhere, car and scooter rental... She is there 3 hrs per day, 6 days per week, to prepare breakfast, clean and can be hired to prepare additional meals and do laundry at very reasonable rates.
