|Minimum Stay||2 - 5 nights|
Note: I help the Balinese owner of this villa (I have a long term lease) find short term renters when I am out of town. All rental proceeds go to her.
Enjoy! The spacious flower-filled garden, salt water pool, lovely setting, gorgeous rice paddy and jungle views will delight your every sense.
Besides its beautiful location near town, what makes this villa a dream villa is the housekeeper "Made" and the driver "Wayan". Both speak English and their aim is to make your visit a once in a lifetime experience. They are amazing!
The large, spacious villa is 2km north of the Royal Palace - a 7 min drive from downtown Ubud.
The villa: This stately river rock-faced villa is a combination of open-air Balinese and Dutch Colonial with a wrap around veranda, garden with 9x3 meter saltwater pool, and a guest house in a traditional Balinese Lumbong. There are 2 bedroom suites in the main villa, each with A.C., seating areas, desks, and ensuite bathrooms.
Upstairs bedroom has A.C. and is filled with windows, sunlight, and a private covered balcony overlooking the jungle and rice paddies. Very large room with mosquito covered king sized bed overlooking the jungle, seating area, and antique desk overlooking the pool. Ensuite bathroom with tub/shower combo.
The downstairs bedroom also with A.C., looks out into the jungle and the garden and pool, and has sliding glass doors to the veranda on one side, large antique doors to the verandah and pool on the other. This room has an antique Javanese 4-poster bed with mosquito net. It is a very large bedroom with custom made floor cushions for relaxing or extra bed. Cushions are made of antique batik fabric. Large ensuite bathroom is lined in volcanic rock and features a tub/shower combination and separate large rainfall shower, and of course a sink and toilet.
The guest house is like a tree house - in actuality it is a renovated traditional Balinese Lumbong. It features a queen sized bed with mosquito net and overlooks the pool and jungle. Walls are woven palm and the roof is Ylang-Ylang. Windows are hand carved shutters and the door and floors are antique wood.
Underneath the guesthouse is a open air kitchenette and chill area/queen bed on platform with mosquito net and bamboo shades which can be lowered around the lower bale for privacy.
Attached to the Lumbong, downstairs, is and a lovely partially open to the sky garden bathroom . Enjoy showering under the waterfall shower under a palm tree and the stars.
The main villa is a solid, well built villa with old wood doors, wood framed windows, rock facing, and tile floors throughout.
There are carved Balinese statues throughout the garden, and the beds are made of antique Javanese wood. In total there are 3 queen beds 1 king, and extra twin mattresses which can be put on the floor.
The kitchen: The kitchen is large with a walk in pantry and includes a Vitamix blender, a juicer and dehydrator, and everything you need for yummy, healthy tropical fare. Breakfast is included in the rate, and Made can whip up whatever you like for lunch or dinner for a very small fee. Don't see what you need? Just ask.
The kitchen has a full size refrigerator with freezer and cook top stove. It is partially open to the jungle and a small inner courtyard, with a window to the dining room.
The dining room is on a lowered section of the veranda just off the kitchen overlooking the garden & jungle views. There is another table with chairs and umbrella in the middle of the garden.
More details about the bedrooms: The downstairs floor of the main villa consists of a large air conditioned bedroom , lounge area, and desk and chair. The bed is queen sized and is a traditional hand carved Javanese 4-poster bed with mosquito net - this bed can be used as a couch and the entire downstairs used as an indoor salon if not needed as a bedroom. Walk right out of the sliding glass doors onto the veranda. The ensuite bathroom is large and features lava rock walls, a large circular open shower, a terrazzo tub, and sink area. Charming!
The upstairs bedroom room also has A.C., high ceilings, jungle views, its own separate entrance, large, desk, seating area, and a balcony through sliding glass doors with table and chairs. Lots of windows and light in this room, 2 ceiling fans, lovely breezes, mosquito netting on the windows + A.C. In addition to the king sized hand carved teak bed with mosquito net, the upstairs bedroom has a reading area and a lovely wood desk - this area can be closed off from the sleeping area with curtains. There is an ensuite bathroom with sink and a terrazo shower/bath combo.
The traditional, charming Balinese lumbung guest house has a queen bed up in the trees and its own kitchenette below, garden bathroom, and additional sleeping bale below. It is just a few steps from the pool and has lovely views of the jungle. Shower under the stars in the a tropical garden bathroom.
This is a 3-bedroom villa including the guesthouse. The lower section of the guesthouse can be used as an optional 4th bedroom for larger groups. Bamboo blinds can be lowered for privacy.
We also have extra mattresses that can be used in the large bedrooms of the main house. This house is most comfortable for 3 singles or 3 couples, but can sleep up to 8.
Salon: The common living area is on the wide covered, wrap-around porch, surrounded by the audio and visual delights of the jungle, butterflies flitting in and out, squirrels scampering up coconut trees, and more. There are several seating areas on the long L-shaped veranda and a fish pond with koi at one end. Lovely garden lighting, and another table, chairs & umbrella in the garden. Lots of ceiling fans for staying cool. Great ambience day and night.
Laundry room: There is a small laundry room containing a washing machine and dryer which you may use.
Setting: The best part is this villa is its setting on the edge of the jungle where you can watch wildlife from the comfort a large covered porch. Five minutes drive from central Ubud.
The Bali Buddha Villa is the perfect combination of modern and open air Balinese with lush tropical garden. It is a partially open style and I strive to keep it an eco conscious villa with ceiling fans throughout & lots of windows to provide natural cooling. There is A.C. in both bedrooms in the main villa, but often because Ubud's nights and mornings are cool, A.C. is not needed. The wrap around verandah (also with ceiling fans) helps the villa to stay cool and shaded.
In addition: There is a landline telephone and Wifi/Internet.
Pool: Refreshingly free of chemicals as it is a salt water pool. 9 X 3 meters.
Staff: 'Made' my house angel, comes for 5 hours per day, 6 days a week to prepare your breakfast and clean. She will also help with shopping, laundry and cooking additional meals - just about anything you need and you can negotiate a fee with her if this takes her over her 5 hour work day. Her rates are very low. She speaks English and can help you with your every need including ordering restaurant delivery, drivers, tour guides, car rentals, mobile phone sim cards, etc.
There is a gardener who comes 3 times a week to keep the garden gorgeous. He is quiet and usually comes and goes without notice early in the morning.
We have several wonderful drivers at your disposal. They all speak English and are incredibly helpful and very reasonably priced.
Property Management Company: There is a property management company oversees the villa and can help with anything that can’t be handled by the housekeeper or Wayan, the driver.
Transportation and tours: Airport pickup is included. Also available for reasonable rates, are shuttles into town. We can also provide you with driver/guides for any trips you may wish to take to other parts of the island. If you would like to have a driver on call, this can be arranged for a reasonable fee.
Scooter rental (recommended!) is $5 per day. Auto rental about $25 per day. Car rental + driver averages about $35 half day, $70 full day, and about $5 per trip into town.
There is an affectionate house kitty named Cleopatra.

You will love The Bali Buddha Villa in Ubud, Bali! This villa has amazing energy that I have not found anywhere else in Ubud or the world. :)
I am a travel writer who writes about the nomadic community of expats and about the things that connect us wherever we live on the globe. I have a company based in Istanbul called Oneworld ltd to connect Westerners with Middle Easterners and Southeast Asians. I help the Balinese owners of this villa in Ubud, by renting it out for them when I am not there. Rents go to the owners.
I love Bali and I cherish the peaceful beautiful vibe that is my home here, and I am certain you will too.
Robin Sparks purchased this villa in 2010
I chose this neighborhood because it is the perfect combination of what I seek in a home abroad. Near town and authentic accommodation ( not a McMansion or concrete condo plopped in the rice paddies as so many new Ubud villas sadly are!), central location, jungle and rice paddy setting, and living that combines the indoors and the outdoors with beautiful views. There is an amazing peaceful energy here!
It stays cool due to its location and the wrap around porch.
Mostly though I love this house for its serene, off-the-road setting, and easy access to Ubud. The salt water pool is wonderful and the garden lush. Sitting on the verandah next to the jungle is divine.
A saltwater pool, verandah, easy access to town while getting to live in a rural authentic area. 'Made' can make delicious fresh healthy juices and food. Fresh juices and/or smoothies or bowl of fresh fruit with muesli each morning if you like. Lunches, dinners, and/or picnics can also be arranged with Made.
Beauty beyond belief combined with easy access to central Ubud, just 7 min drive away.
Your villa is wonderful, we could not be happier! It's a great spot to go walking from and we love that you can cut through the rice fields to Sari Organik in 10 minutes. Made has been excellent, not only making delicious breakfasts but just generally being cheerful and helpful.
Ubud is busier than ever but still as soon as you walk ten minutes out of town it's peaceful, the people are friendly and everything looks green and beautiful.
I'm sitting on your verandah watching the birds and lizards, listening to the roosters and contemplating a swim. So really what could be better!
We have all fallen for Cleopatra, who has been alternating between laps, purring like crazy and who I think is presently asleep upstairs with my daughter.
First of all, the fact that Robin, the owner, contacted me personally via email to keep communication timely was a bonus. And the description was very accurate to what was provided. Bali Buddha Villa was extremely clean and well-maintained. Made our cook and house cleaner was so sweet, lovely and warmed up to us quickly and did a good job with breakfast every morning and housekeeping.
We lucked out with our driver as the usual driver was who provides transportation for Bali Buddha Villa had a cremation ceremony to attend. Made Suweta was not only a great driver, but a fabulous and knowledgeable guide and now new friend. I loved that he shared his culture, his religious ceremonies, and his world with us. Made took great care of my Ibu and my friend and me.
We loved this property! We loved it so much we didn't want to leave and actually came back for a second round later in our stay. The rooms were nicely decorated, the beds spacious and comfortable and there always was plenty of hot water for showers.
There was a lovely private pool that I enjoyed every morning. And Cleopatra, the sweet and snuggly house kitty was a definite bonus!
During our stay, there was a little bit of all night work on the property next door. But next the day after I mentioned something to them, they stopped working before we went to bed. I was very grateful.
We loved the location, out of the craziness of Ubud, but close enough to take short taxi rides downtown, if needed. Although, it was a challenge for delivery food people to find us, we laughed at my butchering the Indonesian language as I read off the directions on how to get to Bali Buddha Villa that were so graciously provided to us. Nonetheless, the restaurants eventually found us.
I would highly recommend this lovely place to anyone and hope to visit again soon!
My family of five stayed at Robin's lovely Bali Buddha Villa in June of 2016. Although we arrived after dark, we could tell right away that there was a serene vibe about the place. It truly feels as if you are a world away, even though you are a relatively short drive into the center of Ubud. Our girls stayed in the lower bedroom of the main house, which had plenty of space and a lovely bathroom. My husband and I stayed upstairs in the "master", with a nice view of the garden and small balcony. Both of these bedrooms have A/C, which was a welcome treat in the heat! The only drawback was the fact that the only access to the second floor bedroom was via a narrow spiral staircase, making it impossibly to heft a suitcase upstairs. We ended up leaving our suitcases in our daughters' room, which was less than ideal but workable. Our son was thrilled with his bedroom, located upstairs in a separate building -- almost like a "treehouse", which he found to be a great hideaway. Unfortunately, he was eaten up by mosquitoes as there is no A/C in this room and lots of gaps in between walls and roof. He didn't seem to mind much, but I think it is important to note.
The staff of this villa are wonderful. Made comes each morning to prepare a simple breakfast (although we got her to make some delicious Mie Goreng one morning, which was exceptional), and tends to the housekeeping aspects. She is such a sweet and lovely person. The driver, Wayan, became a wonderful resource for us during our stay. He picked us up at the airport (included in stay) and then also drove us to various sights around the island for the duration of our time at the villa (for additional, but very reasonable cost). He patiently answered our many questions, and provided us incredible insights into Balinese life and culture. We found him to be a fabulous companion during our stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed our brief time at Bali Buddha Villa!
Spent my 30th birthday at Robin's Villa with 4 girlfriends. From the minute I 1st contracted Robin I knew it was going to be a trip of a lifetime. Robin herself was very responsive and informative. Her wealth of knowledge of not only Ubud but Bali itself was refreshing. We connected with Wayan, the recommended driver. Arriving after 1AM from Hong Kong, Wayan was at the airport patiently waiting for our group. We came to Bali with no plan. We told him what we wanted to do and he planned out the perfect 3 days for us in Ubud. From the Mt Butar hike to the hot springs, elephant park, Money Sanctuary, trip to the Ubud Market. We did it all.
The Villa itself was picturesque. Made, the housekeeper would make us a traditional Balinese breakfast every morning and for a few IDR, she would shop the local market and cook lunch or dinner. Definitely worth it! Thank you Robin for making by 30th birthday in Bali a trip to remember
I live in the busy, bustling area of Legian in South Bali, so when my mom came to visit I wanted somewhere completely different to show her and get away from the crowds. This is the jungle home of my dreams! Quiet with an amazing pool and lush green grounds, with an absolutely gorgeous upstairs bedroom that I'm dying to return to already.
Made is so kind and made us breakfast each morning, and Wayan was such a sweet soul with a wealth of knowledge about the island and Balinese history and culture. So stoked to have found this place! Would absolutely return again, no doubt about it.
We spent one fantastic and memorable week at the Bali Buddha Villa, as a Canadian family of five on a Christmas retreat from Shanghai. The writerly description Robin provides, is spot on. The location, so private and serene, and the spacious house, and gorgeous (perfectly--but not overly-- manicured) property is a marvellous place to return to after exciting days exploring the beautiful Ubud. It is a true tribute to the beauty that surrounds. The salt water pool was a refreshing escape from tropical afternoons spent exploring rice paddies, zip lining and white water rafting. The house kitty Cleopatra was more than happy to curl up in our laps purring, as we watched movies on starry nights, on the expansive verandah, while geckos and frogs chirped in the background. We were more than spoiled by the attentions of the Villa staff. True treasures, Made and Wayan, made us feel at home and well cared for. Made makes excellent food on request, and provided a lovely breakfast each morning. Wayan is a wealth of information and a very reliable and safe driver. He had no problem collecting us after our 2am arrival and bringing us to the villa with enthusiasm. At one point the Villa phone wasn't working and because he couldn't get a hold of us regarding our next day plans, he sent Made (at 9pm) with a cell phone for our use during our trip. Above and beyond their job requirements and most appreciated! Ubud has a lot to offer including excellent restaurants, adventure and beautiful sites. Wayan can recommend many wonderful places. I would not hesitate to book again, this jungle gem in the midst of rice paddies, in Ubud.
i have written this review more than a few times in my head. Even with my journalist background, finding the right words to describe Bali Buddha Villa have been elusive. We arrived in the pitch black and really could not be prepared for what would greet us in the light of day. Despite being only a five minute taxi ride to busy and bustling Ubud, the villa is the epitome of tranquility where you can dive into a good book, splash in the amazing pool, relax with your family (or just yourself) or simply marvel at the lush scenery.
Our entourage included our 12 year old daughter, 19 year old son and my 72 year old mother. We all fell in love not just with this stunning villa but also with Made who was far beyond our cook or cleaner. She became a friend who we relied heavily on to ensure every detail of our bucket list trip was take care of.
Our driver (also Made) was brilliant. He was there to greet us at the airport and fast became another friend we won't soon forget. He politely picked us up daily to show us the various sites of Ubud and beyond. His pride for Bali and the traditions and customs of the Balinese people was infectious. Made took us on the most amazing walk through the rice fields that are easily accessed from town. Every outing and drive was insightful and informative. We never felt rushed or pressured in anyway. His quiet demeanour was the perfect compliment to the laid back but often chaotic pace of Bali life.
After a day of touring or shopping, it was incredibly special to return to Robin's beautiful oasis in the rice fields and jungle. Made made us delicious breakfasts every morning and very often we asked her to make us dinners too. She took care of us on every level from doing our laundry to arranging for massages.
Robin very patiently answered all of my questions before our arrival...and there were a LOT. If I can offer any advice, don't be like me and try to hyper plan things before you get to Bali. Relax and allow yourself to slide into the pace of this beautiful island. You will be in excellent hands and will absolutely not be disappointed. Oh...and learn a little Bahasa or Indonesian. The true gift of Bali is her people. I wish we could have communicated better.
We are already looking forward to returning to this incredible villa. It was so much more than a place to stay. It was an important part of our dream holiday.
Suksma Robin, Made and Made...Wayan too. Hugs to Cleo too!
Just 7 minutes to Ubud, and just far away enough to be out of Ubud's hectic tourist filled center and experience a rural setting. There is a cafe about 5 minutes walk, a coffee shop even closer, and numerous restaurants a 7 min drive up the street. Many of them will deliver to the villa. The main palace and banjar is located on the same street as this villa. Many rice paddy walks near the villa.
This villa is on the same street where all the village's main evening traditional Balinese performances are held and on the same street as Ubud's main palace. Best to rent a scooter or car for easy access into town, and bicycles can also be rented - or we can arrange a driver of either a car, and/or motorcycle taxi to be on call for you. Note that Ubud is not much of a walking town and there are no walking or bicycle lanes. There are however, numerous paths through the rice paddys near the house but they are mostly for ambience and pleasure as opposed to actually getting into town.
We provide a list of drivers, massage places (even one who will come to the house), guides, restaurants that deliver, and much more. My house manager can help you with all your desires...rice paddy walks, tour guides to take you anywhere, car and scooter rental... She is there 5 hrs per day to prepare breakfast, clean and can be hired to also cook additional meals and do laundry at very reasonable rates.
Please note that there is a new construction project on the rice paddy next to the villa. The garden is walled off and so remains private. 98% of our guests have not been disturbed and have loved their experience at the villa.I am offering a 30% discount off the listed rate until the construction is finished. It's still a beautiful villa with lush garden, and you may not be disturbed in the least - still I am offering a discount just in case.

Tips for staff are optional and very much appreciated. Most of our guests tip the housekeeper $5 per day. Please note that construction was started on another villa nearby in April 2016. Unfortunately, there is now construction just about everywhere in Ubud and it is hard to avoid. It is for this reason that I am giving a discounted rate.
