The Sonnhalde house is located 50 m below the village centre, the car-free summer and winter holiday region of Bettmeralp. The 3 holiday apartments invite you to have a cosy and peaceful holiday. The apartment on the ground floor provides cosiness and security, particularly during the winter when there are meters of snow. The apartment on the west upper floor offers a fantastic view of the four thousand meter mountains of the Wallis Alps like the Matterhorn, Weisshorn and Mischabel. The apartment on the upper floor east is a true paradise for tranquillity and relaxation. The tranquillity is only disturbed every once in a while by squirrels, which play around on the trees just a few meters from the house. All 3 apartments have balconies where you can sunbathe, relax and enjoy the stunning silence of the car-free city. In front of the house there is a forecourt with a large wooden table and rustic benches, here you can grill, eat or just meet for a cosy get together.
Free entrance to the indoor pool: The guests of the Sonnhalde have free entrance to the indoor pool at the Bachtla sport centre during the summer and winter. With the visitor's card Aletsch, there is a 25% discount on the sport trails of the Aletsch Glacier during the summer. Since Bettmeralp is car-free, you must park your car in the Betten Valley. The parking fee during the summer is SFR 4 per day, during the winter SFr 5. A retour drive with the air cabin ride costs Sfr 17.20, for children half price. For the luggage transportation, there is a hand wagon in the summer, during the winter a sled.
The Aletsch Glacier: The Aletsch Glacier - a natural wonder: Directly near the Bettmeralp you will find the large Aletsch glacier, with 23 km it is the longest glacier of the Alps. The two moraine strips and the high mountains in the background are one of the most beautiful motives in the alp area. Hiking on and around the glacier area is one of the most beautiful things you can experience. A walk through the Aletsch forest, a nature reservation with a pine forest, the glacier path from Bettmergrat along the glacier to the Märjelensse and the UNESCO path over the edge of the Bettmerhorn to the Eggishorn, all are hikes that belong to the most beautiful in Switzerland. Nearly daily there are tours and hikes from the mountain climber centre in Bettmeralp to the glacier. Special knowledge about Alps is not required, but you do need to be in good shape.
UNESCO World Heritage Site: Since December 2001, the region around Bettmeralp has been an UNESCO World Heritage Site: Jungfrau, Aletsch, Bietschhorn. This distinction came with a gold medal for special, scenic beauty. There is hardly another region in the Alps that has so many opposites in the smallest area. From the Rhonetal with its cliff steps and vegetation, which reminds people of Spain, up to the highest summits, the Aletschhorn 4200 meters above sea level - just a few kilometres away. In the panorama restaurant on the Bettmerhorn and in the Pro Natura centre on Riederfurka, you can find out everything about the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Alps.
