"We have had a wonderful time here @ Long Pond. This place is so beautiful. Thank you for allowing us to share in some of your families heritage. Can not wait til next yr!"
My husband and I stayed at the cabin with our four kids (aged 18 months to 6 years) and my elderly mother and everyone had a terrific time. There was a shallow beach where my kids could splash in the water all day, a dock for them to fish from, canoes and kayaks, and terrific hiking trails just a few yards away from the house. One trail led to a hidden beach, another led to a gorgeous waterfall, and the woods were full of animals and mushrooms and wild blueberries. We saw lots of deer, LOTS of adorable beavers, and even a fox swimming right past the cabin, plus many different species of turtles and frogs. Everyone had a ball and we hope very much to return next year. The property is probably not for everyone -- the electricity sometimes went out, and there was no internet, plus the nearest grocery store was pretty far away-- maybe 40 minutes away. Squirrels and chipmunks kept getting inside (my kids LOVED this, but you might not), and there was no shortage of mice. Finally, the cabin is on the same lake as a summer camp for teens. On the one hand, the camp staff was very nice to us-- they helped us with directions and shared wild-life viewing tips and even helped us fix a flat tire. On the other hand, some of the campers were really loud, and they sometimes had dance parties with blaring music. For laid-back, nature-loving parents, however, this place is PERFECT. We highly recommend it.
This was our second time staying at Long Pond. We rent both houses and fill them up with cousins, aunts and uncles and of course our dog, Fergie. It is such a great way to reconnect and there are activities for all ages. Hiking, swimming, kayaking and fishing as well as campfires in the evening. If it rains( as it did) , the main house is big enough and well stocked with games, books and videos for everyone to find something to do and a place to do it.
Don't forget to take the hike to the waterfall!
This was a perfect winter escape. We loved the living room with large windows overlooking the pond. It was cozy with the wood stove. Everything was clean and well stocked. It was great to walk out the door and be on the trails. We also went to the end of Long Pond Rd and hiked those trails. The folks at the Education Center were helpful, good neighbors!
The only parts of the house we did not use was the front upstairs bedroom, and the basement, as they were quite cold. We had plenty of comfortable space in the main living area.
We hope to return to experience summer at this lovely place.
Had a great time weather qas perfect. Cottage was well supplied.
We had an amazing long weekend at Long Pond with cousins, aunts and uncles hiking, kayaking, fishing and enjoying the views. We brought our kayaks, but there were three on the property along with a canoe, paddle boat and rowboat. The dining table was HUGE, just right for our gang. Even the rainstorm was accommodating, as it arrived in mid-afternoon just in time for naps or board games, but passed quickly. We gathered around the campfire each night to tell stories and make s'mores, then everyone was able to go off to a comfortable bed as we rented both houses. We were able to bring our dogs who loved the water. We really appreciated this as they are part of the family.
Erin and Dave are excellent hosts who seem genuinely concerned about our comfort and experience. One note- Make sure you have written the directions down, as there is no cell service and all four GPS failed ( saying that you had arrived at your destination about 1/4 mile before you really did. )
This was a great family experience. When I asked the group, "Same time next year?" They all responded, " Can it be here? "
What a relaxing, peaceful place to stay. The pictures do not do this property justice! The owners are lovely people. Our family had a wonderful, much needed vacation. I would definately recommend this property! We are looking forward to renting this property again.
