Log cabin in Brewster, MA on Cape Cod. It is a rustic cabin on Sheep Pond, one of the Cape's beautiful sandy-bottom freshwater great ponds, about a mile long and 80 ft. deep at its deepest point. It's hard to find clearer water, with visibility of 15 ft or more.
Brewster is about halfway out the Cape, with lots to do (beach, tennis, biking, golf, mini-golf), see (Cape League baseball, Cape Museum of Natural History, Cape Playhouse), and eat (fresh seafood, ice cream) within a 5- to 10-minute drive or quick bike ride.
The cabin sleeps 6 in two bedrooms, and is a few steps above camping with a hot water outdoor shower, indoor toilet, full kitchen, etc. There is a deck right on the pond and a screened-in porch with a futon as well. Please note the fireplace is NOT functional. The cabin is old and there is a lot of dry wood and we don't want to take any chances!
The cabin is relatively private, down a 1/2 mile dirt road shared with 3 other homes. The 25-mile Cape Cod Rail Trail is at the other end of the dirt road for convenient biking/walking to other parts of the Cape.
Trash is picked up once midweek and recycling is strongly encouraged. Clean dishes, pillows and mattress pads provided; you provide additional linens (or sleeping bags) and towels. A small (13 inch) tv is hooked up to basic cable. Some like to disconnect it. WiFi is available. There's no land line phone.
No pets and no smoking, please. Check in 3pm; check out 11am.
The cabin has been in our family for almost 40 years. We have come a long way together. We used to be the only life on this end of the pond. There is a framed photo of the cabin about 1915, complete with outhouse and Model T in the driveway hanging in the living area. We are now surrounded by bigger houses and the water level is much higher. Our neighbors are really nice people, but the cabin is determined to live as long (longer!) than these newer houses.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 1975
Once you take a swim in crystal clear Sheep Pond after a bike ride along the Cape Cod Rail Trail, you'll understand. Go to a Cape League game and have some fried clams and you won't want to leave either. There's no place like it!
Perfect spot with lots to do. We had a great time both biking and running on the Rail Trail. Planning on returning next summer. The property is beautiful and the cabin is quite cozy. The location is near some beautiful beaches and great places to eat. Good way to have a nice quiet vacation with lots of relaxing.
Perfect spot for getting away from it all. Rustic character and setting of cabin is a true throwback to old Cape Cod. Great fit for younger family with nearby access to the bike trail and bay area beaches, that is, if you tire of staying put and relaxing on the waterfront deck or swimming in crystal clear Sheep Pond. Cabin layout provides plenty of room for quiet reading or setting up the traditional puzzle table. Second bedroom with twin bunks is made for childhood memories. Our family has vacationed in the Brewster/Harwich area for four generations and this spot is a genuine reminder of simpler times. Owners are very friendly and pleasant to deal with. Property has been devotedly maintained for many years.
We have been camping in Brewster since our children were little. At the age of 18, our son had decided that he will take no part in camping any longer and this cabin fit exactly what we were looking for and more. The pond is beatiful and a great temperature to swim in. The cabin has charm and the description and photos are just as it is. It's great to have a real roof on the occasional day when it rains. The canoe, the raft to relax on, the location which is convenient, yet out of the way, are all nice features. When we stay here, we access the bike trail, go to the ocean, bay, Nickerson State Park, great restaurants, and more. The owners are very nice people to rent from. We have stayed here twice and look forward to another return trip!
The cabin slept six adults quite comfortably. I loved the privacy and the proximity to the pond. The view from the deck is outstanding. Not for those looking for luxury, but was perfect for a relaxing low key week on the Cape!
