Not far south off the Amalfi Coast in Italy lies the fabled island of Capri. Nestled somewhere in this idyllic spot is an exquisite two-floor Italian vacation home dubbed Villa Colonnina. Built at the end of the nineteenth century for affluent visitors from nearby Sorrento, Villa Colonnina has since been modernized while maintaining the indigenous architecture unique to Capri. The villa generously accommodates groups of up to ten visitors and offers mesmerizing views of Mount Vesuvius and the Mediterranean.
While staying at Villa Colonnina a concierge service will arrange for a daily continental breakfast. There will also be daily visits from a housekeeper and a groundskeeper who will look after the beautiful garden with lemon, olive and fig trees. In addition to the swimming pool on the terrace, one will find a hot tub, ping pong and foosball tables, with plenty of outdoor patio furniture for the alfresco kitchen and dining areas.
One of the many features that makes Villa Colonnina stand apart are its large windows which illuminate the whole of the villa with sunlight. The sitting and dining areas have been decorated in a sophisticated old world style with traditional tile designs, bookshelves galore and contemporary furnishings. The interior kitchen comes equipped with all modern appliances and marble countertops. In addition to the poolside terrace, a secondary rooftop terrace is also furnished and boasts amazing views of the villas surroundings.
Each of Villa Colonninas five bedrooms have been designed to ensure comfort and a full night of rest for each guest. Every room has a luxurious queen size bed, a full en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, TV and telephone. The master bedroom features a private balcony, as well as a sitting area and direct access to the poolside terrace which is also a unique feature of two other bedrooms.
Villa Colonnina is a fifteen minute walk from La Piazzetta, the historic square in the center of the town of Capri. The island is renowned for its rugged landscape, gorgeous beaches and artisanal shops selling handmade leather sandals and the islands signature limoncello liqueur. The most well known attraction on the island is the Blue Grotto or Grotta Azzurra, a cavern where the sea is colored a surrealistic shade of electric blue as a result of sunlight passing through an underwater cave.

This beautiful villa is located in a quiet, less touristy part of Capri. It has a lovely unobstructed view of the sea and is very well maintained. It is a 15 minute walk to the Piazzetta (town center) which is convenient. There are no cars in this part of Capri so you can only reach the villa by foot (a porter brings the luggage). Capri is very safe. We were able to send the kids out on their own at night for gelato. We loved our stay at Villa Colonnina and hope to return.
Very nice villa, unfortunately there was so much to do and see on Capri that we didn't spend a lot of time enjoying. The staff and locally-based concierge did a fantastic job in helping to make our experience the best it could be.
