Roy or Marlene Epkenhaus purchased this Villa in 2013
Why Roy or Marlene Epkenhaus chose Dominical
We chose to purchase a home in Costa Rica as we have holidayed in Dominical Beach on several occasions at all times of the year. We found the climate to be excellent and the weather to have been outstanding all the time. The warm waters of the Pacific Ocean continue to draw us back year after year as do the spectacular sunsets. Everyone we meet whether shopping or in the restaurants or simply strolling around were found to be very friendly. Most everyone speaks English which helps as we are not so good at Spanish!
What makes this Villa unique
Having a Beach Side home has always been a dream of ours. The close proximity to the Beach, Restaurants, and local stores was a real selling feature. We love our house and it is the right size for a larger family to vacation in. The design of the villa is a Costa Rica style that shows to perfection. As an environmental addition, Solar Panels on the roof provide hydro electricity back onto the electricity grid, while roof top solar hot water is provided.
Smoking outside only.
Max guests:6 (sleeps up to 6 adults)

Thank you, Marlon, Raul, and Tatiana!
I would have given this vacation rental 1 or 2 stars, but Marlon, Raul, and Tatiana were so wonderful and helpful that they made our experience with the house better than it could have been.
Problems that made this house UNCOMFORTABLE were 1.) The couch and chairs are very, very grungy and old and have no cushion left. Sitting in them is like sitting on hard wood. 2.) There is no outdoor trash can for putting full trash bags in, so we had to set full bags outside and hope no wild creatures would come and break them open. 3.) there was water dripping from the ceiling onto our heads as we stood in front of the kitchen sink. To wash hands or dishes, we had to stand to the side to avoid getting wet. 4.) Possibly due to many previous ceiling leaks (that can be seen as water stains on the ceiling), there is a lot of mold/mildew on the first floor of the house; so much mold that we had to keep the windows (no screens) open in order to flush out the heavy mold smell. HOWEVER, the second floor of the house was very lovely! Tatiana provides fresh-smelling linens, and the whole house was very clean except for the couch/chairs and the downstairs mold and mildew smell. This rental will be AMAZING when the owners get new furniture and remedy the mold and mildew which lives under the bottom floor tile or under the kitchen cupboards (?). Thank you again Marlon and Raul for your help with the washing machine and making us feel more comfortable in general.
Newer roomy home
The house is one of four built within recent years, two story, spacious, plenty of room inside with a nice pool out back. The kitchen is well equipped, full size refrigerator, gas stove and oven, microwave, coffee machine and plenty of utensils. The surf beach is just a short 5 minute walk straight down a dirt road. Air conditioning barely cools the upstairs master bedroom. Couch and two club chairs in the living room are the most uncomfortable of any home I’ve been a guest in. The internet was almost unusable, the owner uses an old 3G router linked to the cell system. I should have known better since I specifically asked about the internet and that was the only question the owner did NOT answer before I booked the home. After we arrived I emailed the owner about the poor internet access to which he stated he had never had this problem before even though the previous guest stated the internet was a serious problem. In reply I quoted the previous guest’s comment about the awful internet availability and got no response. I also contacted the rental manager and he stated that the internet provided was the cheapest plan available. In addition to the internet problems there was construction going on behind the home and repair work to the house next door the entire 6 days we were there, so constant noise the entire week. The construction behind the home is just getting started so I would anticipate the noise will continue for the next few months. The town itself is small but has various restaurants and a couple of surf shops. There is also a little market a 5 minute walk away just on the main highway. All in all, I would not recommend this home to anyone until the construction is completed behind the house and the internet issue is resolved.
Awesome location and amenities!
I was impressed with the cleanliness and appearance of the property. The A/C worked perfectly and the pool was an amazing addition. Walking to the beach takes less than 5 minutes. Not much car traffic in the particular area, so not super noisy in the morning. I would've given it 4 stars but the wifi did not work as well as advertised. The signal is barely strong enough to send a text message from a mobile phone. We even attempted to only use the wifi one at a time, but loading took several moments at the least, sometimes minutes. Marlon was an incredible host and provided me with all the information I needed and also checked in on us multiple times to make sure we were satisfied with everything. Overall a great trip and a perfect place to stay!
Quiet area and relaxing stay
The villa is on a quiet street away from downtown Dominical but within an easy walking distance there. There is a well stocked grocery store (about a 7 minute walk) on main highway at the end of the road. There are 2-3 other smaller grocery stores in the main town. Almost everyday there is a man that sells fruit and vegetables out of the back of his truck he parks by the bus stop. There is also another fruit and vegetable shop in the downtown area too. The villa had lots of room for our family of 5. The dishwasher was broken and we had to wash all our dishes by hand. We cooked some meals in the villa. The kitchen is fairly well equipped but could use a couple more bigger pots especially when cooking for 5 people. A BBQ would've been nice too but we survived without one. The blender and coffee maker worked well. An ice maker on the fridge was very useful. One of the A/C units broke and Marlon had the repair guy there the next morning to fix it. Marlon emailed us frequently to check in with us. The pool was a nice place to cool off. We played card games on the deck while sitting outside. The laundry equipment worked great. The villa was clean when we arrived. It has a security system which Marlon explained to us. We drove to a few nearby places to hike which are beautiful with lots of birds, monkeys and other animals. The beach is a 5 minute walk. Our kids rented surf boards and enjoyed the waves. There are amazing sunsets each evening. Don't miss them. All in all, we enjoyed our time here and would stay again.
Fantastic stay, felt like home
Property was perfect. Very spacious, with plenty of room for two couples. All the utensils necessary for cooking and updated appliances. Easily walkable to the beach and close to town. Marlon is an excellent caretaker who was extremely responsive to our needs. I will definitely stay at this property again when I come back to Dominical.
Enjoy the expansive sandy beach with breathtaking ocean views, and experience the sunset every night just steps away. A surfer’s heaven with large waves to ride.
Dominical Beach is an exciting village full of life all hours of the day and night. There are clothing, souvenirs and artisan shops, close to 20 restaurants with excellent food and variety of ethnical food types, bars, and lounges and the most spectacular sunsets.
Besides surfing and swimming and taking extended walks along the beautiful beach, you can go horseback riding, ATV riding in the mountains, go on a canopy tour or visit a nearby wildlife reserve or a butterfly farm all nearby to Dominical Beach. The town has several tour offices offering many different types of adventures. The area has some of the best deep sea fishing in the world, with record breaking catches of marlin, tuna and sailfish.
There are real estate services, Spanish Learning Centre, small supermarkets, restaurants, cafes and a church. The town is located near one of Costa Rica's most famous national parks, Manuel Antonio and is minutes from the prestigious reef at Whale’s Tail in Uvita with Swimming, Boating, Snorkeling and Scuba Diving. There is certainly no shortage of things to do in and around Dominical Beach.
We can also help arrange any of the local tours and fishing excursions available in and around the Dominical Beach area.
