About Castle Turin

We both have a keen interest in History and a love for old buildings. Brendan and I have long been collectors of antiques and militaria. We have both travelled extensivley and have enjoyed collecting the many interesting bits and pieces you will find at Turin Castle.

Castle Turin purchased this castle in 2007

Why Castle Turin chose Ireland

We have always had a great fondness for the West of Ireland. We saw the castle and were instantly captivated by the beauty of the area. We purchased the property in 2007 from a local man who had restored the property. The interior needed refurbishment so we set about employing the services of local trandesmen to upgrade the plumbing and electrics. There are 5 bedrooms at the castle and all the bedrooms are ensuite and heated by electric storage heaters, while both the great hall and top floor sitting rooms have wood burning stoves. We have collected many artifacts from around the world to make Castle Turin authentic but also comfortable. Mayo is truly a beautiful part of Ireland.

What makes this castle unique

Beautiful countryside, warm and friendly people. Ideal for fishing, site seeing and a great base for touring the West of Ireland.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Four couples from upstate New York and one from Leicestershire in England spent a week in Turin Castle, September 15th-22nd 2012. I intended to write a full glowing review, but the previous reviewers said it all. It would be hard to equal theirs. It was a once in a lifetime experience for us. The couple from England are of Irish heritage and are singers and musicians in the folk clubs there. Suffice it to say that we had some terrific traditional Irish songs in the Great Hall. We had a ceildh with Irish dancing and had a ball in the hall. It was just a wonderful week for all of us.

Queen of Turin

  • 5 of 5

Turin Castle was my dream come true! The one thing that was a must for me to do in Ireland was live in a castle. Turin Castle was absolutely beautiful. The owners have gone above and beyond to make it comfortable and functional while staying true to the authenticity of the time period of the castle. The green fields surrounding the castle made it very private. We watched shooting stars from the top on our last night. Perfect! My niece had a banner made for me that said Queen of Turin. That is what I felt like my entire stay.

Amazing place to have as home base while in Ireland

  • 5 of 5

I was shocked when looking for a place for a large family gathering in Ireland to find that there are restored castles for rent!! After looking at several we chose Turin. It has a great location, we easily drove to many fantastic sites in the area. (Arran Islands, the Burren, Bunratty) The little town of Cong and Ashford Castle are very close and offer a lot to do. We went to both many times. The castle itself is updated for comfort (without losing any authenticity) and each bedroom has it's own en suite bathroom which was fantastic. We slept 11 people of all ages very comfortably for two weeks. The kitchen is well equipped enough to easily cook for that many and the dining room easily accomodates a group that big. (there is a small grocery store a few minutes away in Kilmaine and a large one up the road in Ballinrobe). It also has a tiny wedding chapel, a garden and fields surrounding it that make it very peaceful, quiet and private. The surrounding country roads are quiet too and great for a walk. Lastly, the castle is white washed inside so it is quite bright even though the windows are fairly small. The only thing I would say is that toddlers and anyone with mobility issues would likely find the stairs too challenging. (Our group ranged from 5-72 and we had no problems) We loved it. It is like living inside a museum with no curators! I highly recommend it.

DreamWedding

Absolutely Beautiful! Turin Castle was everything we expected and more. The photos are acurate, but the castle is so much more amazing in person. Beautifully restored and maintained. Its obvious that love and care went into furnishing this place. You could spend days looking at everything. The view from the top of the castle is mesmorizing. The owners were amazing individuals. Very helpful and kind. They helped to make our wedding day a dream come true. They took care of all the arrangements for the ceremony area, all we did was show up with flowers in hand. They know the history of the castle and all the details of the area around it. They were able to recommend places to go in the surrounding areas as well. Kilmaine and Ballinrobe are a short drive away with great little restaurants. Having a car is best to get around this area, but the owners provide information for local drivers as well. I recommend this place to anyone who wants a quiet or romantic stay in the beautiful scenic West of Ireland. Beautiful people with beautiful places to see. We will return to Turin Castle one day, thats for sure.

WONDERFUL!

  • 5 of 5

The best part of our trip around Ireland. Loved the location and the peaceful surrounding. M&B were kind enough to meet us as we arrived and gave a wonderful tour of the castle and its history. Can't put into words how special Turin Castle is to us and our family who stayed with us.

Thank you again. xoxo

First Trip to Ireland

  • 5 of 5

We loved it!!! This was my first trip to Ireland and I visited with two of my sisters, a friend and my great nephew and I wanted to stay in an authentic Irish castle and I got my wish! It was magical, romantic, well maintained, very authentic and medieval looking. The bedrooms made you feel like a queen! Ballinrobe was a nearby town that we visited often for dinner and shopping. The horses out back were beautiful and we had such fun feeding them in the morning and visiting with them during the day. Harry made sure that we had everything we needed and would check on us periodically since we were all women. I have promised my two sons to return in a few years and have them experience this wonderful castle! Thank you Marnie and Brendan!
