Slip covers should have been used. There was a problem with warm shower for the entire week. Not pleasant.. One bedrom has non operating air conditioning. Owner should remedy. I would not return nor recommend.. Owner could not remedy hot water or air cond.
My husband, dog and myself had a wonderful week in this charming cottage a few feet from Lake Buel. The cottage was very clean, comfortable, with a lovely deck surrounded by tall pine trees and overlooking a large yard (which Sam, our dog,
particularly loved because we played retrieve the ball a few times a day....he slept like a log!). We barely used the a/c because the breezes were so pleasant though when we did, it worked great. The owner left clear instructions and was very available for any questions. The area is private, quiet and well into the woods though, only minutes from Great Barrington and lots of great restaurants and fun shopping. Catherine's Chocolates on Stockbridge Rd. is a must stop! And the Mexican Restaurant "Xicohtencatl" also on Stockbridge Rd, is exceptional. We recommend this getaway to anyone wanting peace, serenity, fresh air, and a beautiful lake. J.L.
We had a splendid time here and will be returning and recommending it to our friends.
The house is a comfortable two-bedroom that was perfect for a cozy long weekend. The owner goes the extra mile to make sure you have everything you need - from a canoe down at his lake dock to a pile of high-quality towels to a convenient kitchen. But bring your own condiments - like salt and oil and spices, etc. The owner is also very accessible if you have any questions.
The forested neighborhood is very special and it was fun to wander through the back roads looking at the other houses, each of which seems unique.
It was brutally hot and humid while we were there, but the two air conditioners cooled down the whole house. There was a strong fan as well. Naturally we didn't use the fireplace but it is very attractive. The deck is a treat - with relaxing chairs and a large glass-top table. It is nicely landscaped all around.
I enjoyed the fact that this spotless house has many touches of beauty - painted furniture, handsome prints, cool kitchen ceramics. It felt less like a rental than like home. You can stay here with confidence.
My only suggestion: the owner should type out his very useful notes (even recommending a couple of restaurants) so we don't have to wrestle with his handwriting!
