In the Panacea area if you ask "How far is Disney?" the response is: "Not far enough." This place is real old Florida with all the luxuries of home. The home is on the beach, but not on the beach--it's actually on the non-beach side of a very lightly travelled road (really more of a path). It's tucked into some trees, overlooking a marshy lake area to the rear--very private, very quiet, but a beach view from the screened porch and a very short stroll to the Gulf of Mexico--perfect. The "beach" houses across the street don't have this much privacy. When we were there the house appeared to be freshly painted and the kitchen like new. The house is perfect for a couple or a small family. All kitchen tools, good internet and Direct TV. Comfy beds and furniture. Decent restaurants close. Absolutely perfect. We will be back.
We rented this house in a very very HOT July week. There was a heat wave going across the states and the heat index was 106 and air temp 98. No charter fishing boats were running due to the heat. Of course that was our doing. The house had plenty of room for my husband and I in the master and our daughter, son in law and the 2 small children to relax in the rest of the house at night. House is well stocked , the rug in the living room was very soiled (tan) and we took it up and laid it over the balcony and ran the vacumm
several times .I feel like the beach in front of the house may be somewhat misrepresented. The beach is not good to swim in-it drops off sharply and is totally natural (messy with seaweed and occasional trash) The Mashes Sand Beach nearby ( 10 minute drive) is a state park are and is well kept. My grandkids liked the woodiness/tropical feel of the house. I am disabled and you cannot use a mobility cart even in the Bald Point State Park Handicapped areas. Believe me I tried! Wifi was on about 1/2 of the time. My daughter got glass on her foot in my bathroom and we found about 5 more pieces. There is no dishwasher after I was told there was by the office. But all in all, Ok. Would not rent again as there is nothing to do around there. Resturants are mom and pop and 60 bucks for pizza at Big Daddies was high.We had great fresh shucked oysters at Youst (?) over toward the Wakulla State Park but we drove there and it was closed due to weather. Marine Lab near the house was fun and very outdated. We felt like we were set back time, not a bad thing though. They were all very nice and had alot of neat things to see. All in all , just fair vacation. Got see our family , always a good thing.
We rented this home along with my sister's family and really enjoyed it. Even though the water at Bald Point is not the greatest, and it's very shallow, that made it fun exploring the tide pools at low tide and easy to enjoy with younger children. The house was set up well for a smaller group like ours and had plenty of space to enjoy by yourself or with others. One of the features we enjoyed the most was the outside shower stall with hot and cold water - it was a work saver for us trying to keep the house clean! The kitchen had a great variety of cooking utensils and the dining table was a nice size for a group. The check-in/out with the property manager was easy and we received our deposit back in a timely manner. The only negatives I noticed about the rental were that the directions to the house were EXTREMELY difficult to read because of the font size and color and we were unsure how much cleaning we were supposed to do before vacating the house. The owner was very nice and responded to all my questions quickly. If we were looking for a quiet vacation, we would return again.
We just returned from our first trip to Alligator Point. House was great, excellent location and beds were so comfortable we wanted to bring them home. Fully stocked with everything we needed. My husband, who hates to vacation, is ready to book for next summer.
