House, 5 Bedrooms, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)
The last house on Apalachicola Bay at the West end of the island. This is just before the Cut which is the navigational channel seperating Little St. George Island State Park. This home has a deep water dock (10') with power, a private pool shared among the 10 residential homes of Bayside, a place for parking your boat trailer while you visit. A private boat ramp is available just a few hundred yards away that allows a boat launch directly into the navigational channel. Surrounded by parkland and water, this home is a great experience. And fishing is GREAT here too. The strong tide runs in deep water along the dock going to and from the navigational channel are very productive for many saltwater game fish. Very private and peaceful. Located in the Plantation. A private gated community with new clubhouse and pool.

About George Floyd
Apalachicola native went into the military at age 18, then a career in the corporate world, now retired to the good life on the island. I live on St. George Island and run the Maritime Museum in Apalachicola.
George Floyd purchased this House in 2007
Why George Floyd chose Plantation
I purchased this home because of the deep water dock, the privacy, the great fishing at the dock and the jetties. Also, the proximity to Little St. George Island and access to the Gulf via the Cut is great for offshore fishing.
What makes this House unique
This home is literally at the end of the road. Situated at the end of the island with a broad expansive view of the water. It is all about peace, quite, privacy and the tranquility of the Bay at this home. Enough parking for four cars underneath the house with the entrance under the house that allows getting to and from your car while avoiding inclement weather. The great fishing from the dock allows you to bring in fresh fish to the dinner table each evenig.

The house was awesome, the owner was very nice and acomidating ! Spectacular view !
Nice home, but furnishings are on a Motel Six level, and we expected something like a Sheraton.
1)Main floor bathtub had 20+ dead bugs in it, and the rear shower door was off it tracks and inoperable.
2)All patios were covered with pine straw, and interior floors were so dirty we could not go barefoot without turning the bottom of our feet black.
3)Six overhead light bulbs in the main area did not work, and several in the upper bedrooms did not work.
4)Advertised with "outdoor grille", but it was totally rusted out and unusable and the type you would find in a state park for hot dogs. We had advised owner we planned to cook out 3 meals and were expecting at least a 4-burner gas grille, but the never responded.
5)House needed to be thoroughly cleaned-floors, shabby dusty upholstery; three mattresses must have come from a yard sale because they were so lumpy, worn, and uncomfortable.
6)There were only 6 water glasses, so the 5 of us had to constantly wash glasses each time we wanted to drink. We finally bought some Solo cups for our own use.
7)Butcher knives would not cut butter and there was no sharpener available.
8)There is a serious problem with water under the glass and on top of the wood on the breakfast table, so we were unable to use it. This did not impact our stay but was very unpalatable and indicative that there had been no cleaning or maintenance in the house for weeks before we arrived.
9) Patio chairs were very uncomfortable and definitely need cushions for regular use. Chairs and tables were covered with pine straw.
10) Home was advertised with a large fishing pier, and we were advised before arriving that the recent storm had wiped it out, and when we requested a 10% discount to compensate for not being able to fish from the pier, the owner advised he could not grant our request.
In summary we were expecting a much more upscale interior and would have gladly paid more for an environment to which we all five are accustomed to in our own homes. It was not pleasant to downgrade our living standards while on a "luxury" vacation. The owner had promised to stop in on Monday, and we had already prepared a list of these comments to review with him, but he never showed up, so we dealt with the situation as best we could.
We regret that the recent hurricane adversely affected this visitor experience. Response to each item follows 1) The bottom two feet of the stairwell was flooded as was all of the island in this area. Bugs seeking refuge massed wherever dry space was available and resulted in many dead after in the subsequent days. 2) Pine straw massed due to hurricane winds. Dirty floors just not true. Perhaps this came from walking out of doors barefoot in the carport area below the house. 3) Lights were working prior to rental. Severe storms may have caused lightning surges leading to blown bulbs. 4) Insurance policy forbids gas grills at rental houses due to fire hazards. 5) Furniture is Tommy Bahama brand and in good shape along with mattresses. Guess they were expecting $3K each memory foam luxury which is far beyond rental standards. 6) There are more than 6 glasses, 7) Sharp knives ... really ... they are not chef knives but cut acceptably. 8) water is apparently due to the sliding glass door being left open. No water issues before or after this stay. 9) Pine straw on chairs ... and uncomfortable ... this defines the nature of these complaints .. absurdly overzealous. 10) Guests wanted discount due to storm damage. I suggested they reschedule until after repairs were completed which took about two months, but they wanted to come anyway.
Perfect Location In Paradise
We have stayed at this home in May for the past two years. It is a great location on the bay right at the cut, with easy access to the beach. This year the house was immaculate with fluffed linens and quality cookware. The "Last House on the Bay" is a well-maintained home. The sounds of the water will lull you to sleep. Husband and his buddies love the fishing, while wives embrace the beauty and privacy. Very comfortable!
House needs some TLC!
This is the first time I have felt the need to give a less than favorable review of a house on VRBO. I only wish someone before us had been as honest in an evaluation.
First of all while the house was clean, it did not live up to the online listing description.
Items that were not as lisited were: It did not have a "smart" TV with video library, but instead a older "tube" TV and no videos. In fact we did not have access to Cable the entire 10 days and were without WIFI for two days. The owner finally brought a DVD player that let us access Netflex Streaming only. Lamps in the living room were broken, smoke detecter unhooked, light bulbs out on stairway, unable to close window on main level so rain and wind came in, and only one chair for the table on porch. We paid rental for the bikes, but unless you were over 6' tall it would have been impossible to ride. Owner promised to refund bike rental but never did even after several requests.
Owner always promised to take care of things, but was either out of town or too busy to promptly take action. This house needs someone to check things out before renters arrive, and take care of needed items. It was very frustrating to spend our vacaion time working through these problems.
A very confused and difficult visitor. Internet TV was available but the cable service was out and the cable service provider had difficulty getting repairs done. Since then, we switched providers from an island based company to the phone company service which should be more responsive. Smoke detector battery went out and was promptly replaced. Heavy storm caused some wind blown rain to come in, but very unusual. Bikes were NEW adult bikes with baskets. Standard frames. Guess this complaint was because his teenage daughter could not ride. We did send a refund check in the mail. This person was always agitated and very difficult to please.
Great Family Vacation
We brought parents, kids, and our baby grandson. The house is very roomy and comfortable, and we enjoyed the porches morning and evening. Kept a boat at the dock to go fishing, but we caught as many fish from the dock as we did from the boat. Bring a cast net and you can catch all the bait you need. Brought our kayaks and left them over at the beach all week. Short walk to the beach, and we had the screened pool (shared with a few other houses) to ourselves all week. Saw schools of dolphin every day! Nice bike trail up and down the whole island. This house is almost at the west end of the island and feels very secluded. Papa Joe's Oyster Bar and Grill over in Apalachicola had the best steamed shrimp. The owner and his crew were very responsive and helpful. I was hearing comments about "next time" from the family by the second day.
Hunkapiller's loved this house - two week stay!
Our family had a wonderful time at this property; so much so that we extended our stay from one to two weeks. George the owner made it all incredibly easy and was super accommodating. The house has tall ceilings and amazing views of the bay. The deep water dock was so much fun to fish from. I highly recommend staying here and our family plans to do so again. Enjoy your time here!
