Affordable Quiet Sunny Lakefront, Watercraft Included

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (with shower), (Sleeps 7)

This two story gambrel located perfectly facing south provides gorgeous and memorable sunrises and sunsets. This southern setting assures sun exposure early morning backdrop as the loons slowly cruise their early morning lap around the lake, and bountiful sun until dusk. Located mid way down the north shore of the open area of the main lake, you have an unobstructed view to the far shore and adjacent islands. Use the availible canoe, rowboat, or paddle boat to explore the many islands, or take the lake outlet a short way down the shore to access Little St. George and the river. Enjoy the dining area with table that seats seven (beautiful replacement table for 2017), living room with glass front wood stove (new furniture for 2017)) and two glass sliders for viewing the lake from both rooms. Small reading area at top of stairs overlooks lake, and has another twin bed. The downstairs master bedroom has a double bed, and two upstairs bedrooms have two beds in each. Small second story front balcony provides a unique lake view (awesome place to have a morning coffee), and the large front deck with picnic table, deck chairs and gas grill, is the perfect finishing touch to your get away. There is a flat screen tv and dvd player (and dv library}. TV reception is via a roof antenna, so no cable or internet.

Natural front yard leads down to the dock and stone stairway into the lake. Camp fires are allowed (and so great at night) in the chiminea located just feet away from the lake. There is an undeveloped lot next door (which is ours anyway) for kids to play and provides privacy on that side. A picturesque small brook flows through the lot, and provides endless hours of exploring for kids. With no camps behind the property, acres of exploring await them. The secluded camp roads and trails around the camp are great for a walk. Haystack mountain (10 minute drive) is a perfect family hike to the blueberry fields. The State Park is located at the other end of the lake, a 10 minute drive to the boat launch with vehicle/trailer parking (no charge for either). Monitor heater in living room will heat the whole house when cooler. Camp uses the lake for general water. Even though the lake is amazingly clear and clean, drinking water is provided by a 5 gallon hot/cold water station. Extra bottles are provided.

Lake St. George is a well known fishing lake providing ample area for sailing and boating. One of the cleanest and clearest lakes in Maine (has a very active lake association), it is home to many loon families that cruise just off shore numerous times during the day. Do not be surprised to see deer and other wildlife around during your stay. Driving to Belfast, Camden, and other ocean front fishing towns provides a glimpse into Maine shore life and offers sailing and site seeing tours. Go to Lincolnville to the lobster shack and watch the island ferry while eating onshore. The Maine State Capitol of Augusta is nearby with shopping and historical sites. Freeport (home of LL Bean and the outlet shopping mecca) is an hour away. 1.5 miles away in Liberty, is Liberty Lobster (owned by a local lobsterman, sells out of his garage at great discount prices), and 3 miles away is John's Ice Cream and next door, a Maine home cooking diner. Head toward Washington on 220 (right out of the camp road) is a new local brew pub (2 miles) and farm market/restaurant (5 miles) that has awesome breakfast, lunches, preserves, and produce.

Spring and early season you almost have the lake to yourself. Fall provides great folliage viewing from this central location, and the lake is incredibly quiet.

Two hour cleaning service is provided by an outside vendor. You need to have dishes done, general broom cleanup done at checkout. Towels, linens, etc... are NOT provided (can not have a washer with septic system), so please bring them along ( full bed downstairs, 5 twins upstairs). Blankets, pillows, paper towels, toilet paper, etc... are provided.

About Mark Gendron

Barbara lives in South Portland and formerly summered on Lake St. George in her camp next door (she now makes short visits).. She and husband Gene (deceased) purchased the adjacent camp in the mid 1960's and the gambrel later. Barbara stays active (at 93) with her daily walks. She is a great, and great, great grandmother, and become a grammy to many of the children that stay at the gambrel. She has stayed friendly with some after their stay, and she sees these same families each year.

Listing is managed by her son Mark. Your responses will be answered by him.

Why Mark Gendron chose MidCoast - Penobscot Bay

It is the the third lot adjacent to the undeveloped lot between the two properties. We enjoyed many summers on this lake, and it has so many wonderful and happy memories attached to it.

What makes this cottage unique

This property allows you to get close to nature without camping. Children get to experience the outdoors, and provides families a week of uninterupted together time.

The sunsets you can watch from the house are worth the price of alone.

  • 5 of 5

Nice secluded area. It is so quiet at night, the only thing you hear are the loons.

The sunsets are breathtaking. Access to the lake is right there.

Canoed multiple times on the beautiful lake!

Definitely will recommend this place.

Best Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Private, crystal clear water, nice shallow spot for kids. Was spacious inside and plenty of room for everyone. Nice fishing spot down the dirt road if you want something different from what is in front of you. Kids and adults had a blast. Much needed relaxation.

Beautiful Cabin on the Lake!

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was spacious and cozy with a nice deck on back overlooking lake. Plenty of rooms and beds upstairs and other than some light bulbs that need replacement was very well kept. Great place to take the kids and the row boat was good for fishing if you don't mind the rowing part. Paddle boat was fun too but the rudder pin came loose making it a little challenging to get back to the dock. Kitchen had all the necessary utensils and the grill on the deck was great. I would definitely recommend this cabin for families looking to enjoy the outdoors and peaceful evenings listening to loons, Just remember to bring your tick spray. Great stay, Thank You Owners.

Lake St George camp is Maine at its summer best

  • 5 of 5

Our family, including an 18 mo old and 7 yr old (3 generations) enjoyed 5 days early this summer when the weather was not particularly warm and the lake still chilly. Nevertheless, we had a fantastic time! The camp is very comfortable with a well stocked kitchen, and the beds/linens were extremely comfortable. A good night's sleep is vital to us 66 yr olds, and the bedding assured us of that. If you are looking for a rustic, camp setting with amenities, this is the right spot.
