Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in South Sanford

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3-6)

This romantic cozy cottage is located at the intersection of Bauneg Beg Lake and the Great Works River, easily accessible from I-95. Centrally located for easy day-trips to the ocean, the mountains, sightseeing, and shopping.

But the main attraction is the location itself. Front and back decks provide waterfront relaxation with water on three sides of the property. Canoe or kayak out onto the main lake or up the river for more privacy and wildlife including nesting great herons. Our favorite activity is to relax on the deck with an evening cocktail and watch the sun go down across the river!

Once a purely rustic cabin, this cottage now has knotty pine board walls and ceiling with cottage size stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, and shower. While enjoying the cottage-on-the-lake experience you can also stay connected with the outside world if you desire via wireless internet.

The bedroom has a double bed. There is also a twin-sized day bed and a convertible sofa-bed in the main room.

The Maine fishery department states that bass and pickerel provide ample angling opportunities and the lake supports a large population of white perch.

Why The Owner chose Sanford

My mother bought this cabin decades ago to 'get away from it all' in her retirement. It's become the go-to relaxation spot for family and friends that we are now sharing with others.

What makes this cottage unique

The cabin provides the best of both worlds. It's on a peninsula at the point where the Great Works river enters Bauneg Beg Lake. The expanse of the lake is available by canoe and kayak without the traffic that comes with being on the shore of the main lake. While the shopping and sightseeing of southern Maine are available within easy driving distance of the cabin, so are the peace and solitude of great heron nesting sites within easy canoe range.

2nd time a charm!

All ready looking forward to my next stay here at the cabin! Perfect get away location, to relax, unwind and recharge the batteries. Close enough to get to beautiful Perkins Cove, Kennebunkport, Portland and Freeport. Convenient shopping also close by. Thanks Robert!

Beautiful Spot and a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

Cabin is just as described and was a perfect getaway for us. I would have been very happy rotating between front deck, back deck and dock with a book and beverage, but my husband is a "let's go see" kind of guy. We compromised and did lots of both, and this is the perfect place for it. Not in the middle of the oceanfront craziness but close enough to it that you can visit if you'd like. We ate several meals in Wells, a couple in S. Berwick, one in Ognuquit and spent a lovely afternoon in Portsmouth, NH. Cabin is rustic and charming but has everything we needed and is very comfortable. Already looking forward to another trip.

Just what we needed plus so much more!

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is perfect! We kayaker ever day. Trips to Ogunquit, Kennebunkport & Portland were effortless & scenic. We could have perfectly happy staying @ the cabin but enjoyed our day trips. My wife and I are looking forward to staying here again next year!

Wonderful Vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

This lovely lakeside cabin in the woods gives new meaning to the word serenity. If you want quiet, you've got it. Beautiful surroundings, not a problem. And really there were enough amenities to make you feel quite pampered despite the rustic environment. Our bed as well as the livingroom furniture were very comfortable indeed. Martinis at twilight on the terrace overlooking the lovely lake anyone? For us this was as good as it gets! The only negative I could come up with is the mosquito factor but that goes with the territory. Keep covered up if they love you too much, would be my advice. We made day trips to cities on the Southern coast of Maine and I can tell you there's almost nothing that's over 35-40 minutes away. Even Portsmouth, N.H. is not that far. So add "very convenient" to this review! My husband and stepson became fishing fanatics and utilized both of the kayaks and the canoe more than once during this stay. I absolutely would return, and thanks Robert for your excellent communication!

Wonderful Cabin to have the perfect hollidays during fall in Maine

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks in this cabin and enjoyed every minute! The pictures listed give a good impression of the cabin and the surrounding area. The cabin itself is equipped with everything you need, even wireless internet and cable TV. This wooden cabin, furnished and decorated with love, and the beautiful lake are perfect for relaxing (autumn) holidays!

It takes 10 minutes to go to the near by town Sanford and less than 1 hour to go to the sea side. Boston is just 90 minutes away. Last not least: communication and organisation with/by the owner was perfect.

Charming Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This charming little "cabin in the woods" was a perfect place to relax after exploring southern Maine on beautiful Fall days. We loved sitting on the back deck by the water. Inside was rustic with many nostalgic touches. I especially liked the recipes attached to the inside of the kitchen cabinets! I hope to stay there again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments. The nostalgic touches are all things we retained from when my mother used the cottage on a regular basis. Many she created as she was good with art and very good at knitting, crocheting, and the like. Many, like the recipes, are family standards, handed down to her by my grandmother.
