Very well kept apartment. Access to everything you may need to have a good vacation was at hand from lawn chairs to pots and sheets. Only sugestión is to get a grill. Meeting with the estate manager was easy. Answered everytime I called. This place is very good for a couple or small family. The area was convinietly located close to all the beaches and hotels and stores with duty free good sold at the same price as in the United States. A good place to vacation.
A great escape to St. Kitts
My wife and I had a most enjoyable vacation at Oleander in St. Kitts. The unit was perfect for what we needed. The unit itself is in great shape and repair while the total complex needs some work.
Great for a couple
Well equipped and cared for lodging. A very good library with books to read on the balcony or while lounging in a beach chair.
Enjoyed our visit
The complex has some age but the location is very good. The unit itself is small but fine for two. It has a large balcony with plenty of table space and chairs and its where we spent most of our time. There is a partial ocean view but also a view of the nearby hills. The kitchen is well stocked with plates, cups, pans and silverware. Could use a few more glasses but sufficient for two. Good selection of spices available. Small but adequate fridge. Comfortable couches. The tv in the living area had some sound issues. I should have reported it but since we don’t watch much tv I didn’t worry too much about it. Washer and dryer worked well. Chairs and soft sided coolers available to use at beach. Plenty of soft towels. King size bed with adequate mattress. There is not a lot of storage room. There is a large chest of drawers but it had musty smell. No assigned parking but we had no trouble finding space.
Avenice the manager is great to work with. Had a bottle of coconut rum as a welcoming gift.
The property was very nice and the location couldn't have been better. We did rent a car, so we were able to tour the island and go to other beaches. We would go to a beach on the Caribbean side in the morning and over to the Atlantic in the afternoon. As it is only steps away from the rental, we were able to take chairs and coolers from the rental and in about 2 minutes we were set up on the beach which we had to ourselves the majority of the time. There are plenty of choices for dining on both sides, so we were never at a loss for somewhere to go. Thanks to Laverne and Avenice for all of their help and guidance, it made our stay that much nicer.
As another reviewer stated, it was a bit scary to wire transfer a large sum of money to an overseas bank, but everything worked out more perfectly than I could have imagined. Both the owner of the condo, Dianne, and the property manager, Avenice, were great to work with. Avenice's assistant, Clarissa, meet us at the airport. Clarissa held a sign with out last name, so she was easy to find. She put us in a cab and then immediately met us at the condo to let us in. Avenice met with us first thing Monday morning (we arrived on Saturday afternoon) to give us a thorough orientation, answer questions about the condo and the island, and to recommend tours and drivers. She answered all of our questions and got us the extra set of keys we requested. Upon checkout after verifying that everything was still in working order, she returned our security deposit in cash. The whole process was very simple.
The condo itself felt a bit cramped because there is A LOT of furniture in the living area. We moved some of it around for our week's stay to make things more comfortable and then the place was perfect for us. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning in the bedrooms was a godsend. The living area also had air conditioning, but we didn't use it. We spent most of our time on the huge balcony which had an amazing breeze constantly blowing off of the Atlantic. We also used the pool daily. Since it is the off season, we had the pool to ourselves most days.
The Atlantic Beach is very close to the condo; it is down a short path right on the grounds of the condo complex. Be aware though that the beach may be unusable. While we were there, the beach was covered in seaweed. There were (and I am not exaggerating here), six feet deep piles of it extending across the entire beach, while more continued to wash in from the ocean. This is obviously nobody's fault, and an unusual occurrence. Apparently, it's a problem that is plaguing much of the Caribbean right now. Please don't come to this condo (at least anytime soon), and expect to take a long walk down the Atlantic coastline because it is truly unpassable. Yet, the view was lovely, and as stated before, the breeze was unparalleled.
The condo is also nicely situated. In one direction are some restaurants, a golf course, a coffee shop, a pizza place, a cab stand, and RAMS (a minimart). In the other direction is "the strip" and South Frigate Bay Beach on the Caribbean. This is a fun place to eat and get drinks.
On the day of our arrival, we will meet you at the airport, assist in locating a cab and then settle you into Oleander. Should you wish, we can organize to stock the fridge with your essentials in readiness for your arrival.
You will be provided with full details of what’s on offer so that you may plan you holiday to suite yourself. And if you need any help in organizing tours, car hire or are just looking for recommendation for a special treat, we are only too happy to assist by sharing a wealth of local knowledge. A local rate cell phone will be at your disposal for the duration of your stay.
At only 68 square miles, St Kitts is easy to navigate and there’s a wealth of wonderful things to do and see on this magical, largely unspoilt, tropical Caribbean island beyond its beautiful coastal scenery and stunning beaches. There’s the bustling historic capital “Basseterre”; the 500 year old Brimstone Hill Fortress (an UNESCO World Heritage Site); the plantation houses; the Sugar Train Scenic Railway; the colorful underwater reefs, wrecks and sea life; world class golf; the October Sport Fishing Tournament; the June music festival; the annual Carnival; the Zip line at Wingfield Estate; the Catamaran Sailing trips; horse riding on the beach; hiking through the tropical rain forests; climbing the 3792’ Mount Liamuiga; or just watching the resident Vervet monkeys at play.
This is just a small selection, and with the sister island of Nevis to explore, just a short ferry ride away, you’ll never be short of thing to do.
But be sure to make time to just kick back and enjoy the laid back pace of life and to get to know the local Kittitians, some of the friendliest people in the West Indies. Their hospitality is the reason why so many people return year after year to this special gem of an island which has recently been ranked in a list of the 16 Best Caribbean Vacations, in a list of the 12 Best Islands in the World by US News & World Report, One of “5 Caribbean Islands to Discover Now” by MSNBC; one of the “top 12 spots that should be on your list” by Caribbean Travel + Life Magazine; Brimstone Hill Fortress was named as one of “10 Great Places to Explore the World’s Best Kept Secrets” by USA Today; St Kitts was also named a top destination by both AOL Travel and British Airways.
So looks like the secret is out…. come play in paradise!!!
