Why Lucy Ochalek chose Florida Central Gulf Coast

Boca Ciega Bay is the backyard and Redington Shores Beach is a 3 minute walk. Townhouse has 2 west and 2 east balconies with memorable water views at sunrises and sunsets. Townhouse is located 7 miles North of St Pete Beach and about 7 miles South of Clearwater Beach on Gulf Blvd. Beach is as magical as Clearwater Beach and St Pete Beach but not as commercialized.

What makes this townhome unique

Mediterranean architecture inside and outside, 4 balconies, and ideal location for beach and bay life made me choose this property over others.

Nice Stay

  • 4 of 5

Overall we enjoyed the property. It definitely needs some TLC. The master bed was not a problem, but everyone else complained about their uncomfortable beds. This property is actually a 3 BR - Not 4. There is a 4th sleeping space with a full size bed on the other side of the kitchen bar/counter. We knew that thanks to other reviews before booking, so it wasn't an issue for us. But this space is not private. We had to wash the dishes before we used them as they were very dirty right out of the cabinet. Pots and Pans had old food in them. Also had to change the sheets in one of the bedrooms because the sheets looked dirty - not dingy - dirty. So not sure if the management company is getting their moneys worth from their cleaning company. I would recommend sheers for the living room windows. The view is beautiful, but sun was very bright in the morning. We saw dolphins and manatees swimming and playing in the back bay. The bay was perfect for kayaking. We didn't have any problem crossing the 4 lane road that lead to the beach. The property had a wagon that was very handy in hauling all of our beach items - it made beach time very easy. I think a lot of the beach items that were available were left by previous renters - I know we bought and left a beach umbrella, so not all of the beach chairs were in working order, but we managed. It was nice that there were things to use at the beach without having to go out right away and buy anything. We found that Surf Style had pretty descent prices for beach items that you may need to last 7 days. That is where I would buy our beach stuff next time. Redington Shores seemed to be newer and less crowded than St Petes Beach area. The sunsets were awesome!!

Renters Beware

  • 1 of 5

We booked this property two full months prior to our spring break trip. Payments were received and we had confirmation emails about our balance being paid in full. Six days prior to our trip, we emailed Lucy to find out what the check-in instructions were. She told us that our names sounded familiar, but that she did not have a reservation for us. We found this very ironic, since we had received confirmation from her email and name, both in January and in March. She offered us another one of her properties, for $100 off the original amount of the original property. Seeing that she did not admit any fault in this situation and was extremely defensive, we opted to not take her up on the other offer. We felt that she was deceitful and did not trust that anything would work out with her. From what we could tell, it seems like she does not know how to work and sync her rental property calendars. She did, however, refund us.

Owner's Response: Two separate payments to reserve came at the same time. I was not aware that it happened . Only one payment showed up as it was processed. I have not been aware of the other payment . As soon as I became aware of it I refunded money immediately and explained what happened.

This property was very nice! In other reviews, I read about some uncomfortable mattresses, but they were fine to us, so possibly they were replaced. The location was ideal. The only thing I would recommend is for the owners to change the timing on the sprinklers. They went off in the mid to late afternoon! Not ideal for sitting outside. :) Otherwise, VERY NICE!

OK. Beautiful area, horrible beds and other issues

  • 3 of 5

We also had a problem with the reservation. We paid and were told it was cancelled. Had to make calls with both payments to make sure that everything was ok. The garage is hard to get into if you do not have small cars. We also had problems with being blocked in the driveway and having to call Lucy or knocking on doors to get out. Lucy lives next door and also uses the property for parking. The property is in a very nice area. Beach is just across the street. Lucy was helpful with blankets and supplies that were needed. The beds are VERY uncomfortable. Everyone with us complained about the mattresses. We had part of the family the first week and a different part the 2nd week and all had the same complaint about the beds. Now we are having a problem getting back our security deposit. Keep being told will be taken care of tonight but 5 calls later no return of security deposit. Also had an issue with bugs!! Daughter freaked out when she found cockroaches. Blamed on the rain...still did not want to take them home.

would never stay there again

  • 2 of 5

From the very beginning it was a hassle. We were never quite sure if our reservation was valid even though we had confirmation of it. Especially when it said our reservation was cancelled after we paid in full. We got there and had to call half hour before we arrived to get key. It was okay but she didn't answer and we had to wait longer which stunk as we had been on the road for two days. The parking was terrible and unless you have a smaller car you will not be able to get into the garage. Furnishings were okay but the mattresses were absolutely the worst. We left two days early mainly because we could not sleep on those beds one more night. So unless you bring your own mattress I would stay somewhere else. The outside of the building is impressive but inside there are a lot of issues. We saw mold on the walls where they have water problems. We saw signs of termites. (We saw their sawdust in the master bedroom). The elevator was not accessible so climbing all of the stairs got old fast. It could have been okay as we loved the location. But we will be staying somewhere else next time. Just being honest. Not even going into all of the other issues that were not up to stsndard.

Owner's Response: This review is so out of character with other reviews. It is a spite full review because I would not open residential elevator that I don't advertise, so I keep it closed. I couldn't possibly offer an elevator within already extremely low rate that this client agreed to. Service cost for residental elevators is sky high. I offered the elevator for additional fee but it was turned down. Rental agreement clearly describes to call me 30 min prior to arrival, so I can be available immediately for new guests. There was no call 30 minutes prior to arrival. I also direct guests via telephone how to get the key in case guest arrives prior to me. When I asked why they didn't call, client told me that it is no big deal because they just arrived as well. This property has firm mattresses, and I certainly will evaluate each mattress and replace it, if it is too firm. Guests complain about softer mattresses as well. No one ever complained about the 2 car garage previously. Guest left 2 nights earlier due to emergency at work and weather was horrifically rainy and windy.
