Why Tina chose Ontario

We've loved this log cottage for years and when the owners decided to sell their much loved summer home, we were blessed to buy it for our children. It's still a few years away before they will use it, so we are renting it out so that it will still be enjoyed. One year, we spent Christmas day there as an ongoing tradition and we can't imagine a more perfect setting. What a treat! A wonderful family occasion with a roaring fire, board games, laughs and hot chocolate!

What makes this cottage unique

Nature at her best, white majestic pines, clean lake/river, privacy yet only 3 miles from town, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, peace & quiet, marshmallow roast, BBQ, history, museum, art gallery, hiking trails, good & inexpensive golf. And we could go on!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much. We had a great time. This place is amazing. (written in a note)

beautiful log cottage and property exceeded our expectations

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I, who are both in our early 60s, rented this cottage from September 17 to the 24 2016. The cottage and property were marvelous. The master bedroom bed was extremely comfortable and the comforter was great. Fishing from the dock was quite good. I landed 4 decent small-mouth bass (catch and released), and a couple smaller ones and a few blue gills. I did not catch any pike or pickerel from the dock but understand such are possible out in the lake. The cottage has great internet ad the flat screen TV has Nets Flicks for evening viewing. It is only a few KMs from the tow of Mattawa, yet feels very secluded.

I ended up with a nail in my tire on Sunday and the guy at Crevier gas fixed it for a very reasonable price on a Sunday. Small town niceness for sure. We had a pickerel dinner at the Valois restaurant and it was absolutely awesome. A bit too much food for 60 year old folk, but the filets were delicious.

The rocks and concrete work around the cottage and in particular around the BBQ area are beautiful.

We will definitely be back and I have already provided a link to someone where I work p[art time as he indicated him ad his wife were very interested.

Fabulous Family Vacation Spot

  • 4 of 5

This property and its owners both exceeded my expectations. The location is very private and although there are other homes nearby, it still feels secluded.

I was looking for an affordable cottage that had a "Muskoka" feel to it, with a safe beach for children, that could accommodate additional family members as needed, remote...yet close to town amenities, with rustic features but also incorporating modern creature comforts such as Internet and Netflix for those rainy days. This property delivered all of the above, and then some.

On arrival there was a basket of goodies that was well thought out and much appreciated. Both the cottage and the sleep cabin were cleaned to a high standard and it was obvious that a lot of thought has gone in to making sure that guests would feel welcome and comfortable. The beds and bedding couldn't have been better, and were a welcome surprise after what I've experienced at other rental properties.

The owners were quickly responsive to all requests when any issue came up. I've already recommended this cottage to friends and won't hesitate to mention it to anyone else I know who may be looking for a spot to spend a quality summer vacation.

Loved every minute!

What a great weekend! This was a perfect getaway from the city. Thank you so much for accommodating us on such short notice. It was the best vacation we could have imagined. We particularly loved playing board games by the fire, cooking in the outdoor kitchen and taking sunset kayak rides. Looking forward to staying with you next spring!

Ps And thank you for the bottle of wine!!

So quiet and Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived , walked around the grounds and then went in....felt at home immediately. Welcome basket ( wine , keurig coffees, s'more kit, maps of area with things to do) was a lovely surprise. There were lots of towels, soaps, shampoo, cleaning supplies like detergent etc. Fridge was stocked with ice and basic condiments ( mustard, ketchup, relish). We especially enjoyed the 4 legged welcoming committe who said "hello" then proceeded to lie down outside to supervise our unpacking of the car. The weather was excellent except for 2 days of rain. Not many bugs this time of year! Our grandkids canoed and kayaked for the first time! It was so nice to even have a campfire all set up for us. After the first weekend, our family left and we just read, paddled and basically became lazier and lazier! We did take some nice walks each day up and down the road and it was so nice to have shopping in Mattawa only 5 minutes away to restock our supplies. We live only an hour away, but felt like we were tucked miles away and really got the Cottage Fix we were looking for. Thanks again Tina for sharing your little paradise with us.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in the cottage. First thing we noticed was the view. Amazing! The Cottage is beautifully nestled among some very large pine trees on the shore of the Mattawa River and is private. There were so many things to do in and around the cottage. We explored the area with the use of the canoe and kayaks, fished off the dock and hiked through the Samuel de Champlain Prov. Park. The cottage itself had a lot to offer. There are a few board games, books and Netflix available for those rainy days. And boy did it RAIN!

Regardless of the weather, we enjoyed our stay. The cottage was clean and had plenty of amenities. Lots of clean towels as well as beach towels. The kitchen was well equipped (even had a Keurig!). The beds were comfortable too. We even had a few laughs watching each other try to climb onto and off of the bunk beds. :-) We were very appreciative of the "Welcome Basket". It contained a binder with all the info about the cottage and the surrounding area as well as other goodies. I would definitely recommend this property.

Thank you for having us! Jen & Jo

Great vacation property

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic, relaxing time at this cottage. The amenities had, for us, the right mix of rustic and modern. The cabin had a wonderful view of the lake/river, the kayaks and canoes were great, as was swimming, fishing, and relaxing under the shade trees and sunning on the dock/raft. Had a great day trip to Eau Claire Gorge too (not to be missed). Highly recommended.
