About Greg and Carol Jackson

Carol and Greg are native Houstonians who moved to Austin in 1996, although Greg worked as a musician and Carol attended UT in Austin in the 70's. Greg has returned to being a full time musician and Carol now practices acupuncture in our home and also in a clinic.

Please let us know if you are interested in an Acupuncture Treatment, Massage, or Herbal Consultation.

Greg and Carol Jackson purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Greg and Carol Jackson chose Austin

We had lived out in the Hill Country and decided that we wanted to live in town when Carol started her acupuncture practice. We fell in love with the Hyde Park neighborhood and neighbors, as well as our 100+ year old Victorian home. Greg is an accomplished builder and carpenter, so the wonderful old house offers many remodeling project opportunities - we're not quite finished!

What makes this apartment unique

We love living here in the historic Hyde Park neighborhood where we actually know and visit with our neighbors. This is a place where everyone gets out for walks, jogs, and bike rides and everyone takes the time to get to know one another. We know our guests will experience this first hand as they walk to one of the nearby restaurants or other closeby attractions

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Greg & Carol,

Thank you so much for letting us stay at your lovely apartment. The accomodations were wonderful and the Austin literature and guide books were incredibly helpful! The binder you made had easy to follow instructions and we made heavy use of your recommendations.

The apartment had everything we needed....Thanks again for everything!!

Top marks for a clean, quiet, and comfortable place from which to explore Austin Texas

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Hyde Park Hideaway during the last weekend in January and it really exceeded our expectations.

First off, the location is terrific as it puts you into the downtown in less than 15 minutes by car. Halfway between the two major north-south freeways gives you lots of choices if there is traffic on one or the other. The neighborhood is really charming and safe; there are lots of period bungalows and well-maintained older houses that make it feel like a very solid community. There is plenty of really good choices for groceries nearby.

Second, the apartment itself is really well designed and beautifully executed. It is about 550 sq. ft. but seems much larger. We especially liked how much room there is in the kitchen as we made a batch of spaghetti sauce for our daughter and there was plenty of room for both of us. We really loved the beautiful tile work in the kitchen and the bathroom.

Finally, Greg and Carol are really terrific hosts. They communicate well and respond well to any issue that arrises. It is obvious they care about their guests and they made our stay really pleasant.

We look forward to going back to visit again!

The perfect place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The Hyde Park Hideaway is a GEM!!! (The pictures really don't do it justice.) Clean, quiet and perfectly appointed - I have nothing bad to say about this place!!!

I absolutely fell in love with the neighborhood - walkable restaurants and coffee shops...and an easy drive to all points of interest.

Our fourth stay here.

Our fourth stay here--Greg and Carol can teach the master class for VRBO. We consider it our home away from home.

Located in central austin, just north of the university of texas campus, the hyde park historic district is the oldest planned community in austin, having been established in the 1890's.

Consisting of a mix of victorian and bungalow style homes, hyde park is a quiet and peaceful oasis in the middle of everything austin has to offer.

Within a short walking distance are great restaurants, a post office, a grocery store, an awesome bakery, a cheese specialty shop, an excellent wine bar, a live theatre, and the elizabet ney museum.

Within a short drive are all of austin's main attractions, including the ut campus, zilker park, barton springs, deep eddy, mount bonnell, lake austin, lady bird lake/jogging trail, south congress, the state capital building, and downtown/6th street, to name a few.
