Romantic Solar Adobe Artist’s & Weaver's Studio on 51 forested acres located in Ojo Caliente, completed in 2008. Designed by an Award winning Santa Fe Owner/Architect, this home has 1,200 interior s.f. with two 300 s.f. porches, featuring Adobe exterior walls, interior and exterior adobe plaster, polished Flagstone countertops, recycled glass wall tile, polished tan concrete floors and metal roofing. Also incorporated into the design are “Green Building” rainwater catchment and grey-water irrigation systems. This beautiful house is located on the high desert plateaus of northern New Mexico at a 6,700 ft. elevation. The high desert temperature extremes were taken advantage of with the use of a traditional adobe construction and a passive solar design, which keeps the house cool in summer and warm in winter. The use of traditional mud plaster helps blend the building into the surrounding high desert landscape. The building has a large open studio and sleeping space, with full Kitchen, bath and closet.

We love this area of New Mexico, the seasons are splendid and the proximity to the Hot Springs and the National Forest keep us both happy.
You will love the views from this house! It is very cozy in winter and a great spot in the summer with convenient trips possible to the Santa Fe and Taos areas.
I came with two girlfriends for a week to explore the area, soak in the springs, hike and hang out. John and Polly's house was perfect - a great space to be in just to enjoy the light, view, birds, space and good company. And, it was a great location for hikes, a drive to taos, a day in santa fe, a visit to georgia o'keefe's house and much more. The house is perfect for open-living and enjoying both the indoors and outdoors. It had all that we needed for a comfortable cozy home-base. I'd love to see it in all weather! I'm very glad to know of it and would definitely recommend it and come back myself.
I have had the pleasure of visiting the Ojo Caliente/Abiquiu area a few times, but on this trip my daughter (who is a teacher and single parent) and I wanted to enjoy some R&R, soak in the Springs, and hike. The Adobe fit the bill and provided a quiet respite in the mornings and evenings. We enjoyed the well-appointed studio, the restful flute music CD provided, and the views. We ate breakfast each morning on the patio as we watched birds and enjoyed the serenity. Each day we looked forward to returning to this quiet oasis adjacent to the national forest. I would highly recommend John and Polly's little slice of heaven to other mothers and daughters, couples or friends. All in all, it was an idyllic experience that I would love to repeat! Thanks to the gracious owners who found a necklace I left and are returning it to me! Thank you for excellent hospitality!
My wife and I visit northern New Mexico once or twice a year and have stayed at inns and lodges in Taos, Santa Fe and several points between. We'd been wanting to have a "high-desert-solitude" experience and because we love the hot springs at Ojo Caliente we found John's and Polly's studio to be quite a "sweet spot." The studio is spacious and airy and presents dramatic views that change with the day's light. It's also well-equipped, and we made use of both the indoor wood stove and the outdoor grill on two of our four nights there (the other two we had dinner in the wine bar at the hot springs, a jewel). With our two dogs we hiked the immediate environs as well the Vista Verde trail above the Rio Grande gorge. At night the desert sky revealed stars we'd never seen before. And we spent plenty of time on the patio with the dogs – normally excitable types who, like us, enjoyed just lying quietly in the sun, taking it all in. We'll be back.
We just spent 4 days on a working retreat at the Studio in Ojo Caliente, inspired by the peace and quiet, magnificent views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, sun and beauty inside and outside of the adobe walls. The studio is a perfect get-away if you are looking for peace, comfort, ease. The kitchen is very well stocked, everything is simple, clean and convenient, creating the space for relaxing, creating, reflecting, contemplating, insight, restoration. The excellent Hot Springs resort is a short drive from the property and we had a truly outstanding dinner at the resort restaurant. We also walked out along one of the several long dirt roads, taking in the 360% views and magnitude of the horizons of northern NM. The Studio is an excellent and convenient, place from which to explore both the near by high desert plateau and comforting hot springs as well as to ski at the Taos Ski Valley, a short hour's drive from the property. I highly recommend the property, the location and the owners. Enjoy!
My husband and I needed a place away from the city we live in and this was the perfect place. It was so quiet with beautiful landscapes, we were sad when we had to leave. The owners John and Polly had a nice note waiting for us and were always available if we had any questions. The house was perfect with its open floor plan, two warm beds, huge windows and welcoming atmosphere. As we expected the house was clean and orderly with all of our needs met. No cell, TV or internet was an added bonus to get away from it all. We are definitely coming back here.
We've been to Ojo Caliente before, but wanted a place away from the bustle of the resort. This property fit the bill perfectly. Close enough to leave the springs for a quick trip back for food and refreshments before heading to the springs again. Also, not far from Bandelier National Monument for some great hiking. We loved the views, the light, the kitchen, the porches, and the beds. We plan on returning!
5 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs Resort, Medical Clinic, Restaurants, Post Office, General Store and Gas Stations. Walk out the front door to the surrounding Carson National Forest. Enjoy flyfishing on the nearby Rio Vallecitos or Rio Grande.
