About this property

Bowdoin College - Historic Brunswick - Gateway to Midcoast Maine

Spacious apartment available for rent on upper level of historic 1879 home. We are located in one of Brunswick’s most desirable neighborhoods: two blocks from the center of town, a 10 minute walk from Bowdoin campus, a 20 minute walk to the riverfront and a short drive to several ocean access points. Our renovated apartment features vaulted ceilings in the living room, one large bedroom, one smaller bedroom/study, a loft, full bathroom and washer/dryer off the kitchen. The rental is fully equipped with furniture, linens, kitchenware and WiFi.

In the heart of historic downtown Brunswick, we are a short walk to Maine Street with more than 48 stores and restaurants. In the summer, the town “Green” provides evening Music in the Park performances, twice-weekly Farmers’ Markets, Artwalk and 'Taste of Brunswick.' Bowdoin College offers its well-known Art Museum and each summer hosts an International Music Festival, as well as the famous Maine State Music Theater. Just a few miles’ drive will take you to the many picnic coves and sandy beaches in Harpswell, Bailey Island, Orr’s Island, Bath and Freeport. Brunswick is considered the gateway to Mid-Coast Maine; it is a perfect starting point for many short day trips to lighthouses and other coastal attractions like Lands End, Cundy's Harbor, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta, Georgetown Island, and Pemaquid....

We love it here and will happily share the secret places most people drive by on their way to overcrowded and oversold locations. We look forward to introducing guests to our beautiful area and hope they will return summer after summer. Our historic neighborhood is a tight knit community filled with professors, actors, artists, chefs and writers. You will love it here.

Please note that there is a set of stairs up to the apartment and a set of stairs up to the 3rd floor master bedroom. So if you have a difficult time with stairs this may not be the best apartment for you. It is on the two upper levels of an 1879 historic home as mentioned above.

Great location in vibrant Maine town
Brunswick is a neat town with great food and access to ocean views and hiking. Our host was kind and easy to connect with when needed. The rental is spacious. The stairs are steep, but if mobility is not a concern for you, consider this rental.

Wonderful Getaway
Absolutely loved our stay. Even though we were there during a snow storm and wasn't able to get out much to enjoy Brunswick, we were totally content enjoying the comfort in the apartment. It was so cozy we did not want to leave! Definitely will stay again.

About the host

Host profile image
Originally from California we have taken an educational tour of the country for my wife to receive her Masters from Tufts and PhD from Duke and now she is currently a professor at Bowdoin College. I am a CPA working in Brunswick. Though we will never be seen as real 'Mainers,' we have adopted Maine as our favorite state. We want to help those not from here to experience Maine as if you had a family member or friend living here.

Why they chose this property

We bought our historic 1879 home on School Street to be within walking distance of Bowdoin College and all that downtown Brunswick has to offer. School Street is a special neighborhood of professors, artists and writers that we fell in love with. It has beautiful brick sidewalks and neighbors that pride themselves on their gardens. We wanted to have an apartment that we could rent out to other visiting faculty or international musicians traveling to the Bowdoin International Music Festival. We would like to open up our apartment to Summer guests to enjoy Maine the way we do.

What makes this property unique

We love our proximity to all the shops and restaurants on Maine Street. In the morning, you can enjoy Wild Oats bakery at the end of our street for some yummy baked goods or a cappuccino, and in the evening take in a movie at the one- screen Evening Star Theater in the quaint down-town 'mall'. We have a beautiful yard where we grow our own blueberries, blackberries and roses. I love the tree lined street of Park Row with the huge Captain Houses. I love that we are so close to the ocean and many amazing coves and harbors and yet still in the center of a college town that is thriving with shops, restaurants and things to do and see. Join in on some of our neighborhood events or let us point you in the right direction for an adventure off the beaten path.
