Comfy, Quaint and Nice Location!

  • 5 of 5

You never know what you might get when you book a vacation house online. Despite the always pristine pictures and flowery descriptions with these types of things, sometimes you are disappointed with the results. This was certainly not the case with this historic tudor cottage. Our family of four (My wife, two young boys and me) spent three days and two nights at this delightful cottage at Bluebird Beach in Vermilion. Dan met us when we checked in and showed us the many amenities. They included a full furnished kitchen, several beds, towels and linens and little touches of home on the lake. (Make sure you look for the sculpture of an impish gnome's face in the ceiling corner above the interior fireplace!) The bathroom and shower are a new addition and a pleasant surprise with the multi-jet hot tub! We also loved the outdoor fireplace porch and took full advantage of the firewood (even though it was a warm night). We also made use of the outdoor grill and easily served a steak dinner with fresh corn on the cob from a local vendor.

The beach is only a 3-minute walk from the cottage. Not a huge amount of room to spread out, but ample for relaxing by the water. (My son loved the flattened out rocks under the sand and spent a lot of time skipping stones!). All-in-all, a quiet neighborhood and a nice location to take in all of the northwest shore of Lake Erie's many destinations.

We are a little reluctant to give such a great review, because it would be nice to keep this a "best kept" secret, but we also thought that we should share our experience with those who are looking for the perfect "old school" Lake Erie experience!

Thanks again to Dan, who was a gracious host who was always on call to answer a question or let us know where things were!

Best retreat ever!

  • 5 of 5

The accommodations were truly fantastic! The cottage was clean and inviting. We would highly recommend this vacation property to anyone looking for a summer getaway. The proprietors were easy to work with and willing to make our time most enjoyable. However, one of the owners was a little cranky at times.

Second stay, great time!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay here and we thoroughly enjoyed it just as much as the first time. The cottage is cozy, comfortable and the perfect distance from downtown Vermilion, wineries, golf, etc. As long as it's available, we will definitely plan on future stays!

Girls weekend

  • 5 of 5

I had been looking to rent this house for awhile now, just from the pictures alone I knew I'd love it.

My cousin and I booked it for a fun girls weekend.

Dan was quick to reply to my emails, and really nice.

When we pulled into the driveway, I knew I made the right decision.

The house has so much charm and character, I feel in love immediately. I told Dan that I'd buy the place from him LOL

Everything is really clean. You don't need to bring anything except your clothes and food.

We loved the outside area by the fireplace. Sat and had wine and cheese, the next morning had our coffee out there, built a fire our last night and stayed out there for hours.

It's a really quiet neighborhood, except for the train. But we got used to it.

I'm hoping to make a return trip again this year. And planning to make it a yearly trip there with my cousin as well.

Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the cottage was wonderful, we spent our 15 year anniversary here. The cottage was clean, cozy, plenty of games, books and cards! The jacuzzi tub was a plus at the end of the day to relax! Dan had firewood ready for the outside fireplace that we got to enjoy on a snowy evening. This cottage is close to downtown with a lot of Mom and Pops restaurants and shops. We are looking forward to coming back with our children during the summer! Dan was very helpful with recommendations and met us when we arrived, he made us feel comfortable right from the start! Thank you for a wonderful stay here in Vermilion!
