An exquisite home, fully furnished with everything you will ever need to enjoy your stay. Built originally by my grandmother's brother in 1910, we fully restored this lovely home in 2006. A quiet restful home, with close walking access to the ferries to downtown and walking access to the beach. We now live on our farm north of Auckland and we make our sailor's retreat available for special guests. We prefer older couples and do not cater for young children. We travel between Auckland and San Diego, where we have another vacation home at South Mission Beach. Contact us for further information. Please note we do not rent for longer than three months.
My husband and I met when he sailed into Auckland on the 1985 Whitbread Around the World Yacht Race. He then came back again in 1989 in the next Whitbread, but it took him many years to return to make this our home in New Zealand. I spent many years in San Diego with the America's Cup Women's Team in 1995, and now we have retired to our farm about an hour north of Auckland, so our beautiful city home can be made available for special guests. you can see more information about us by looking up - the flying horse ranch in New Zealand. Alison Hamilton Fellman purchased this villa in 1983
Literally walking distance from the CBD, via the Ferry from Devonport/ Stanley Bay. There aren't many people who can say their home has been in the family for 102 years, but this one has. Original furniture and fittings, but with modernised kitchen(s) and bathroom(s). There is also a separate self contained one bedroom, which is currently unavailable.
Enjoy the ambience of a true Edwardian Villa in a quiet peaceful seaside neighbourhood. Large enclosed sunporch faces north giving all day sun during the winter. Two fireplaces, and a real cook's kitchen made from marble we imported from Italy, as we were living there in 2003. Bedrooms have blackout curtains, so if you have jet lag you can sleep as long as you need to … the sun will beam in on the other side of the house where the kitchen, bathroom, dining room, etc. are. Internet, Sky TV, heating, electric blankets - everything you could wish for.
We stayed at 'Waterview' over Christmas and New Year 2012/3 during a 2 month visit to New Zealand from the U.K., visiting our son in Auckland. This was a very lucky find for us as a home from home, full of charm and character, in a peaceful tree lined road within 10 minutes walking distance of Devonport town centre, the ferry port over to the City, and Stanley Bay where we swam every morning.10 minutes in the car easily extends the choice of beaches to include Cheltenham Beach and Takapuna. The house had everything we could wish for and and the owners were so friendly and helpful. We loved it there so much that after our travels in the South Island we came back to 'Waterview' for another 10 days before very reluctantly flying home.We hope to return to New Zealand before too long, and would definately plan to book 'Waterview' again.
We actually stayed here on two occasions. The first was in Sept/13 to Dec/13 & the second time was in Jan/14 to March/14 & we enjoyed our stay on both occasions. The house is very comfortable & is very convenient for walking into town & also for the ferry terminal for the ferry over to Auckland. The house has 2 good sized bedrooms & a smaller one, a very modern & good sized bathroom with separate shower, a good sized lounge with TV & fireplace & a smaller open plan lounge area again with fireplace. It was very nice to be able to light a fire on the cooler nights. The kitchen is very modern & has all the utensils & has a great view when you are cooking in there. Next to the kitchen is a good sized dining area & in front of the dining room & kitchen is a lovely balcony which is a lovely place to sit as it gets the sun all day. There are numerous patio doors which all open onto the balcony from the kitchen & dining room. The views are lovely from the balcony over fields & water. The owners were very nice & if there was a problem they were very quick to sort it out.
The owner's were really good to deal with, as our other rental was overbooked at the last minute and we found this villa, which was much nicer than our original rental, and cheaper! The house is like walking into television set for an old english tv drama... really lovely furniture and layout, with views over the bay and sun pouring into the sunporch. We were taken with the kitchen as we both love to cook, and the Italian marble sink was something we had never seen before. Everything worked as advertised and we also rented the apartment downstairs when my wife's mother came to join us for a week. The owner's were helpful on everything we asked and even helped find us a cheap rental car. We would highly recommend this for anyone wanting to enjoy the sights of Auckland from the nice suburb of Devonport. The owners also have a bed and breakfast out at their ranch north of Auckland and we visited out there and played golf at the famous South Head Golf Club. The ranch has horses and airplanes and was a fantastic outing for all of us. We definitely plan to visit again.
What a surprise. My husband and I had to travel to Auckland to attend a family funeral. After a few days it was a bit crowded at my sister's place, so they found us this home nearby to stay in. At such a short notice, the owner was helpful and sympathetic to our situation and did everything possible to make our stay pleasant. The house is gorgeous, sunny, peaceful, and all the beds were comfortable and the kitchen and dining area simply perfect. We were within walking distance of the swimming beach at Stanley Bay, and we enjoyed the restaurants of Devonport in the evenings. We were also able to have our family over for dinners to take the stress off my sister at having everyone in town from overseas for the funeral. At one point we had an extra couple arrive and i asked if we could also rent the apartment downstairs. It is perfect too, and has an ensuite bathroom and sauna that we all enjoyed. I would highly recommend this for a lovely stay in Auckland
