Not worth the expense and far from most attractions
Pros: Large, clean, high-end finishes, no smell, quiet exclusive location, view of water, Silver Thatch staff friendly.
Cons: The house comes with almost nothing. If someone had spent even ten percent of a single night's cost on supplies, we would have been happy. But we felt jerked around.
On the fridge was a list of house supplies for our week: two rolls of toilet paper per couple, one roll of paper towels, six trash bags, a few other things... really pinching pennies.
Silver Thatch is supposed to be a concierge service, but they never did actually do any concierge work. We wanted to rent a couple of kayaks, and that never happened.
It's a long drive to get to most activities.
For what we were paying, we expected a nice, well-appointed house. Instead, we got this:
Nasty rusted dryer lint screen that didn't fit into dryer. No place in laundry room to hang or fold. No laundry detergent, although the check-out list includes running a load of towels.
In our bath, tiny amounts of shampoo/rinse, one bar of soap, no liquid hand wash. One hair dryer we all shared. Dim lighting.
No vacation toys. No bikes, fins, kayaks, sailboards for our use.
Shoddy flea-market furniture. Veneer on dining table broken and peeling, and our bedroom had only one wobbly little nightstand with no drawer. Handful of hangers. Cheap low-end bedding.
Few dishes. Handful of mismatched wine glasses. We kept running out of coffee cups. Coffee carafe broken.
I wish you would have contacted us while you were on the island instead of venting on a nice home after the fact. We can not fix what we do not know about. It is even in your rental agreement that you contact the local manager AND the rental agency with any issues. There are house issues the local manager handles, and there are service issues which we handle. You never contacted us.
Silver Thatch is NOT a concierge service. Nowhere on out listing is the word "concierge" used. Our three fulltime guest services team is there to help guests when they call - which you did not do.
We were not contacted about a possible kayak rental. You were provided contact at time of rental and upon arrival.
It also sounds like you did not check-in at our Welcome Center to pick up snorkel gear, beach toys, cooler, bluetooth speaker, discount card, beach chairs or any other complimentary items we offer.
Most of your complaints were correctable had you taken the time to reach out to us, in addition to the local manager. I am sorry you chose to keep them to yourself during your stay.
Beautiful house. Did not have beach entrance or soft sand(hard rock)as other surrounding houses did.
The house was lovely on the inside and when we had an AC issue they came quickly to fix it. I would not choose this particular house again because it did not have a beach entrance to go in the water and it was all hard rocks surrounding the house. Most of the other properties brought in soft white sand in the back of the house and they had beach entrances to the water. That is why I gave it a four star.
Just as beautiful as advertised.
Where this beautiful home was nestled was perfect for the relaxing vacation we were looking for. Beautiful Beaches, Water Sports and Excursions were close by for us to enjoy. Thank you to the kind owners for offering to share their gorgeous home on VRBO.
Great Thanksgiving Stay at Rum Point
Had a wonderful time at Rum Point. If you like quiet with a beautiful beach, this is the place to go. The house was great. Awesome Kitchen. We had a few issues but the management & staff were awesome !!!! They were "very responsive and professional".
We are definitely coming back.

The entire island is only 22 miles wide from west to east, so you are never too far from anywhere on Grand Cayman. Casuarina Cove offers calm serene water for docking a rental boat, permitting charter captain pick-up, or just safe shallow water for little children to swim. The beach behind the house is flat white barefoot sand and has a nice view of the North Sound sunsets and 7 Mile Beach. There is usually little breeze here to speak of. Casuarina Cove is very private at the end of a cul-de-sac and therefore doesn't see many tourists or neighbors walking the beach.
The big draw to this area is the proximity to the Rum Point Club, a public beach club that offers a fantastic barefoot beach, many watersports, a restaurant bar and grill, a gift shop and pick-up beach volleyball games. Also near Rum Point is the Kaibo Yacht Club restaurant, bar and marina. Overall, the area is just a great neighborhood dotted with million-dollar oceanfront villas.
Lastly, about 20 minutes east are 2 large resorts (Morritts and The Reef) that offer manicured beaches as well as restaurants, a grocery store, liquor store, gift shops, a Subway sandwich shop, and a cafe/pastry shop. These two resorts also offer scuba, snorkel trips, jet skis, windsurfers, kiteboarding, ocean front pools and bar service. Tortuga Divers and White Sand Water Sports offer snorkeling tours, paddle boards, jet skis, etc.
