About owner/property manager

Broker/Owner of Adams Real Estate/Wife, Kim owns Salon 241

owner/property manager purchased this house in 2013

Why owner/property manager chose Downeast and Acadia

This property has been in my wife's family since 1964. It has been a place where her family vacationed during the summers and enjoyed the local wildlife and seashore. Great for bird watching. Close to Schoodic National Park. And a short drive to Bar Harbor or take the Winter Harbor Ferry.

What makes this house unique

629' water frontage on Grand Marsh Bay! With all the emenities of home. Cool ocean breezes and an abundance of wildlife. Its just a beautiful spot. The main level of the house is on the second floor with panoramic views of the water just feet away from the deck. Decorated with a nautical theme throught the home. A great kitchen and combined living , dining area for entertaining the family. Fourteen foot ceilings with large windows on all sides.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Good morning, Phil.

Wanted to give you a heads up that the ***** family is heading out this morning, a day ahead of schedule. We had an absolutely wonderful time and the consensus is that no one wants to leave. But we’re going to visit Portland and shorten the drive in to Maryland on Saturday.

It’s hard to say how much each of us enjoyed the house over the past two weeks. We visited some wonderful places during the time, but our time relaxing, cooking and talking at the house is indeed memorable.

Also, because my phone did not have reception, I used the House phone for a few work calls and am leaving you cash to cover the cost of long-distance.

And am sorry to say we missed the time for returnables drop-off in Gouldsboro, so there are two additional bags in the garage. Very sorry to put you out.

Lastly, thank you to you and Kim. We are grateful to find such an incredible place.

Perfect setting, location, ammenities

  • 5 of 5

Our family, myself, my husband, mother in-law, and two sons (age 7 and 2) rented this home for our first trip to Maine. The boys used the bedroom downstairs which was perfect for their own area for toys and general play area. The tv is a SMART tv with access to apps such as Amazon Prime tv and Netflix (you need your personal log in info) which was perfect for when they woke up early.

The winds kept the tide out for most of the day the first couple days but once we figured out the timing we were able to kayak. Being in the cul-de-sac of the bay was great and allowed our 7 y/o to kayak (tethered to our kayak) by himself. After a rainy morning the water level seemed to increase and allowed for kayaking at most times of the day, a sunset kayak was awesome. The fact the house comes equipped with all needed gear is an amazing asset.

We traveled to Acadia three times during the week. It took about 45 mins- 1 hour with traffic to get there, but a very easy drive. A recommended day is to park at Hull Cove Visitor Center, take the shuttle to Sand Beach, and return. Hop in the car for a very short drive (10 mins) to have a late lunch, early dinner at Sweet Pea's. Farm to plate wood fired pizza and sandwiches were delicious. As was the wine - it is also a winery. Follow that with a sunset trip (end of August we arrived around 6:15- PERFECT!) to Cadellac Mountain. Tip: everyone will travel to the summit which is a great view of Bar Harbor, all of Acadia, but for a perfect sunset view, go to the west side of the mountain (as you travel up or back down).

We also took the ferry from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor and back. We spent the whole day in Bar Harbor strolling the shops, lunch, ice cream, hanging out at the park. Be prepared to get to the ferry early as it does get crowded (we did the first out, last back).

We also took advantage of being only 10 minutes from the Schoodic area of Acadia. A must! The rocky ledges... We heard more "thunder" from this area than at the famed Thunder Hole.

Back to the house: the fire pit allowed us to make s'mores, cuddle under blankets, and relax our day away. Tip: bug spray (the mosquitoes are relentless) which we are used to.

Although, we did not meet in person, it was very easy to communicate with the owner, Phil.

BTW- the house has wifi which came in handy since cell signals (we have Sprint) were scarce.

I would recommend this house to anyone, whether a family or just a couple.

Wonderful family vacation to discover Acadia Park and all the Bays of Maine have to offer

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house. It is a newer property and provides all the amenities of home. We had two small families with one childe each. The layout was perfect for two couples upstairs and the two young girls with their basement bedroom, t.v. room and own bathroom downstairs. This is good location if you want to drive into the park for a couple days of hiking or shopping and eating in Bar Harbor, but would also like to retreat back to your homestay and foggy cool mornings enjoying coffee on the deck or a serene dusk roasting marshmallows around the stone fire pit. We were able to kayak right from the backyard when the water came in at high tide as well. The house is stocked with all the supplies for a lobster, shrimp and clam bake, in addition to a barbecue for meals you just want to grill outside. We definitely recommend this as a great property.

You will not be disappointed!

This is a great peaceful secluded setting away from it all yet close to a neat little town of Winter Harbor and the "other" Acadia less crowded with great hiking and beautiful scenery. The owners are very accommodating. Very clean and well kept.

Great place for a quiet stay

  • 5 of 5

Close to so many things to see and do. Three adult couples and we ran out of time before we ran out of stuff to see and places to visit. One week wasn't enough in this area.

Everything in the house was first rate and we lacked for nothing. Phil and Kim made sure everything was provided. How often do you arrive at a place and find beer and a bottle of Baileys in the fridge waiting for you? No complaints, no suggestions for improvements, this place was sweet. Watching the tide come in and go out from the deck never got old.

Sample the local flavors and shops, they have everything you need. The laid back pace of the area was a welcome change. We have only good memories.

Thanks for the experience.

Best Maine-stay yet

  • 5 of 5

All the positive things said about Phil and Kim's place are true - and then some! They are responsive, intelligent hosts that really thought this through. We've just had THE BEST Maine vacation ever, and we've been going there for four years now. We've always stayed in nice places, but this place just tops them all. The house itself is so comfortable and attractive - there is a sophisticated feel throughout all the trimmings and overall build, yet you are in a tranquil, camp-like area. There's nothing camp-like about this house though! The furnishings were something i would fill my own home with. The kitchen is well-equipped; the appliances are top notch. We enjoyed cooking in more than we liked going out, although we did check out all the local spots. Cooking lobsters there is a breeze because of the lower deck propane cook stove setup. No mess or smell in the kitchen for those meals! The beds are all very comfortable, and having 3 NICE bathrooms is amazing! We were two couples sharing this place. My sister is an artist and stayed at the house a great deal of the time to paint because the of views from the front deck. Even the indoor areas have phenomenal views. My husband, brother-in-law, and myself hiked a lot in the area, but always came back to this house for a great evening. We had fires in the fire pit almost every night, and the guys took their turns at splitting the wood Phil provides. Kayaking on the bay was a blast, but you really should be experienced, as winds can come up rapidly and make for rough waters.

If you're into hiking, we did several that you may enjoy. Tunk Mt. and Hidden Ponds, Caribou Trail/Black Mt., Salt Marsh Trail, & Schoodic to name a few. The photography ops abound in this entire area . . . i got lots of great shots that will become wall art!

Our trip was punctuated by an incredible off-shore boat ride to Machias Seal Island. Captain Patterson (Bold Coast Charters) runs the only US operation to this research facility that studies puffins, terns, razor bills and eiders. Even if you're not a bird lover, this place is really interesting. You get your own blind to take pics from, and the birds are right there - before you very eyes. The nearby islands were also interesting and dotted with seals sunning themselves. Truly a life experience to take in.

All in all, this is just THE best place we've ever stayed. It puts you close to so much nature yet pampers you at the same time.
