The house was gorgeous. Stunning vaulted ceilings, lots of room for all of our family. Maybe not the best house for a winter rental. The front door was letting snow in & a lot of the windows were vey drafty (character of an old house). A lot of lights were out & neither of the blow dryers worked. We were there for a long weekend, to bring my dad for one last family vacation (terminal brain tumor). Unfortunately, there were several snow storms the weekend we decided to come, but we were reassured that snow removal and sand being put down wouldn't be an issue. We arrived to the house being a sheet of ice at the bottom of the driveway, several family members fell. Luckily neither of the little ones, or my dad. After being dumped on by about a foot of snow, we had to dig the cars out at 10pm in case of an emergency. Nobody had come to plow. I texted, emailed and called the property managers. It wasn't until I called several times in a row (because my toddler drew on a chair) that someone answered.
The house is beautiful, the views are breathtaking. We would never be able to afford it in the summer & I don't foresee us returning there in the winter.
Thank you for your review and hope that regardless of the back to back blizzards during your stay you had a memorable time with your father, and you'll treasure the memories for years to come.
We enjoyed having you and were honored to have had your family as guests. We do appreciate your honesty regarding the crayon markings on the chair and for making us aware of the chandelier in the front stairway. That light has given us trouble in the past, but were under the impression it was fixed.
It's hard to predict the weather in Maine, unfortunately we did get quite a bit of snow the Thursday you arrived. Maine had a couple of tough weeks with snow fall and your stay happened to fall in between two Nor'easters, it certainly wasn't what we had wished for your stay.
We were assured by the plow company that they would be on top of the snow removal and would sand/salt the drive prior to and during your stay, we will certainly look into it.
We provide our office hours along with a cell phone/emergency number on our voice mail that you can call and/or text if you need us while the office is closed. Our office number is a landline and will not accept text messages.
It's unfortunate that you had to leave the day prior to your scheduled departure date due to our next blizzard on Sunday, but certainly understand wanting to get home before the storm. We do hope that you have received the refund you requested for the last night of your stay?
Thoughts and prayers to you and family during this difficult time. May God bless you and your family.
Goose Rocks Beach is a very quiet section of Kennebunkport, located on the outskirts away from town. Beautiful, Bermuda type three-mile long beach with views of islands and offering small tidal pools for all to explore and enjoy.
A part of the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge protects the area and habitat. Two tidal rivers bordering the each side of the beach provide pleasant views and spectacular bird watching. A true family atmosphere!
Goose Rocks offers a General Store, two inns, with a restaurant and pub and our office. Nothing else commercial can be found in the area, but we are just a few miles from area restaurants and grocery stores.
Five miles from Goose Rocks is Dock Square, the center of Kennebunkport. You’ll find art galleries, small clothing and gift shops, fine and leisurely dining, ice cream parlors, boat excursions, harbor views and historic homes. We also have three golf courses nearby and tennis courts at the Goose Rocks Beach Community House. In nearby towns you’ll find antique shops and amusement parks
